believe me or not, Genki apparently mastered the whole "laser scanning" tech back in the early 2000s in the demo version of TXR3, long before Assetto we're even a thing
My favorite Tokyo Xtreme Racer game is Kaido Battle 3 Touge no Densetsu (2005) also known as Kaido Racer 2 in Europe (2006) and Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2 in North America (2007).
Need to try the Kaido Racer games at somepoint.
That's probably my second favorite. My overall favorite is Import Tuner Challenge.

I've been a collector of these games for years since I first played Tokyo Xtreme Racer on the Dreamcast! Absolutely love them! I also have the Kaido Battle series, Racing Battle C1 and a couple others. Good to see other people out there who love the series!
I think I found a place to buy the strategy guides, I'm debating on blowing the money, there all used too

TXR series was straight up like heroin. I thought about the game all day at work and just couldn't wait to get back on the highway after dark to lay waste to all challengers. I love when they added B.A.D. name handles based on your driving/racing abilities. I had some of the best names nobody really had.
Kaido Battle has arguably better controls than the main Shutokou Battle series.
The controls are not bad, but tread a fine line between simulator and arcade. You'll understand where I'm coming from if you've played NFS Porsche Unleashed before. If you expected Burnout like drifting, just go back to playing Burnout or one of the newer NFS titles.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer Series was such a underrated gem, especially how amazing Genki Racing Project pictures Japanese Culture of Street Racing both Wangan/Togue
With some amazing detail, like bunch of cars, all special personalitu rivals, unique gameplay, kick ass soundtrack, and etc.
What A Gems of Racing Games!
There's Autobahn Tokio that was released for 3DO (Japan Only) that takes place on the Shutokou Expressway. There's a few other JDM street racing games that was released for the Sega Saturn in Japan. Touge King the Spirits 1/2 & Wangan Dead Heat. Also, Initial D was on the Saturn in Japan. Street Supremacy for PSP is part of the TXR series. All great games.
Thanks for this video man. Tokyo xtrem racer 2 is not only the best game in the serie, it’s one of the very best racing game ever made in video game history. A total masterpiece and the most underrated game of all time. In my top 3 best game I ever played. The handling is way better than zero in my point of wiew, the car slection screen is amazing, and I prefer the design, the music, sfx and light effect of the 2 than the zero. There was so many customizing option, visually and performance wise. And the replay value was infinite. Everybody was talking about nfs underground back then, but i kinda looked at NFS U like it was half of a game compared to TXR 2. It wasnt even close to be as good as this.

Zero gave is body modification and turbo noises. It’s by far the best in the series

First drift game issue was chase camera..change on close and you have solved it...not to mention you picked civic type r...one of most quarky and gimmiky cars in existance

What hdmi do u use looks so clean for the dream cast n ps2?
Dreamcast and PS2 never had HDMI, only high end TV's and PC's had them in 2000. HDMI wasn't commonplace till around '06-'07, around when the PS3 and 360 came out since those supported HDMI resolutions from their respective launches. He is probably using an upscaler like an OSSC.
Or he is using an emulator pcsx2 (pc or xbox series s/x, more devices can do it but it needs to be powerful)

I actually like the handling a bit better in Tokyo Xtreme racer zero. I don't like that you can't assign triggers to accelerate and brake in Tokyo Xtreme racer zero though. The car handling in Tokyo Xtreme racer 3 has the car doing too much of a pendulum movement on the steering
Replaying them now and control setting B in zero sets it like that. Handling seems to depend on upgrades and car settings. Doesnt change the game being awful and ai being ultra rubberbandy
Plus on TXR 3 you can't have more than 5 cars which is absolutely stupid.
@@hitek9too255 I usually only have three cars at most. I don't need a big collection of cars. I stick to one car and upgrade it but have others in case a wanderer has some stupid reason to not race me because I'm driving the wrong car or I have too many miles on the odometer.
Shutokou 01 (TXR3?) is completely different from the Shutokou Zero imo, both how the car handles (mainly, understeer on almost all cars and how the collision does)
Though to me, Racing Battle C1 GP is the best one (Didn't used the Shutokou/TXR name, but it was the spiritual successor of both Shutokou and Kaido series, before the "final" Shutokou X released. While the smartphone Shutokou Xtreme (Only released in JPN app store) was a complete failure.)

I do enjoy the Tokyo Xtreme racer games but the biggest problem with them is the car handling is really weird even for an arcade game. I've played all of the Tokyo Xtreme racer games. I would love to see them bring out a new one.
You have to change the response in the settings. By default it's set really low so the sticks have like a delay for inputs but if you max it out it feels like it should.
@@BRZguy @Taylor Lex I know about that response thing but it still doesn't change the way the steering is rubber band like. For example when I steer right and then think I'm going to go straight by centering my steering the car steers left a small bit. No amount responsr adjustment changes that.
I just started kaido 1 on ps2 and controls are fine. I think its meant to be played on dualshock 2. Also xtreme racer 0 is dogshit cause they make your car dive like it has 50 horsepower and everyone else gets a tesla so the intended way to win is to block everyone since racers and traffic conspire against you. It also looks awful to the point you have to memorize the roads because you cant tell if theres a turn coming.
Fair point. I need to try the Kaido games at some point. My fav was Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 from what I played tbh.

@@NerfMaster000 vehicle class doesn't change how awful and rammy the AI is nor how the graphics make the road basically unreadable.
If only Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero had the same engine sounds from TXR2. In TXR0, all the cars sounded the same unfortunately
Well I agree sounds could be improved but it’s still better than the older grand turismo where the cars sound like vacuum cleaners
@@tgipro6387 GT1 sounds were horrible, GT2 was a step up but yeah, the older GT games sounds do not hold up to today's standards at all
