Thanks for watching! My Dad took me to Elvin’s live performance, when I was 10. Since then, especially the 90’s, I watched Elvin’s performance so many times. I also did interpreter for his drum clinic in Japan. I got huge influence from his playing.
Thanks! First time I saw Elvin’s playing was more than 40years ago. He often came to Japan 70s to 90s. I once did a translator for his clinic. I spent 3days with him. That was a quite experience.
Elvin's most impressive features where his press roll and his way of playing 6 against 4. He once told me his concept of rhythm is circular like the figure "8"♾. His style of jazz drumming was very controversial but fit amazingly well with John Coltrane! Nice work Masahiko!
For myself and other drummers We can play sweeping smooth Triplet fills. But Elvins style doesn't Really call for this approach. He mixes up short lightening fast rudimental based fills with sudden Changes!! He is amazing.
You know this is an excellent teacher when you cannot understand a word of Japanese but you still learn a great deal! Thank you, maestro!

Thanks for the great comment.
I heard about his concept, too. His arms moved almost like drawing the circles.
What a different drummer he was.

Hello, I will appreciate aswer me as follows . Why did Elvin sometimes hold the drumstick backwards on left hand?
Thanks in advanced !
