T-Mobile is likely the most classic cell phone provider of the early 2000s as virtually everyone is familiar with their iconic ringtone. But, with the introduction of smartphones and stronger competition within the cellular market, T-Mobile got crushed and quickly fell towards irrelevancy. In fact, things got so bad that they were basically going to get bailed out by AT&T in the early 2010s. But, suddenly their entire situation changed when they got a new CEO, John Legere. Instead of trying to hide the differences of T-Mobile, John decided to embrace them by making T-Mobile the uncarrier. For example, T-Mobile didn’t have a contract with Apple to offer their phones at reduced prices. So, T-Mobile simply offered iPhones at MSRP and embraced how they don’t have any strings attached or any hidden fees. Given that much of the population was fed up with the antics of AT&T and Verizon, many people gave T-Mobile a chance. Let’s just say T-Mobile used this olive branch to the absolute max. This video explains the rise, fall, and rise again of T-Mobile.

@Kelvis Nouel I sure hope so. I’ve been very happy with my phone plan for the last 8 years. I used to cringe when I heard people had T-Mobile back then. The only reason why I gave them a chance and switch was because of John. Don’t know much about the new CEO but I hope he keeps up John’s spirit.

I'm not as big a fan of the newer CEO bc John seemed to go REALLY far in bashing the other companies who acted stupid silent and smug about it. My channel, Twitter, Instagram, etc. is partially inspired by him and I coukd only dream of his endorcement.
I worked for T-Mobile back when the buy out was happening. One false step they made was not accepting the 1st iphone exclusively when it was offered by Steve Jobs originally.

@@LogicallyAnswered I can't say he did personally, but T-Mobile was offered basically the same deal as AT&T. Thought this was common knowledge. I was a part of a sales team in south FL, that used a prototype iPhones for a few Days in an office to get our opinions on the phone.
Yes, AT&T was not Jobs first choice and AT&T were reluctant to sign. T-Mobile was approached and turned down the offer.

T-mobile is a great example of how focusing on a quality honest product will always win in the long term against aggressive short term revenue generation.
They dont deluver quality and arent honest, at least in germany. Youll pay for 100 mbits but you will get 30-60 on regular bases. Also the price is still pretty high at most places.
@@BaguetteRaucher People pay for Xfinity (ISP) in America and they’ll give you a supposed 500mbps cap, but the router only outputs like 350mbps. Cannot tell if it’s the equipment or what. Ethernet is still faster though.

@@MrAngenos I don't think so. Generally, it has been shown that competition lowers prices, to prove this Rogers, Telus, and Bell all have lower prices in Saskatchewan thanks to a regional provider known as "SaskTel"

I've been w/T-mobile since 2008. I bought the original iPhone & of course the only mobile service option was AT&T. After a year of their nickel & dime-ing shenanigans I did some research & discovered T-mobile also utilized GSM. Since I bought my phone outright from Apple it was unlocked. My researched revealed the phone should technically work on T-mobile's network if it was unlocked. There were many success stories of people doing so. So I went to a T-mobile store in Atlanta explained what I wanted to do. The staff were reluctant it would work but were willing try. They swapped out the AT&T SIM w/a T-mobile then powered up the iPhone. Sure enough it connected & began working. We were all surprised. I became a loyal T-mobile customer that day & never looked back. The service was not best originally; But it has improved exponentially since that time. T-mobile has the best customer service & I NEVER had any surprised charges. John Legere is a BOMB CEO!!!
@@thecwwshow8036 agreed, I made the mistake of trying T-mobile 4-5 years ago. Service was garbage and data was comically worse than Verizon almost everywhere I went in the US outside of big cities
I'm right there with you. I have had every service you can possibly have from the big players. From Cingular wireless, to metro piece of s. To verizon to ATT to tmobile.
From my years of experience Verizon has the best reception when it comes to CALLS. But their service sucked here in Cali for Data. T Mobile does so much better in data, here in So Cal and I mean like all of socal. From Kern County all the way to San Diego T Mobile destroys Verizon when it comes to data.
My thought is this. If you need reliable signal to call with a service that won't drop calls, get Verizon. For sure Verizon is the best for that. If you use data more and rely on the internet more T Mobile is a no Brainer. This is my though for SoCal only. Idk about anywhere else.

and that's not even a debate. I thought that former sprint CEO Dan Hesse was gonna turn it around, but the sprint stock holders pushed him out and didn't allow him to do what he wanted to do.

