  • This video showcases the Factory Pro "Long Boy" Extended Fuel Screws (idle mix screws) which are available for a variety of motorcycles. In this video they are installed on a modified 1997 Suzuki Bandit GSF1200S.
    I also show my process of tuning the idle mix by just listening to the engine and exhaust. Listen for lowering or raising RPM, listen for popping or fluttering sounds, etc.
    Whether or not you are using extended screws, this video may help someone set their motorcycle idle mix after a new filter or exhaust install.
    NOTE: Do not set your mix too lean for too long, and don't set it too rich and allow it to foul the plugs and stall the bike. You'll have to remove the plugs, clean them, and start again. Take your time and make minimal adjustments as you go along.
    The awesome thing about the Long Boy Extended Fuel Screws is that once you get it set well enough to ride, you can pull over and easily make further adjustments. So EASY! That's the point.
    You can find your Long Boy Extended Fuel Screw application here: factorypro.com/....
    The site is a bit tricky to navigate so you may want to visit the Home page directly: factorypro.com/.
    If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
    And Factory Pro, if you read this, please hire me to rebuild your website!

    Great video. I'll get an hand on those long boy. Oh, btw, you should always set the #2 and 3 cylinders one quarter to half turn more out as they tend to run hotter.

      Thanks. I've heard that for some bikes, but for the Bandit my understanding (can't remember my sources, manual maybe) they are set the same. I do understand the concept and reasoning. Maybe I'll give it try just to see what happens. Thanks.

    Makes life a hell of a lot easier than needing a super stubby screwdriver or flexible one and burning your hands on a hot engine after you realize that as it gets hotter and it wants more fuel. It's already too late to try reaching in there to feel around for those pilot screws! Nice find and definitely a good thing to have with a aftermarket intake and exhaust system which can make your engine more temperamental for running in certain conditions. 😀

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Factory pro does not list any upgrades for the 600 Bandit of that year. I went to another website to look at parts diagrams and part numbers for both the 2003 1200 Bandit and 600 Bandit hoping the idle mixture adjustment screw would be the same part number. It is not. Both those bikes have very different screws. So the result is any screw that factory pro makes for the 1200 is definitely not going to work for the 600.

      I watched your video. Are you tuning it without an airbox on?
      Just thought I'd ask, because you should not need to go more than 3 turns out. Any more than that and you are compensating for a different problem. Sorry if I'm telling you something you already know. 😉
      Keep in mind that each cylinder's carb should have the exact same settings/jets, despite the fact that the center cylinders may run a tad hotter. If they don't have the same settings, then again you're compensating for a different problem. Could be dirty jets, worn idle screws, a small leak the carb boot, etc.
      I noticed when I pulled out my original idle mix adjustments that a couple of them were looking worn... thus there would be different settings. It isn't hurting anything really, just wanted to mention it.
      As for the jets and needle height, I did a lot of riding, adjust/change, ride again, feel what's happening.... many times before I landed in a sweet spot. Was quite a chore... but so worth it.
      I hope you get it sorted. That is definitely an interesting project. Cheers!

    how is there no fuel coming out did you drain the bowls first

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not at all. There's no standing fuel at the mix screw. Only during operation does any vacuum cause fuel to be drawn up from the bowl and past the idle mix screw. The mix screw is higher than the fuel level in the float bowl.
      Good question.

    • @virtuosomuso
      @virtuosomuso ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KARMAkazeMoto i may have a problem then , i unscrewed a mix screw to the point it was very nearly out and fuel was dripping out

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      Same motorcycle as in my video?
      It would be possible for that to happen if the carburetors were getting flooded because the float valve is stuck open or the floats in the bowl are no longer adjusted correctly. So basically if they were filling up too high, then maybe you'd have a little fuel in the passageway that leads to the idle mix screw. Did it only drip a tiny bit or was it a continuous flow? Also, was every carburetor doing the same thing or only one?

    • @virtuosomuso
      @virtuosomuso ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KARMAkazeMoto no it's a 1200 suzuki bandit, sorted it now, had carbs off cleaned them renewed all o-rings and gaskets, this tuning thing isn't that easy, i have a 90° scre driver but it's still hard to do lol

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's also a 1200 Bandit. Glad you sorted out the leaks. Couple other things to think about. If you have a fair amount of miles on the bike, best to adjust the valves. It's a requirement according to the service manual, and should be done before carb tuning. Then get the fuel mixed adjusted well, which involves checking float height too (annoying). Then you must sync the carbs. Syncing the carbs is crucial. Requires a tool that tests the vacuum of each carb. Synced carbs will help each cylinder draw the same amount of fuel and run smoothly and strong. I noticed a big improvement when I did mine. No more loping. Engine purs pretty well.
      You're right... all a bit tricky and time consuming, but worth it.
      Happy riding! And post a vid of that thing running!

    How many turns in each is used?
    I have an identical Bandit!
    And where do I find this type of screw?

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Should be a link in the description to find it.
      The number of turns depends on your bike. A stock bike may be at 2 turns out to 2 1/4. Modified bike, up to 3 turns out, but that is really going far. I don't think you want to be more than 2.5. any further than that and you should be adjusting your needle up a little.
      I'd suggest starting at 2.5 turns. Get the bike warmed up. Run the bike at idle. Turn each screw in 1/8 turn. If/when you start to notice stutter/pop/flutter, go back out 1/8. Go for a ride. Is acceleration from a stop smooth and as expected? Good. Is it a bit of a jerk or lag? Turn screws out 1/8 until correct. Is the bike low on power, stall out or making smoke? Turn the screws in 1/8 until running well.
      Don't rush it. Don't let the engine overheat either. You can't set it right if it is overheating.
      Hope that helps.
