My dad had one just like this, color and all, except his was a starchief. He out ran a 58 Impala tri power with it in 59. Oh, and his was a 4 barrel model.
One of my neighbor's son's had a '57 Bonneville convertible. After a couple of years he got a new '65 Bonneville convertible. I thought he was a really cool guy and then he became a god.
Thank you for sharing this car. Truly a piece of automotive history --- the grandaddy of all muscle cars to come! Most guys opted for the 3-deuces setup when wanting a real runner back then, but yeah, they would've loved to had fuel injection. Great video! Keep up the great work!
Ahhhh, my friend, you have outdone yourself with this top shelf sled of cool! Muscle car? Not by strict definition, but this gem has every right to be seen on Muscle Car Of The Week.
Always really liked Pontiac's. Definitely my favorite GM division for sure. A 1962 421 Super Duty Catalina is probably my favorite Pontiac ever. Kind of a toss up between the SD Catalina, a 1969 400 Ram Air IV GTO(not a Judge, just a regular GTO) and a 1973 455 Super Duty Firebird Formula( or an SD Trans Am but preferably an SD455 Formula) The Royal Bobcat cars are awesome too. Particularly a 68-69 GTO Royal Bobcat powered by the 428ci/390hp engine that only came in full size Pontiac's from the factory but was a dealer installed option for around $650 I believe. Royal Pontiac would pull out the base 400ci/335hp engine and stuff in the 428ci/390hp engine and give it a much more aggressive tune. Pontiac was always the coolest GM division
One of the many '57's that dazzled my twin brother and I when we arrived from England that year (we were 10). These beauties with all their chrome, size, power and charisma knocked our socks off and we immediately became car-crazies. Now decades later we've owned a myriad of cars but none more beloved and stunning as those in '50's and '60's. I don't think there were any that we couldn't identify in those days and were always hawking these rides. My nearest to this one was a '62 vert. Love your videos and knowledge of these cars Kevin and appreciate the Brothers sharing their seemingly endless collection.
I didn't read down through many of the comments so I'm not sure exactly what anyone else may have seen when they watched this video, but did anyone else notice that when this car took off and did the burn out it sounds pretty damn good???
Great video! One thing that would be really cool to include in these videos is the original MSRP of each car, including all of the options that were included on that particular car. Might take a bit of extra research, but it would be very informative. Keep up the good work!
I'm a Mopar guy but man oh man what a beauty this car is. Not to mention they were one of the fastest cars on the street in their day. The 57 Chevy seems to get all the attention for some reason but I'll take this car or a J2 Oldsmobile over a 57 Chevy any day. My grandfather bought a red and white 2 door Chieftain brand new in 57 but his had the 347 4 barrel. He wanted Tri Power but they didn't have any Tri Power Chieftain's on the lot and he didn't wanna order one and have to wait for it so he bought the 4 barrel version instead. He did eventually buy a Tri Power setup from the dealer and installed it himself. He said it was maybe the fastest car in town after that
Love it. Saw one of these a long time ago at the Barrie flea market and it's always stuck in my noggin. p.s. - (a Chevron is kinda like an upside down "V", those are slashes (for lack of a better term)).
Buick, Olds, and Cad all kept their Hydros; not sure about 54 Pontiacs. Butr it sure made it hard on the other makes that bought Hydros from GM... My 57 Olds was the 4 speed Hydro as well.
Yeah, can't believe he said 2 speeds at 04:28... maybe he was confusing it with Dual Range which meant 2 Drive positions... kind of hokey name for 4th and 3rd gears... Olds referred to 3rd as 'S' or Super Drive for passing other cars... and maybe he's not as knowledgeable as he tries to sound...
I think it was called 'Dual Range' Hydramatic as both 3rd and 4th gears were labeled "DRIVE" on the gear selector... Most GM cars got 2 speed PowerGlides in 1954 as the Hydramatic factory had burned... Cadillacs prolly got any stockpiled Hydramatics...
Still miss Pontiac and Olds I wonder how this car compared to the Chrysler 300 I have never seen one of these before it’s before my time dad had a 66 Bonnieville nice car the big three all had really special cars in the 60s always wanted to Studebaker Golden hawk
The Aztec was originally going to be based on the s10 chassis but GM told the designer it would be built on a front wheel van chassis. So it went from being a totally cool off-road legit machine to a fugly box!
I dont think the Bowtie Bozos understand that Pontiac is the performance division at GM. Ever notice how the GTO owners point at your Camaro and laugh just like the RoadRunner guy?
Well I think it was called 'Dual Range' Hydramatic as both 3rd and 4th gears were labeled "DRIVE" on the gear selector... Most GM cars got 2 speed PowerGlides in 1954 as the Hydramatic factory had burned... Cadillacs prolly got any stockpiled Hydramatics...

Exhaust through the bumper. Gotta love that.

I v e always really liked the idea of one of these cars revving up fierce

Hard to believe Pontiac is already gone over 10yrs. I’ve only ever known it as a sporty brand. Our 73 Grand Safari station wagon was a torque monster.
That, was fantastic, can't put into a words, how cool that car is! Really enjoyed seeing this episode, thanks keven.
My dream car.

