    Nothing to do with you directly Jeff but something definatley to think about,Because you are such a "fan " of taking things apart many times ,like the engines of your lovely Porsche and Alferrari, well I was in an accident where my friend was killed and I was nearly too,when a mans Range Rover lost its propshaft due to the NylonNuts coming off at high speed,in the inquest the makers of the nuts said they were only to be done up once and maximum three times,but they found these nylock nuts had been taken apart at least 14 times due to having problems with clutch and gearbox over the years.
    No fault on the owner but Its something we petrolheads never think of but I do now. and your followers might after this.

    Nearly there Jeff..... It's always the little stuff that is time consuming. You're patience and persistence is amazing, especially with how pure the 911 is. I realise there are Jeff modernisations and touches for ease and aesthetics, however for the most part the vehicle is beautifully pure which is very very impressive. Just a magnificent build Jeff. Also loving the Alferrrari journey which is anything but pure but shows how you can develop engineering and design skills like a champion.

    Yes, it's a 36mm spanner - I bought one normally for use on trucks, does the job nicely. For the wiper there is a intermittent setting with a little knob somewhere on the dash (I think above the clock, from memory.) The final 1% is a killer, but you're getting there!

    Wipers not parking is possibly because you've got the trigger feed, but not the permanent feed to keep them going until they park again. Maybe your trigger/permanent the wrong way round?

    • @terryhinsen1429
      @terryhinsen1429 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is indeed most likely the problem. Wipers do need a permanent + as the switched + disconnects the moment you switched them on. This happens in the contactring of the wiper motor itself. So the permanent + is definitely needed to get them back in park if that makes any sense.

    • @neilt8790
      @neilt8790 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Garry's correct, there should be a straight ignition feed which powers the wipers to the park position until a switch in the motor breaks the circuit.

    • @Paul_VanGo
      @Paul_VanGo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And the correct sequence is off - intermittent - low - high.
      The intermittent works through a timer relay, or as mentioned before, through a potentio-meter knob on the dash.

    I don't know about Porsches, but on many other cars when you have problems with the wipers not parking or not shutting off, it's actually an issue with the internals of the wiper motor itself and not the control switch. See if your repair manual has any information on how the wiper park function works inside the wiper motor.

    As Garry mentioned below, you need a switched 12v (constant 12v with the key on) at the wiper motor for the wipers to park. If everything is hooked up correctly and the switched 12v feed is good, the park-contact in the wiper motor itself could be bad. It's often not a difficult item to fix once you have the motor in hand.
    Here is a wiring diagram: www.pff.de/wcf/attachment/286251-sw-jpg/ (this would also be in the Haynes manual... you really aren't into books, though, are you :-p ). The wiper switch on 911's has 3 positions: slow, fast, and turbo (fast wipers for a fast car :-D). There is a separate radio-volume-knob like switch for the adjustable intermittent wiping.
    Translation:
    Scheibenwischermotor - Wiper motor
    Wischintervall - intermittent wiper
    Wisch Wasch Schalter - Wiper Washer switch
    Sw - Schwarz - black
    Rt - Rot - red
    Ws - Weiss - white
    Ge - Gelb - yellow
    Gn - Gruen - green
    Vi - Violett
    Br - Braun (generally always gnd on German cars. I assume you know, but just in case...)
    Point '1' is switched 12v distribution, '19' is gnd. The switched 12v feed for the park position is the Rt/Ws wire running from '1' to terminal 53a on the wiper motor.
    I certainly hope this one is a keeper (as someone mentioned selling below 8-0 ). It will be a good investment as well. 911's are still going up...

    • @Steve_MFr
      @Steve_MFr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      BTW, you'll want to install a short shift kit - it makes a huge difference on older 911s. I always installed these (still have one on my '76): www.mecatechnic.com/fr-FR/levier-de-vitesses-court-pour-porsche-911-a-boite-915_RS11955.htm but that was 25+ years ago (and I never used the epoxy - always just tacked a weld front and back). It seems nowdays they all come with more bits www.ebay.com/itm/New-OE-Supplier-Manual-Transmission-Short-Shift-Kit-91142493100-Porsche-911-/282496423146 . You might even find one in Porsche parts by Jeff!

  • @aussiextr7176
    @aussiextr7176 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is a switch on the sprocket run from the worm drive of the wiper motor. You will need to remove the wiper motor and take off the inspection panel to see the switch. Also the three power wires need to be hooked up correctly for it all to work. I have photos from my 66 Porsche if you need a reference, but oneve you have it out on the bench and hook it up to a battery it is easy to work out which is which. I just went to Supercheap and bought a cheap spanner and cut a slot in the ring with an angle grinder to tighten my oil line. Oh when you put the wiper motor back in it is a pain to find out where the arm connects. Trial error and masking tape flags are your friend.

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great stuff. I will pull it apart and play around as you say and see if I can get it working properly. Thanks

    • @aussiextr7176
      @aussiextr7176 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HomeBuiltByJeff Also I just checked my spanner to tighten up the oil line. It is a 32 mm ring spanner from Supercheap. Yours may be different just check before you cut up your best 36mm. My car is a bit like yours, just a bit more yellow. www.stylingautomotive.com.au/project/bahama-yellow-912

    • @mgbgtcarguy5411
      @mgbgtcarguy5411 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jeff, if you are going to pull it apart, it would also be useful to ensure that polarity to the motor is correct. The wipers will appear to work correctly when polarity is wrong, but will not park as a small sensor on the cog travels in the wrong direction. At least that was the issue with my MG. Cheers on a great build.

    May sound weird but, when someone made the car right hand drive, and reversed the wiper sweep left to right maybe they made changes for that. • @Flexnes1
    @Flexnes1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    On my SC, a faulty intermittent wiper relay caused the wipers to not park. I could however get them to park by switching on the intermittent wipers.
    You could make your own oil line spanners by cutting up a 36 mm spanner to get it to fit over the line. Like this: instagram.com/p/Bw7g8PSlgrD/?igshid=hmld46ox2amh
