My family owns a Ranch out in a valley near us, it’s been my dream to have a ranch someday. I am getting chickens and pigs this spring, along with starting my garden up again, I am so frickin happy because it’s the start to my “Ranch life”, my older brother lives in the ranch with his wife and kids and I admire them so much, but 14 is a good age to start saving money for land eventually 😅
Difficult to save your way to wealth. Don’t be afraid to take risks brother.

I truly love watching your videos...it's wonderful watching you work cattle like you do, sir. I used to have a Morgan-Quarter horse cross, a handsome bay named Ranger. He was truly sweet, and very smart. We used to move cattle for a roping class they had at the fair grounds of the small farming and ranching town I grew up in. I never put a bridle with a bit on Ranger. The only guidance he needed working cattle was a little leg pressure and the lightest touch on the reins, and my quiet thanks and encouragement...he always knew what to do. I miss him deeply. I still have my saddle, which I'll never sell or give away. That was 45 years ago, working those steers on my Ranger. He was a truly great horse! Thanks for your videos. They bring back sweet memories!

It has been 25 years since I was forced to sell my Beautiful Palomino "Van's Gold" and I miss him today even more while watching this wonderful video. I have lots of pictures though so maybe I'll share a couple for the Love and Memories of my Golden Boy. Keep going Sweetheart 😊

Awww this brought back my memories on my paso fino horse. Went to round up bison for the first time and he took to it so naturally I basically just sat there. He made everyone laugh with his gait..but he could do the job! So we tried a few cow round ups too. Few team penning things locally for fun. He was one of a kind!

Never got off my horse to open a gate, he would slide right in there & hug that gate. Swing it good! He was an excellent side passer
His horse is still just learning how to cut and be useful. Good cutting horses take years. Imho. Can do job well with an inexperienced rider.

I would help for free anytime Trinity. I would fly myself there just to get to help. Just to get to see the ranch and the experience would be awesome. You are an amazing rancher. Make it look easy bud. That is the only issue is how deceiving you make it. Lol. The horse ur riding is gorgeous to. Amazingly smart to. Almost like you could teach and use without riding. I hate that u making it look so amazing. Screw it I'm moving to Montana.
Dear Chad Urbanski, Mr. Trinity mentioned thus on one of his videos, when/if you go through a gate leave it as you found it. Nothing a cow luges better then to go through an open gate, most especially if there is food on the other side.

Not sure how I ran across your channel but you've got another subscriber. It's refreshing to see someone who puts God and Country first. Watching this video brought back some great memories when I was a kid. We lived near a rodeo grounds and I was able to convince the manager there to let me help/work in trade for being able to ride. They showed me how to drive a 5 ton water truck so I could water down the arena before the rodeo's. I learned how to work with the cattle. I also learned what a shovel was for. LOL!
I wish some of the people that want to do away with your lifestyle could spend some time on a ranch to see how much ranchers care about there livestock. I think it would change their minds.

grew up doing this exact job. love the solo job. training the horse for range or feedlot pen riding is a task but well worth it. I subed and will be watching for more. Thank you for bring back the memories. Thanks for taking time to film and upload.

Thank you for this video. I really know very very little about horses but volunteer at a small organization that provides equine therapy for kids with disabilities. I enjoy watching your interaction with your horse and livestock. So interesting to see real life ranching.

Does it make it harder to control your balance while on the horse?
I’m pretty much tied to staying in my house now days.
I’m on O2 so your site and another one from a Montana rancher is what I watch when taking my breathing treatments in morning at noon and in the evening. Makes me remember my youth of long ago.
As stated earlier have a blessed week keeping all farmers ranchers agricultural industry in our prayers.

Wow, that was awesome! Were you filming with a drone of some kind? I could see you were holding something, but couldn't see a selfie stick or anything. I am amazed that you can ride a horse, sort cattle, catch a testy palomino, film yourself and the action, and talk us through what you are trying to do all at the same time. Kudos to you (and Calibar) for doing it just the two of you. Running the grey cow around the hay was like watching cat and mouse play. I'm surprised I didn't hear you cuss for all the trouble it gave you. The steer was no trouble at all compared to her! Thanks for sharing your life and ranching adventures. Respect to you.

I finally had time to watch this. Been busy with my own farm. People have no idea how hard it is to be out there working animals by yourself.... Especially when you make it look so easy. Also, people have no clue what a good horseman you are to pull that off . Fun to watch! That was awesome.
Questions...
Are those horses out there retired or ranch horses? Is that hay piled up there or straw? If it's hay, the cows can eat it if it gets moldy? And lastly, looks hard and a bit rocky out there. Do your horses get pads under their shoes?
PI have horses, warmbloods and TB's. I kinda giggle to myself because they'd never survive out there if they had to chase a cow down. Love your channel! So educating!
Brings back memories of when I used to take my old Appaloosa out and help move cows for guys wish I could still do that but my back won't let me. Love watching your videos sure is beautiful country up there.