Been with TMO from the first or second year it was a brand in the US. Best customer service, best rates, best everything (except coverage). TMO lacks some coverage, but they sure as sht make up for it with free almost everything. While everyone I knew had to buy a local SIM card while traveling, my TMO phone worked in every country I have visited without any extra fees.
It is funny to read this, because in their home country Germany they are the absolut opposite. Best coverage and network speed, a lot of hotspots on public places, but like 10x more expensive then other providers. It is a brand for old people who are not change something which has worked for them fine for years...
Jokes on you their coverage is great I get service mostly everywhere I go coming from a OTR Truck driver.
A local SIM card is still not a bad choice. Eg. If one of my relatives want to visit the US a local SIM card would be less expensive than roaming on their Taiwanese SIM. Also,for longer stays it's a better choice because when a SIM card is roaming the time it takes to connect between the roaming and home provider has significant latency which can be much slower than local servers.
@@900Yugo a local sim is almost always better. Or at least some kinda of data hotspot. Tmobile is fine and really good for calling and texting abroad, but you’re only allowed so much data before it MASSIVELY slows down and in today’s world you don’t want to be caught in unfamiliar territory with data so slow it’s virtually unusable.

Been a T-Mobile customer in the UK for years. Sad that T-Mobile doesn't exist in the UK anymore.
My parents have been on Tmobile for as long as I can remember so I was put on their plan when I got my first phone. Initially, the service really did suck. I even called it trash mobile. Couldn't go through buildings and the service was basically non existent anywhere outside city limits. However, they had treated us well and allowed me to constantly upgrade through the jump program. It is night and day now, however, how much better the service is now after so many years.
They do have a lot of spectrum now, low band and mid band.

I had T-mobile back in early 2012 and it sucked I mean it was awful and then once he became CEO you knew that he was gonna turn it around and make it better, but now it's gotten to a point where Verizon customers wanna leave and go to T-mobile and nobody ever thought that would ever happen. I'm an AT&T guy and even I get tempted to switch.

@@egal1780 nah I worked for Deutsche Post DHL in germany for 1.5 years, their Jobs are the best an unskilled worker can get here. And their Service is also not beaten by other companies
well, no. Both Deutsche Telekom and Deutsche Post have been succesfull before the privatization as well, and generally needed less fuckery with the customer to be profitable. Even after the "privatization" (when most of the shares were still held by the government) had state-enforced monpolies for quite some time, Deutsche Telekom had a complete monopoly for another 3 years and in some segments far longer, Deutsche Post lost their letter-carrying monopoly only in 2008. Today, the German state, directly and indirectly, still 30% of DT and 20% of DP. And both companies have massively profited off cheap companies in Eastern Europe that were sold massively under value in the years after 1998.
I work at Deutsche Post as a postman and it's the worst job I've ever had. Tours that are way too long, lots of packages and they always overload us like donkeys. Every day we must take an extra street or two from another tour to deliver. I wake up at 5 a.m to start work at 7 a.m only to finish at 5 p.m. Also, in Berlin there are buildings without mailboxes so you have to run up and down the stairs to deliver mail. And this shitty company doesn't want to increase our salaries for about 15%. It's just a shitty, greedy company and I dream of the day I'll finally be able to quit.