Great band, great car. great narration. You, sir, are the master online historian of the muscle-car era.
You're very kind Sir!
She's beautiful.
Absolutely drop dead gorgeous. What a beautiful machine

Thank you so much! Power and beauty! Greetings from Havana Cuba!
How can you not like this
Be dropped on the head as a baby.
Could have come in more than one color
No doubt Kevin!
Absolutely Amazing! Thanks so much for showing this beautiful automobile. Keep up the great work guys!
Wow great restoration.
Absolutely one Beauitful rare piece of art. But maybe just as rare to see is a 1958-59 fuel injected impala would love to see one on this show!
Very nice.....anytime with these old gem cars Kev.....anytime..
Pontiac was some of the coolest cars GM ever made, if you haven't owned one, you just won't get it, Pontiacs in the 60's ruled the road.
Amen, Archie. I still think back fondly to my '65 GTO convertible. Ah, the good old days!
That is Smooth Cool 😎 1950s right There!!
Man! That bugger had power windows to boot! What a honey!
Great car! Great video! Would love to see more like this.......

Your videos are great and you are an excellent narrator, but when will they be coming out with new videos?
Beautiful Kevin
Love it. Saw one of these a long time ago at the Barrie flea market and it's always stuck in my noggin.
p.s. - (a Chevron is kinda like an upside down "V", those are slashes (for lack of a better term)).
Simulated louver
This was amazing!!
Sweet and over the top cool!
Be great to see it run with a 57 Merc turnpike cruiser with the super marauder 430.
The one that started it all.
Thats great, show us some more cars from the 50's
I'm a Mopar guy when it comes to muscle cars.....but Pontiac has always been my favorite muscle car manufacturer other than Dodge and Plymouth
Pretty Car
Pontiac...my favourite brand.
HE SAID 2 SPEED STRATOFLIGHT BUT ITWAS 4 SPEED IT WAS THE UP GRADED HYDROMATIC INTRODUCED IN 56 !....////
57 Pontiacs had a 4-speed hydra matic transmission, not a 2-speed!
Buick, Olds, and Cad all kept their Hydros; not sure about 54 Pontiacs. Butr it sure made it hard on the other makes that bought Hydros from GM... My 57 Olds was the 4 speed
Hydro as well.
I dig it, man !!!
Hydra-matics of this time frame were all four-speeds.
How about the 57 Olds j2?
Pretty cool !
Thanks Dave!
NOT a 2-speed auto trans. I owned a 57 Star chief; It had the standard GM Hydramatic - 4 speed I believe.
I'm only one minute into this what a bad ass car wow OK now I'm gonna watch the rest of the video dammit
Where is the Brothers Museum located ? Oh yeah , absolutely beautiful Pontiac !
Nice but muscle wasn't so rare. I believe Ford and Studebaker were available with superchargers in 1957.
Thank the higher power for Knutson...a god among men...YEAH! ďà wòöķįęè
Yall should do the 58 plymouth fury or belvedere if u have one thats my fav car
I see it had power windows. No A/C??
The maid such beautiful cars then...
Correction: 4 speed Hydromatic transmission.
Yes, I think he meant 2 Drive positions.
Nice! Is there a Black Widow in the collection?
Too few Pontiacs from that era survive today.
Still miss Pontiac and Olds I wonder how this car compared to the Chrysler 300 I have never seen one of these before it’s before my time dad had a 66 Bonnieville nice car the big three all had really special cars in the 60s always wanted to Studebaker Golden hawk
The Flock brothers ruled NASCAR 1955-56-57 with the Chrysler 300
I thought 57 Pontiacs had a 4 speed automatic transmission
It doesn't have the see through hood. That would make it complete.
Better on being a bit different style of car. Still waiting for the Corvair
Factory color scheme? precurser to 1969 1/2 Trans Am white with blue trim striping
Bunkie is who Pontiac needed in 2010 but instead they put a woman in charge and she released the Aztec and that sealed Pontiac's fate
The Aztec was originally going to be based on the s10 chassis but GM told the designer it would be built on a front wheel van chassis. So it went from being a totally cool off-road legit machine to a fugly box!
Need to see some flathead Ford performance now.... or wasn't there a Chrysler V12 that made the 80hp....
I dont think the Bowtie Bozos understand that Pontiac is the performance division at GM. Ever notice how the GTO owners point at your Camaro and laugh just like the RoadRunner guy?
Gordon Greninger coming from an oldsmobile guy, I totally understand lol.
Apparently GM told Chevy and Pontiac they couldn't go above 348" engines at the time... Olds said "Hold my Beer"...
A Chrysler 300C next then, right?
Btw, why was it that Chrysler had such problems with their fuel injection?
What would this automobile sell for today?
one leged burnout is a shame on such an important car not a 2 speed
Well I think it was called 'Dual Range' Hydramatic as both 3rd and 4th gears were labeled "DRIVE" on the gear selector...
Most GM cars got 2 speed PowerGlides in 1954 as the Hydramatic factory had burned... Cadillacs prolly got any stockpiled Hydramatics...
Most new technology came from GM. Fuel injection and front wheel drive are just two of the biggies.,
