The only thing that's renewable about renewables, is that every 10-15 years they will need to be renewed. An utter waste of resources for no gain.

Ok, but it's a market so albo has no direct control of power price, also prices will go up over time for increased maintenance on coal plants and the cost of coal as commodity. Thats how markets work. For an accountant, Barnaby doesn't understand return on investment.

they seriously cant hear themselves " nuclear will cost us 30 billion " when the estimate for renewables is 1.5 trillion ! wait, let me do the math .. renewables need renewing every 15 years and nuclear will go for 80 years ... the greenie is setting us up for a disaster from a hail storm/ cyclone / micro-burst even, trashing the system and millions in repairs where in a disaster a coal or gas power station would keep plugging along making power needed for the clean up

Shoebridge puts out a steady string of completely wrong and uninformed information. There isn't time in this debate format to even begin to put in details. Of course there are choices, the rest of the world, without exception, has chosen more wisely, just look around and see what they are doing. All of their choices are cheaper, even those who decided to tear down their renewable "toys" and replace them with new coal solutions. As for building reliable energy solutions that our kids will enjoy in the future, . . . wind turbines and solar panels have a working life of 10 to 15 years. The only thing our kids will enjoy is an even bigger bill for dismantling the broken renewable toys and then rebuilding with whatever is chosen next in 10 years time. It is all wasted money. Of course the investment companies think its a great idea, they will suck the cash revenue out of it until it collapses, then walk away, with pockets full of cash. Wake up, see what is actually happening here. the taxpayers are getting bled white, and in case the tax money gets a bit thin, all the extra tax take (your cash), can be poured into it.

Renewables can’t be made without fossil fuels to make, manufacture and construct them.
If we look at the locations you would need large amounts of land for solar farms. As a rule of thumb, a 1MW solar farm will occupy approximately 2-3 hectares of land.18 Apr 2018.
AGL Bayswater coal fired power station provides 2715 megawatts.
Sydney have low annual consumption (average of 5,.154 mw while cold areas like Hobart have very high consumption (7.2 on average).19 Jan 2024.
So the solar farm for Sydney LGA would be about 15 hectares.
To produce the power of AGL power station you need 2715 x 3= 8,145 hectares of land.
    This simply not feasible.

They have made up their minds and will not be dissuaded. Makes who to vote for in the next federal election an easy choice. Life is made simpler. I like that.

I've said it elsewhere, I am a fan of renewable energy. But it is not ready to carry base load (the current iteration of renewables may never be). But the level of lying and disingenuousness from the green side of politics is off the chart.
So, you're telling me that a coal fired plant that has not been invested in and has trouble finding finance (given 30+year pay back) to develop new more efficient versions of coal power because of green's out and out lies is becoming unreliable? What are the odds? If you prevent a Toyota from being serviced and having the oil changed for 10-years it will likely have significant issues no matter how reliable it is to begin with.
And the green types simply ignore the environmental issues with "green" technology, and I'm NOT talking about the pseudo science of wind turbine headaches. If you want evidence, that is LEGAL PROOF, just look at all the legal cases with turnkey wind turbine and solar farms where the owner sues the builder (who designs, builds and typically maintains) because they are never as theoretically productive as estimated, they damage easily, and their working life is not even close to what was contracted. If the big engineering and construction firms (i.e. not your dodgy local builders) can't make it work, then who can?

Started watching this video with a very open mind. But as soon as the greens rep started making his arguments political (talking about the coalition) I quickly understood that they are not basing their arguments off facts, but ideology. If a coal power stations are aging thats to be expected, just cant see why you wouldnt sure up a system with either some coal or even better nuclear. Why do we have to be all in on one or another. Is there no scope for a middle ground.

  • @gilhardwick2269

Why the heck are our coal-fired power stations 40-50-60 years old, neglected to such a state that over summer they go out? That's no fault of coal, but lazy technicians and their union bosses refusing to maintain them, successive Labor governments refusing to fund routine maintenance and upgrades as up-to-date technology became available. No worries mate, there is always a lot more overtime dealing with constant breakdowns than there is keeping the place running efficiently. They did the same thing to our motor industry, and nearly our port facilities . . . until they got what-for from Patrick.

@@margaretarmstrong2445 Meanwhile the bulldozers, excavators, dump trucks at the mine, and the locomotives and wagons that move the coal to the power stations last forever don't they? You're not wrong but its a stupid argument. Everything needs maintenance, repair and eventual replacement.

    • @margaretarmstrong2445
      @margaretarmstrong2445 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@stuarthancock571 We had a total of 34 coal-fired power plants in Australia in 2010. We now have less than twenty in the whole of Australia. The government is planning to install 17,000 wind turbines, all of which are manufactured from mined materials and all require bulldozers, excavators, dump trucks and cranes to install them. The turbines are so big now that 'each blade' requires two specialised trucks to transport them and escort vehicles before and after. Some of these blades are in excess of ninety meters long so the journey from the port, which in our case is 300 kilometres, must be pre-planned. Because the blades are so long they require a wide arc when negotiating winding roads which results in the loss of large areas of native trees and scrub. The towers are moved in 5 separate parts and assembled on site. These also need oversized trucks which require escort vehicles and of course the same applies to the nacelles.
The solar projects also require bulldozers, excavators and dump trucks. There are 37 wind and solar projects near us, existing, being built or in the planning stages. Just 'one' wind/solar project near our home will comprise of 63 wind turbines at 6MW and standing 250m high which will utilise 77 square kilometres of agricultural land. The solar project will consist of more than a million solar panels and will utilise 13 square kilometres of land. This project will also need backup BESS of equal capacity as well as two substations and 11 kilometres of internal transmission lines to connect to the new national grid, which doesn't exist yet. Many of the intended projects will be back to back which will mean the loss of large amounts of native trees and scrub as well as native wildlife including birds and bats including endangered species.
Do a few sums based on the information I've given you. We rely on all of this infrastructure from China which means that all the raw materials were shipped there to manufacture the infrastructure which is then shipped all around the globe including Australia. All this and no one has even thought about what happens to all this infrastructure in 15 to 20 years time. Trust me, none of this has been thought through. The damage being done globally as well as here in Australia to push so called clean green energy is horrendous. You don't seem to understand the scale of the amount of raw materials that will be necessary for a transition to renewables. All of it is mined. Do some research, there is so much more I could tell you but it's not possible in a comment.

They also use batteries that have no safe disposal. There hasn’t been a nuclear power blow up for many years, not counting Japan because of a tsunami. And yes used rods are something to consider. It’s not going to happen quickly.