I’ve used T-Mobile for over a year now, and the rest of my family used to be sprint but are now in T-Mobile as well (the acquisition). I’ve had no issues, great coverage and speeds, and everyone that I know that has T-Mobile agrees with me
Used Verizon for 4 years and would frequently go over my data limits. One night while scrolling Facebook, I saw an add with Jon Ledger talking about getting rid of data buckets and that's when I decided to switch. I'll have an issue with the company once in a while, but I'm a happy TMo customer 👍

Ten years ago, I switched 1 phone on Verizon to 5 phones on T-Mobile. I had more data, unlimited calls, and text (both limited on Verizon), and the cost was almost the same (5 phones for the price of one). Service was pretty crappy but good enough for my family and me. T-Mobile has definitely gotten better over the years and became notably better with the acquisition of Sprint. I just returned from a 2,000-mile road trip from the midwest to the southwest. I had a signal almost everywhere, including on rural roads.
My carrier is Deutsche Telekom and it’s quite funny to see how t-mobile is a budget carrier in the US while Deutsche Telekom is the most high end carrier in Germany

I always go for them on roaming if I‘m in the Netherlands, they are also the only carrier offering 5G on roaming (for me).
I've been with T Mobile since I got my first Nokia in Germany back in 2004. And it's crazy to think I've been with them all these years. Never had a reason to switch to Verizon or AT&T.
I worked on the team to roll out T-Mobile 5G and I have to say it was a massive network. It was by far the largest project I have worked on in 30 years in Telecom.

T-Mobile USA is the first in the world to use 600MHz spectrum. That alone is amazing.
For many T-mobile may be unaffordable. The company is credit heavy and when they say you get a free phone it really isn't free. But otherwise, the international calling features is competitive.
The video didn't seem to mention that T-Mobile didn't walk away with nothing when the AT&T and T-Mobile merger failed. In fact, T-Mobile got a few billion and spectrum.
The cash and, more importantly, the spectrum allowed T-Mobile to have a better network and have similar spectrum with AT&T to allow some previously AT&T-only compatible phones to work finally with T-Mobile which includes the AT&T iPhone 5 (iirc) which was then limited to 2G when used with T-Mobile. This is crucial as differences in frequency band support between AT&T and T-Mobile made it harder than usual to switch between the two (while retaining the same device) despite both being GSM-based networks.
I have Metro, a TMobile company. Unlimited data on 2 lines for $80/mth & really good service.

Metro is no longer a T-Mobile company. They are separate now. They been like that for like years. But metro still uses T-Mobile towers so they kept the T-Mobile name. Soon they will completely remove name and just keep as MetroPCS.
@@riickyworld1 No, Metro was one of the few "other" brands that TMobile kept when they merged with Sprint.
T-Mobile had a terrible network because they were only on 1900mhz for the longest time. The legacy carriers AT&T and Verizon had 800/850mhz spectrum in addition to 1900mhz. The lower frequencies penetrate walls better allowing for better indoor reception. One of the big complaints about T-Mo's (and other PCS1900 carriers) is how terrible it was getting coverage indoors. To compound that, T-Mo also did not have a lot of 1900mhz spectrum leading to network congestion. Their purchase of Sprint was not so much to gain customers as it was to gain more spectrum ( 1900mhz, 2500mhz, and a bit of 850mhz) to expand capacity. Other carriers did the same. AT&T did not purchase Leap Wireless (marketed under the Cricket Wireless brand) for their customers but for their rights to radio spectrum. Heck, they actually hated picking up the customers as they would lower AT&T's ARPU (average revenue per user) metrics. In the years that followed, T-Mobile was very aggressive in acquiring more RF capacity as the US government allocated more spectrum for mobile networks. They picked up large blocks of 1700/2100mhz and 600mhz (from the shutdown of analog TV) in FCC auctions. T-Mobile even purchased blocks of 700mhz from Verizon.
I switched to T-Mobile from AT&T a few months ago after doing their free trial. Their5G speed is quite impressive in the Washington DC area.

