    Great video, but I would take out all the coolant because the old one could contaminate the new one and mess up your gaskets or degrade the cooling effect

      As long as you change your coolant following this method every 2-3 years, you can do this indefinitely with no degradation of cooling system efficiency or structure. If you only change coolant once every 10 years, then you shouldn't be doing that, and should also be draining the block (and probably flushing at that point, too).

    I recently purchased a used 2008 Suzuki Grand Vitara (just like yours), and do not have any good maintenance records from the prior owner. I believe he mainly just did oil changes etc during the 90,000 miles prior to my purchase. I do not know what coolant might be in the vehicle currently, so how to proceed? I believe the vehicle spec shows it contains 8.6 quarts or just over 2 Gallons. In fear of mixing coolants, is it best to have my mechanic remove all/most of the existing coolant, and then start with new/fresh coolant? Do you recommend this green ethylene glycol from O'Reilly .... I stopped by this store today and they were mentioning it might be better to use an Asian blue coolant?

      If you want to start off fresh, you should probably drain the radiator as well as the block (not sure where the block drain is on these engines), followed by a full refill with all new coolant. At that mileage, if it's original, I'd want it all gone.
      The original coolant was green in my GV - I believe that Suzuki may have, in the partnership with GM, used the same green coolant used in many GM vehicles. Just conjecture.
      Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

    Hello, thank you for the video. Please advise on my trouble. It seems I have air trapped in the system which shows itself up as follows: engine fully warmed, car on park (or stopped at the traffic light), if I turn on the heater it blows hot then quickly becomes completely cold; I ramp some RPMs (or start driving) it becomes warm again and I can hear bubble sounds sometimes.

      There is no one way to fix cavitation. The best thing you can try is to park on a slope and rev the engine a bit to try to decavitate the system. There may be a procedure in the Suzuki FSM, but I do not know it personally. Thanks for watching!

    Have you replaced the windshield washer pump in your car?. I have one GV and the front windshield washer pump stop working... How's the easiest way to change it? Thanks..

      No, though when I had the vehicle I did have issues with the windshield washing system in general. Not a great design from what I've gathered. Thanks for watching!

    suzuki coolant is not available where i live
    can i use red toyota coolant on my grand vitara after flushing out all of the old coolant from the engine block and heater?
    the same stuff u showed at the start of ur video

      I'd recommend figuring out what brands of coolant are sold where you live and then going to those brands' websites to see what they spec out for your GV. I can't guarantee that Toyota red will be compatible with all of the different metals and polymers in the GV cooling system. Thanks for watching!

    I need to change the coolant in my 2012 Suzuki SX4 but in my country they do not sell the genuine blue Suzuki coolant. Can I use a different brand of blue coolant? Thanks

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Best thing you can do is check compatibility on the coolant manufacturers' websites to find one that is listed as OK with your Suzuki, then flush the entire system and refill with all new coolant. Thanks for watching!

    Hi, I will like to know if I can use (green) Prestone Extended Life All Makes All Models Antifreeze/Coolant concentrate and dilute it at home with filtered water or should I use the 50/50.. Its an 2006 aero and I dont think they former owner never did the coolant flush. please advise...

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That coolant should be fine to use, and whether you use the concentrate (diluted down with water) or the pre-mixed version doesn't matter, though concentrate is more cost effective. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

      The fuel filter is not due for replacement on my truck, but when it is, I will make a video on it. You can check out suzuki-forums.com to see if there is a tutorial there. Thanks for watching!

    hi, what about another gallon which stays in engine block?

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Krzysztof Orzechowski Because we do a radiator drain and fill so often, enough fresh fluid is mixed with what was left in the block to have no ill effects. Draining the block is quite a pain on many vehicles due to the drain location or seized plugs, and considering I’ve been doing it this way for 40+ years with no ill effects on any of my vehicles I’d consider it a fairly safe practice. Thanks for watching!

      go to a shop that has a very simple machine, some are called power purge. They hook a hose to your radiator, a hose to engine block, and its able to replace 100% of the old coolant.

    The best coolant for these engines or newer is G12 Motul Optimal or equivalent. Plain old type green cooland is a no no !!!!!!!
