An old soul and a class act even back then at only 23 years old. Never cocky and very respectful. My favorite player who sadly didn't get that ring or an extended run in the NBA due to injuries. 🔵⚫⚪
4eal that's crazy how he predicted his career how it was gonna go and it really happen it people did forget about penny especially nba when they compare players who's better
Penny is the best player to ever where number 1 period. Miss those days, their will never be another penny the kinda hype and excitment he brought in the mid 90's, with jordans retirement, he was the face of the nba.
Wow, I've always been a fan, but never heard anything too in depth from him. He seems like one of the more genuine NBA players I've ever seen. It was a shame what his injury did, but when it's all said and done, he got a few shout outs on some eightball and MJG songs. I'd take consolation any day of the week.
very interesting. when i was younger i looked up to him and we was my hero. i would watch interviews like this and never knew what he was talking about. now that i see this, he is a very humble man with quiet confidence. very inspiring and sad at the same time.
Hes probably my favorite player that I never got to see only being 18 years old. This guy was humble but had potential to be the face of the NBA. Fuck injuries..
PENNY, I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED YOU & YOU ARE MY TOP FAVORITE ATHLETE!!!! I still like you Penn although you are no longer playing B-Ball. But I do pray for the best in your life. Don't worry if anyone cares or likes you hun, remember that your family, fans and friends that feels you are very important. KEEP YOUR HEAD TO THE SKIES BABY!!! Muuaah... (miss you playing in the league. :(
penny had 6 great seasons before the injury bug hit him so stop hating and to say he wasn't shit compared to Mj who in fact is the G.O.A.T Penny was about to be the next in line for that Jordan said it in an Interview so did Magic they both said he was a mirror image of them both.
08:03 made me want to cry... his response to the question is hauntingly sad and ironic. It gave me chills. Penny is a GOAT. Without injuries he'd be better than Lebron AND Kobe. It just makes me so mad....
Sad what happen to the Magic after 96. Shaq leaves and people blame Penny. He proably played with pain in his knee so fans wouldn't hate him and wound up destroying his knee. I have the feeling if Shaq didn't leave the Magic would have won at least 3 Championships.
What's really sad is that his nightmares about a career ending injury to some degree actually came true. He was and still is one of my absolute favourite players, he clearly deserved a championship and tons of accolades he has not received in the end. His career can still be considered great, but the injuries were disastrous for the second half of his career. Plus Penny is a good, sensitive guy, which doesn't really help nowadays.
@somadeluxe3 So true. If those two weren't injured, they would have never put so much attention to Kobe Bryant. And players today would know the value of work ethic
97 all star game n ny look it up he led da ballot and was the youngest to start in the all star game...and one yr jordan didnt even make da starting 5 for an all star game n mcgrady gave up his starting spot..
In 93-97, those were Penny`s peak years. I wish i could have saw more with him because he was GREAT, not good! Looking at this brings up memories. I wish him the best. Hopefully, he can at least get a tryout. If Kevin Willis can with the Mavs, Penny should get a chance too! Sad because he was just getting started before he got hurted.
he woulda been a alltime great.. see in 04 when most thought he was long gone he STILL came up huge for ny in the playoffs, he always clutch, 2000 the trip-dub on the suns gettin to the 2nd round (before shaq's lakers knocked him out).. man what woulda been, he would be wrappin up a hall of fame career wit a few rings about now if the worries he had never came true.
It's also said that Julius Caesar's wife had a dream of him getting assassinated and warned him not to go out on the Ides of March, on which he of course ends up assassinated.
thats crazy how those fears came true, that aint right, i feel cheated as a fan cuz we woulda got to have so many great memories of his excellence and accomplshmnts if he never got hurt and shaq stayed.. imagine how he feels.... that was sad man, penny was amazing, all-nba 1st team two years in a row by age 23, nba finals same age..
His sneakerline is the only retro line that competes with the Jordan retro line his foams sell out instantly and so does his numbered signatures line not to be mention all the door hybrids like the half cent and Penny posites anything with the one cent logo on it sells out so idiots that day he wasn't that good just be on crack go back and look at the moves, jumpshots, fallaways, dunks, last second daggers, passes did dude was a freakin monsta.
+Derty Waterz i agree penny was like magic n jordan rolled into one...b4 the kobe kid ..penny was like kobe n his prime but was a great pg n wasnt selfish with da ball...ervybody knows how GREAT penny was....i jus beleieve point guards r way more prone to injuries esp the explosive ones..bcuz they r the most active players on the court esp..quik.."i can dunk" type players..they put so much pressure on they knees n they pay fo it much sooner...ex...derick rose, kyrie irving, isiah n the later years, penny ..kbbe jordon n lebron n em hav awesome athletism n r mentally touch n know to wok on their bodies n bcuz they were shooting guards n forwards mos of them set up for shots ..pg divert the defense,,score, pass n really r da "playmakers" of the team..salute to penny hes a legend n my eye ..i jus finish watching "This magic moment 30/30 espn movie" n i jus ben chekn out all of penny vintage videos..which lead me here..penny was on the verge he was marketable world wide great to watch n humble..if it time wasnt fo those injurys he wud defntly ben considered an all time eye great but those who love n foloow already feel he is
every thing that penny said in that interview happend the magic lost shaq and he got an injury that mess up is carrer wich suck because the Magic with shaq and penny would have been nba champions
@frusionnn SkipyOnline said that Penny outplayed MJ, but MJ had only played 18 games before the playoffs that year after being off 1 3/4 of a season. MJ was hardly at his best. My bad for not explaining. Penny was still cold, though. I wish injuries didn't derail his career.
@somadeluxe3 I've often thought the same thing. A lot of times, a whole league's reputation is based off a few super-stars and how they act. If Penny and Grant Hill stayed healthy, they would have been the face of the league and would have represented the league very well. Instead, Allen Iverson/Steve Francis/Vince Carter/Stephon Marbury got a lot of attention in the early 2000's and they represented the league horribly with their terrible attitudes and off court problems.

