First Impressions of VIENNA 🇦🇹 48 hours in this UNDERRATED City
Vienna was amazing and we can’t wait to come back and stay for much longer.
That is a potato salad...with a classic oil and vinegar dressing and additionally a little bit of pumpkinseed oil (=black oil, and "No" that was not Balsamico vinegar) mixed with "lamb´s lettuce" which we in Vienna name "Vogerlsalat" meaning literally "little bird´s salad"
I suppose you expected mayonaise for a potato salad...that´s not so much a thing for a Schnitzel because the Schnitzel is already a heavy dish ..potato salat with mayonaise we use foremost for fish dishes.
Your street food (sandwich) was actually "Balkan food" (nothing wrong about that, those were grilled minced meat rolls (usually a mixture out of beef and lamb) called "Cevapcici" in a pita bread with "Ajvar" relish which is a red bellpepper paste ) and is not Austrian (at least since 1918 not anymore)..."our Austrian Street food" is grilled sausages in all forms and variations...but the by far most prominent streetfood sausage is named "Käsekrainer" which is a grilled sausage filled with cheese.
We will be coming back to Vienna next month, any tips?
The interesting Part about the Architecture in Prague and Vienna is, that the Architecture in Prague was built as it was Part of Austria.
Really? We loved both cities but need to go back to Vienna and see more. Feels like we saw only 2% of this beautiful city.
You can get any type of Asian food (including Vietnamese) in Prato or Milan (way more than Vienna). The whole Italian cuisine is a derivative of Asian food, of course they love Asian food in Italy, East Asian food is literally the highest voted most liked food for Italians, especially ramen, dumplings and other dishes that are somewhat similar to Italian foods.
Looks great. Loved that potato salad in the beginning.
Thank you!
@1:41 no balsamic 🙂
traditional Austrian potato salad is made with wine or cider vinegar and pumpkin seed oil (that's the dark stuff you mistook for balsamic vinegar).
Pro tip for adventurers: try vanilla icecream with whipped cream and some (good) pumpkin seed oil (preferably from Styria); sounds weird, but is actually _delicious_.
@2:30 yes, it's soot and other air pollution, that really seeps into the sandstone. But they are currently renovating and cleaning it (hence the lighter parts).
@5:30 many Viennese say that the Sachertorte at Sacher isn't actually the best. The main reason being that they modified the recipe for longer shelf life (they ship their cakes worldwide) and it's therefore quite dry with a very 'solid' chocolate layer compared to other variations.
The cake was actually invented at the court of Prince Metternich, where Franz Sacher worked as an apprentice; his son Eduard Sacher later perfected the recipe while working at the "Demel" café and bakery, before opening his own hotel/café. After some legal quarrels and the bankruptcy of Hotel Sacher, Demel actually bought back the naming rights, but was later again challenged in court. After an out-of-court settlement they agreed to sell the "original Sacher Torte" at Hotel Sacher and the "Eduard Sacher Torte" (a.k.a. "the real Sacher Torte" among Viennese) at Demel's. Demel uses a smoother chocolate frosting with a layer of apricot jam right underneath, making the whole experience a lot 'creamier'.
As an Austrian i give you the tip to leave vienna and drive along the danube river in the west direction. You will see a beautifull landscape, you will get more and local food and can enjoy the architecture too.
We will be coming back to Austria in the next month or so. What towns west do you suggest to visit?
@@vernonandmaryana If you want to sleep in vienna again then you can visit Krems an der Donau for example. You can reach this town in the famous WACHAU in one hour by train from vienna. If you rent a car there a beautiful small cities around vienna in my region like Zwettl or the famous and beautiful Mariazell. So if you let me know where do you sleep i can send you more pretty destinations. And if you really want to Taste our authentic food, ask local people for Restaurants and Gasthäuser where they would eat. There you get real Austrian food for a much lower price then in tourist Restaurants.
Thanks for the video! We hope to be there in December 2024, and your video is very helpful!
Nice!
Thanks!
For more Mozart you have to visit Salzburg, where was born... Mozartkugeln are absolutely delicious...👍🤘
Next time! We got some and they’re amazing!
The strange sandwich you showed us is Bosnian food not Austrian and it is called Cevapi or Cevapcici. :)
Although true, you find Cevapcici (without the bun, served with french fries and onion mustard) on the menu of nearly every restaurant serving traditional Viennese cuisine now.
ye .. i dont know why everyone is so impressed of the outside view of st. stephans cathredral .. its ALWAYS under construction xD cause its built of sandstone. me most shit stone you can build a long lasting building of xD
