    Polgar is such a treat to listen to when she commentates. It's really nice to see such a cool game of her's such as this one.

      Agreed. Judit is an excellent commentator: she has a keen understanding of the game but objective too.

    I remember this game, since I was volunteering in the broadcast room during the event. I had a really good laugh after the game during the press conference, because in the broadcast Judit was quite critical of Magnus and Fabi because they were playing a drawn position for a long time, and then a reporter asked them about it! Magnus's reaction was priceless!

    There was a Shirov Polgar game that was insane, I recall. I can't remember if I saw it on your channel or not previously. Might be my favorite game of all time. Two attacking geniuses creating the most chaotic mess of all time. Move after move of utter insanity, somehow accurate, extremely difficult for a beginner to follow. A work of art if you can wrap your head around it.

      And Polgar vs Anand was very nice. There is also Polgar eating young Mamedyarov for lunch. Basically everyone was crushed by Judit. Magnus was lucky that his era has started when Judit's was declining (marriage, kids and stuff).

      Yup. The film-makers scored an own-goal there. They could have used games by the best women in chess history.

    • @DerMig590
      @DerMig590 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PowerPlayChess Ironically, the writers actively avoided the extreme sexism she would have experienced at that time while simultaneously employing their own brand in scoring that "own goal" there. The Botez sisters were sponsored by Netflix to critique the show on their channel and they mentioned several instances of sexism they experience even recently being women in a largely man's sport. The show does a great job of promoting chess and by choosing to make the character female they inspired many girls to play, but they coulda shoulda gone that extra mile. Thank you sir for addressing this issue which has been largely dismissed in the community. Obviously Netflix isn't sponsoring you lol.

    Can someone please help me. I don't understand why 7.Nxf6+ wasn't played. We are taught that bishops are better than knights and surely two bishops versus one bishop will give black an advantage. Plenty of reasons to take the bishop. I understand the point about exchanges simplifying the position and making an attack less effective, but principles are principles. It's instances like this that baffle me, as we are taught one thing, then the opposite is carried out. I do love chess, but this kind of contradiction makes me feel like mastery of it is impossible. :-(

    • @PowerPlayChess
      @PowerPlayChess  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exchanging with 7 Nxf6+ Qxf6 brings the queen to an excellent square and it will be much easier for Black to put pressure on the centre (...0-0, ...Rd8)

    • @happyhornet1000
      @happyhornet1000 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PowerPlayChess Thanks for the explanation Daniel. I guess it all depends on the position. Chess seems full of contradictions at times, but I guess I will learn with time and practice.