Well, he had 4 great seasons (he got injured in 97-98), but I smell what you're grilling. I think Jordan knew too. He always mentioned Penny when it came to players who would take the torch after he retired. Penny was a very special player. It's a shame that he could never fulfill his potential.
He didn't allow his knee to fully recover during the 97 season. I think he only got around 8 weeks of rest. Penny needed need more time, he didn't even go through rehabilitation. He should have sat out the entire 97 season and allowed his knee to fully heal, and things would have been different.
Couldnt no player in the league guard Penny not even Mj or Pippen and that's true facts look at those games Penny was a beast.
He had such a unique offensive game, truly his moves were a beauty to behold
Crazy how all of Penny’s fear and dreams became a reality. Positive mindset is very important. Definitely one of my favourite players of all time.
An old soul and a class act even back then at only 23 years old. Never cocky and very respectful. My favorite player who sadly didn't get that ring or an extended run in the NBA due to injuries. 🔵⚫⚪
Damn he predicted his future, my favorite player besides DEE BROWN the slam dunk champ!!!
He's really underrated man.. Some ppl don't know about him and all they know is jordan , Barkley , but this guy is an all time great
Everything he feared happened :(
4eal that's crazy how he predicted his career how it was gonna go and it really happen it people did forget about penny especially nba when they compare players who's better

Penny was like this since Ella Walker..yep
Penny is the best player to ever where number 1 period. Miss those days, their will never be another penny the kinda hype and excitment he brought in the mid 90's, with jordans retirement, he was the face of the nba.

very interesting. when i was younger i looked up to him and we was my hero. i would watch interviews like this and never knew what he was talking about. now that i see this, he is a very humble man with quiet confidence. very inspiring and sad at the same time.
my GOAT without injuries
I always liked Penny when i was a kid.
I remember rushing to the school library rushing to see the SI Magazine with him on the Cover.
if penny never got hurt and shaq stayed, the orlando penny and shaq would have been better than the LA Kobe and Shaq.
I agree
Hes probably my favorite player that I never got to see only being 18 years old. This guy was humble but had potential to be the face of the NBA. Fuck injuries..
@SkipyOnline remember people tend to forget this, Penny Hardaway outplayed Michael Jordan in the 1995 semis

Penny is a GOAT. Without injuries he'd be better than Lebron AND Kobe. It just makes me so mad....
i agree 💯%

Penny is back with the heat!! I hope everything works out! And he is back with Shaq!! Good luck Penny and i wish you the best!!
@vcatequista the Magic would have to get passed Michael Jordan in 1996-1998 to win at least 3 championships. don't forget that
Would have been best pg ever
me too man...
What's really sad is that his nightmares about a career ending injury to some degree actually came true. @somadeluxe3 So true. If those two weren't injured, they would have never put so much attention to Kobe Bryant. And players today would know the value of work ethic

He foretells his own future and Shaq's beginning at 8:00 . Dark prophecies, muhahaha.
It's also said that Julius Caesar's wife had a dream of him getting assassinated and warned him not to go out on the Ides of March, on which he of course ends up assassinated.

@jdmek9tec WHAT KOBE IS NOW IS WHAT PENNY WAS SUPPOSE TO BE BUT A BETTER PASSER IF HE NEVER GOT INJURED....

@liweiwu007
MJ also drafted Kwame Brown out of high school as a number one.
MISTAKE.

*sigh* What might have been!