Dear Trinity, one more comment. I used to work at a dairy that used horses to herd and cut and basically nursemaid the cows and bulls. This guy I (another Dutchman, I can't think of his name now) had a set up on his gates that the horse could shoulder open. The cows and bulls never learned this trick that I know of. Anyway you or your horse press into the gate to release the U of the gate opener. Then you can just let it shut or gently push it back closed. It didn't automatically shut but would close if GENTLY put in place. That gate thing was amazing, easy to do easy to learn and best very easy to repair if a cow pushed into it, scratching themselves or something. Again the cow may even have been trying to get out didn't work though. Great little invention that gate closer.
I got some giggles out of this. Have had horses most of my life and worked cattle. Yep. Same types of frustrations. lol
Love montana landscape and mountains. Sounds like ur around the highline somewhere. I live in great falls. Every summer, I take my rv to mountains west of choteau and augusta. I spend all summer moving from camp to camp. I love montana.
This video gives me so much anxiety. Only because when I was younger I worked cattle with my dad and if anything went wrong he would get real angry. So in the video whenever one of the animals did something he didn’t want them to I would tense up and expect him to yell. But he stayed calm the whole video. Good on you. I honestly want to live a life like this again but it’s hard when I’ve had the past experiences I have had with it.
yeah you would probably have a hard time unpacking that load so to speak. Might either want to stay out of ranching or go back to it after your father moves on. I say that with all due respect.
Good job! Whooo when that cow went through the trailers...... you should have heard me from here. My nickname would be the "Cursin' Cowgirl". So glad I got to see you close a gate from horseback. I had rigged all of my gates to be able to be closed from horseback. It takes some training but boy is it easier especially when you are on your own.

Trinity, going solo is my motto out of necessity. Started with my first 5 cow calf pairs at age 50... I"m now up to 40 pairs and I'm 64. Lost my best horse ever to colic last month. I've got another coming along. Thanks for the patience and discussion. I'll be watching more. The way your horse is workin' with that halter for bridle makes me think you ought to try a hack and mecate. The best light horses I've ever had eventually did really well with them. If they got hot I'd just switch back to a bit. How about a video on how to safely teach a horse to hobble? Thanks.

Love your videos, its great content, but it reminds me how much I miss Montana. I grew up there, but we left when I was in my later teens, I still consider it home and always will.

I love that you don't put a metal pain bit in your horse's mouth. A rope halter is just fine to use! Keep doing it right!

OK! Thank you fit that video! I just remembered what it was I really disliked about herding cows. They very much do have a mind of their own. And they get it in their head to go there instead of where you are directing them it can be a problem, so thanks again. By the way do you at the ranch use walky-talkies? The ones I'm familiar with have a range of 10 or 12 miles without a relay station and if you do have a relay station you can extend that to 30 to 50 miles or more depending on the hight of the antenna. If you like this idea you may it. One other comment I noticed that the on heifer you chased had horns. I take that to mean that you don't de-horn your cattle. Oh well. I also was curious if you can use a cell phone in your location? Much like that walktalk setup I asked about it takes a relay station and a special antenna to get good bars for a phone. Same principle just a different type of radio receiver transmitter. Love the video, you had me screaming at my phone to go cow, go cow, GO YOU GOL DARN HAY BURNER !!!
Yeah. She was being a pain, but I would have had her if that horse would not have been there.
We have cell service in some places, and we have used walkie talkies where we don’t have service.
@@LifeintheWest Dear Trinity, when you were leading the palomino and chasing the grey/white heifer why didn't you tie the palomino about 40-50 ' from the gate and then go after the heifer?

It is so obvious that the Lord created certain animals to be co-laborers with man. Some years back I worked with a fantastic draft mule team logging, haying, and other sundry jobs. There is so much they have to learn and any little thing can scare a team. But as soon as they trust you can talk them through pretty much anything. I am little older now but I am seriously considering getting another team to play around with in my quasi retirement. Great video . . . great, albeit tough lifestyle.

The cameras called a 360 not a drone no , he holds it on a stick and it films 360 degrees around him !

That's his only job around here, to make stubborn critters a little less stubborn! And half the time i dont even need him.
The animals out here have learned what it means when i yell AXL GET'EM UP .... a meat missile is headed their way. Only have to do it a couple times for any new additions.
After he's made an impression just saying AXL GET'M UP is enough. He's chillin under a truck somewhere but the livestock doesn't know it.
Those dogs are as good as a human helper and a lot happier about it for some reason...
I know ranching is very hard work we had a little farm there was always work todo love hard working andespecially the mountains i love the most a wonder ful life i would go to montana immediately 8f i had the oppertunity very nice video hope to see more of these

To really get a horse exposed and used to everything takes over a year typically.