I’ve been with T-Mobile for over 4 years now and actually happy with them. Any and every time I ever call my problem is fixed. I also have their home Internet and I’m absolutely happy with that as well. I play GTA5 on my ps5 and no lag at all😊
being blocked by DOJ was probably the best thing ever, Mobil is way better then AT&T in my opinion. I'm biased since my household is all on tmobil. I love the free Netflix and Apple TV + as well as the unlimited 5G then 4G after you exceed the limit. Not to mention the great price and value, and the Gogo Wifi in the plane and unlimited data in 215+ countries. all for what I pay $35 a month for 3 lines.
I‘m living in Germany and Deutsche Telekom has by far the best mobile connection speeds. I‘m getting 1 Gbit with my iPhone in my home town, which is crazy. The other two carriers can only deliver about 30-50 Mbit.

It's funny that T-Mobile is considered cheap in the us since here in Germany it is always considered as overpriced. They even made a commercial recently to convince people that you don't have to be rich for a T-Mobile contract. 😅

I recommend T-Mobile to everyone. I love my phone but I love my carrier more. I switched from Verizon 6 years ago and have not had a single day since where I ever thought that I would go back. Top tier customer service, value, free add-ons, global roaming (free in almost any major 1st world country) and of course that TMobile jingle pre installed and preloaded onto every phone I buy 😂❤️
They robbed and scammed me and my father who never owned a cell phone in his entire life.

The only thing I could compare T-Mobile to in Canada would be a carrier called Freedom Mobile. They built their network from the ground up and exist to lower phone prices. They have a reputation for having a small and crappy network, but when you get to an area with a good connection it's fast as frick. They are the smallest carrier in Canada.

I've had T-Mobile for something like 13 years now. Have had their HSI Home INternet since they offered it as a 4g service for about 4 years. In the Ohio / Akron market, my Home Intnernet peaks up to 700 Mbps, I get 60 Mbps upload regularly. Sometimes at 8pm on a rainy Sunday I'll drop to a lowly 450 Mbps. (lol) Total of 3 lines + home internet, bill is 160 a month. Can't complain. Their network started to get much better around 2015 if memory serves.Then once the SPrint purchase happened... let's just say in this area with the addition of n41 and b25 from the Sprint Portfolio, with their already stacked PCS/AWS bands at Band 2 and 66, I get excellent coverage all over.
That ringtone of the 2000s is mine today. I guess it's time to change it😅

I was one of the loyal customers of T-Mobile having started in year 2002 here in Hawaii. I never jumped ship because there are many things that they offer which you can't find in other networks.

Not true, Verizon still has larger overall coverage. T-Mobile is still behind in many states, it’s getting much better. But some states are still mostly roaming. It should be even better soon.

Sodas Verizon in the sticks so T-Mobile still has work to do. As far as putting more coverage which they really haven't ever ever since. The add that merger with Sprint. 2 or 3 years ago. I've had them and I left them. They stink so you can keep them. But I'm just saying they promised this. They promised that, but they're raising everything just like everything. So I don't see it as AA nice way to charge a customer more money a month. So it doesn't surprise me. I would help that there would go bankrupt.
And they are reducing their stores which they will lay off thousands of people. Of jobs, is it right now? But that's the problem when they stop it. Make more money, it's all greed.
I just hope. They get sued for overtcharging the customer. And why do you have to upgrade your phone every year? That's ridiculous, it doesn't need it, but again they have people blind. Especially the older people. They think they getting a good deal, they're not. Nothing, personal, just my comet.

I was on att for the iPhone, I had unlimited data. My wife got a phone but at that time they only had tiered plans. She was going over every month. In order for her to upgrade I had to as well and I would end up paying more for less data. I went over to T-Mobile about 7 years ago and couldn’t be happier. Every step of the way they have taken care of me and add value. Good video.

Funny that here in Germany Deutsche Telekom is like AT&T. Expensive, abusive and very lacking in rural areas
it's because they were the first to put up the infrastructure in their respective places.
I had 4G everywhere on Telekom, while everyone else was complaining about dead-zones on VF/O2.
They are expensive, but much better than O2 and cheaper than Vodafone.

