    I never usually comment but I’ve just bought a car that has one already installed and I’ve been trying to learn about it since I’ve never come across something like this before! Thank you so much for doing the video!

    Thanks so much for the instructional video. Together with the bollards, the axe, key pouch, 5 trackers, the ghost makes a wonderful addition.

    How come it is not Thactham approved, do they view it as sub-standard in some way to what they have approved?

    • @anthonyhicklin9800
      @anthonyhicklin9800 ปีที่แล้ว

      In short, Ghost Immobilisers are not Thatcham approved, this is because the method that the Ghost Immobiliser works on does not have a banding category within the Thatcham mode of certification anymore, this is alongside vehicle trackers, as they are aftermarket security measures.
      Despite this, since March 2020, The Autowatch Ghost Immobiliser is TASSA approved and recognised by some insurers.

    Hi. Do you think it's still worth getting one if your car isn't a keyless start - i.e you need a key to start your car (key has a code in it though)?

    AutoWatch also has a location here in Canada, City of Guelph for those who live in Canada and in North America. I'm thinking of getting this immobilizer myself. I think it's really the #1 piece of security that will stop thieves

    Surely a dumb question but, can thieves use odb port to disable the ghost immobilizer?

    • @THEMAKERSH3D
      @THEMAKERSH3D  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, whilst the Ghost does sit on the CANBUS it won’t respond to anything, connecting to the OBD doesn’t allow any communication with the ghost.

    Great info, thanks Josh. Do you know if it impacts factory remote start functionality?

    • @THEMAKERSH3D
      @THEMAKERSH3D  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t believe so, there’s a function that allows you to start the vehicle without the code but will not allow you to shift from park (on autos)

    Great vid! And probably only video i've come across that explained the process of changing the code.
    I just got a ghost immobiler in my car today. I'm quite keen on changing my button sequence.
    I understood everything till you put your new sequence, then i wasn't sure if you repeated the new code or if you took your foot off the accelerator. Any help on this would be appreicated :)

    Nice unit. Shame it can't sync with the actual car alarm if somebody moves into gear without first entering the code.

  • @teddym2808
    @teddym2808 ปีที่แล้ว

    Everyone should also put their key in a faraday pouch when you go to bed at night which foils the two man thief team that try to boost the car controller. You don't really need the OBD blocker since you've got the ghost, well you don't need the other either but if they can't boost to open the doors they just might move on. I am here in Australia, never heard of the Ghost, so on my car I have the heavy duty port blocker and a faraday pouch the key is always in unless I am driving (cause you have to take it out of the pouch when in the car so the car can get the key signal lol).

    • @THEMAKERSH3D
      @THEMAKERSH3D  ปีที่แล้ว

      I turn off keyless entry on all my vehicles. It’s a convenience feature that’s not worth the risk.

    • @teddym2808
      @teddym2808 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@THEMAKERSH3D I have a asteel block on my OBD port that I am only going to take off at service time, hopefully never more than once a year.
      There is no such option in the vehicle's settings, I'd have to use some OBD programmer to do it, hence, OBD port.
      Faraday pouch is just as simple a solution and you don't lose the convenience. It is impossible to hack or boost a signal that's not there, and your car will still signal when it locks the doors when you press the lock button, so it's always best to be vigilant when you lock up and turn around when you are say 30 seconds away from your car and see if your mirrors are still folded, i.e. car locked. I lock, pop into a faraday pouch, walk away, then check on it to make sure no one intercepted the signal before I put it into the pouch. That's all I can do.
      I do have a steering wheel lock, one that goes over the spokes so you can't cut the wheel, with a motion alarm of its own, and I can't believe how accurate it is but it is. It works on air pressure I believe. As soon as I open the door, it knows, every single time.
      Plus the OBD blocker, so.. I have done all I can at this point. If they want to tow it, nothing I can do about it.

      Peace of mind. I have keyless entry turned off due to the prevalence of keyless relay attacks and the keys are always secured.

    • @GBR9794
      @GBR9794 ปีที่แล้ว

      not just that, the issue is there will always be a keyhole left by manufacturers for emergency mechanical locks. thief opens the door by picking the key, plugging computers into your obd2 port, reprogramming the key to theirs, and driving off really fast.

    • @radiohead2206
      @radiohead2206 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also don't leave the Faraday Box/key at the front door. Now they are breaking into the house to get the key.
      Practice what you would do in case someone tries to rob you. You say, okay sir you can have the car let me get out and give you the key. But before you leave, shut off the car. Then run as far as possible. Car's not going anywhere!

    • @Jake-yy9fg
      @Jake-yy9fg 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      surely you would combine this with a steering lock and a RFID blocking key pouch. you can't just rely on one thing.

    • @THEMAKERSH3D
      @THEMAKERSH3D  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately that’s not possible. Any diagnostic port is pointless as the vehicle and ECU is not aware of the ghost module.

      Same question. You mean the actual unit? Which he explained is hidden somewhere in the car. If the thief even knew that was why it didn't go into gear (why would they?), then starts to think of taking the dash apart with no tools to look for that unit and no other (30mins-2hours?) then actually finds it, to then try and bypass it, sure. By that time I think any alarm system could be overriden.