Yea, DTAG has quite a lot of issues and even tried to monopolize smaller networks who wanted fair peering by charging them. I mean that's how any giant company works I guess, if they have to grow, they'll do anything. So they might be "nice" in the US but definitely not in the EU

I was a T-Mobile fanatic back in 2012 when they announced the "uncarrier" movement. Lol those were some good times. Then I bounced to MetroPCS which was later acquired by you guessed it. Ever since then I been a happy camper. Metro By T-Mobile has yet to let me down.

Have you tried changing to Apn settings and turning on background restrictions on your apps it eats up your data forcing the cell tower you're nearest to not send/receive as much data.

How could you fail to mention their acquisition of metro PCS? That was a MAJOR reason for their turnaround
Only thing missing was how the Sidekick model was the basis for the iPhone.. Consumer focused smartphone, one company creating hardware and software, no carrier intervention, and exclusivity to one carrier.. They even had the first appstore..
Honestly, Apple has always been about exclusivity, proprietary, and to some degree, luxury. The Sidekick's main market were teenagers and young adults. It was rad, hip, cool, etc. It was a phone yes, but it also came with AOL AIM messenger (which was very popular back in the days), some games, a pretty weak web browser but for that time, it was acceptable, and the innovative flip out keyboard. The young people were attracted to AOL AIM and the thumb pressing keyboard. The original iPhone's main market were executives and professionals. For many, it was unaffordable. It cost a whopping $700 and required a 1 or 2 year contract with AT&T, plus a credit check was necessary. It was considered a luxury phone at the time. Once Samsung came out with the much cheaper Galaxy and Android OS, the smarphone market exploded, and Apple had to adjust and retarget the iPhone to the average consumer.

I can't deny that T-Mobile's marketing is top notch, and that they did all of humanity a favor when they basically killed contracts for the whole industry, but I do have to say that their stock is ludicrously overpriced. Their revenue growth since the "merger" is basically flat, they make very little in the way of profit, they pay no dividend, do no buybacks(in fact they've increased share counts), and their debt is slowly creeping up to T and VZ's levels. I'm not sure what people see in the stock itself to allow it to be valued at ~60x earnings. That's Tesla crazy.

The debt is from the 5g competition. They clobbered T and Vz, who are in worse shape. Expectation is revenue coming from 5g services. But yeah, PE of 66 in this market environment is peculiar.
Technically when you think about it, if you lease a phone for 36 months that’s basically like a contract. You can’t cancel your service until the device is paid off. When I was on a 2 year contract I had to pay $199.99 for the newest devices then be with them for two years. The two-year contract lets you buy an expensive phone at a inexpensive subsidized price of $199. the cost of the phone is added into your monthly fee. If you cancel your service before the contract expires you would be charged a early termination fee.
Don’t be fooled. They still do contracts. They just changed a few things around to make it seem like it isn’t a contract.
@@Johnbbotc I stopped leasing phones the second you could buy your own and take them anywhere. You can buy newish used phones in the 200 range or less these days, nobody should at this point willingly do a lease agreement if they have an option not to. I'm sure it still happens, but it's extremely easy these days to avoid a contract.
I’ve been with T-Mobile since 2014. I was with Sprint before that. I have nothing but love for the company for trying to please us. I have all my Apple devices financed from T-Mobile no questions ever asked

You completely skipped over covering the fact that if not for T-Mobile, android woudlnt have grown to what it is. Since T-Mobile couldn’t get the iPhone, they took a huge bet on android especially with the launch of the first android phone and then kept growing it

I switched to T-Mobile back around 2015 and haven't looked back since. I live in New Brunswick, NJ and here at home I get 208Mbps downloads on 5G. Of course, when my phone is connected through WiFi to my Verizon FiOS connection, I see download speeds of 373Mbps.
I never used them but those type of companies will always stay in business!!

To be honest, I'm really glad they were able to bring the "un-carrier" mentality to home internet with 5G. I got tired of dealing with the cable company and have a viable alternative now. Is gigabit fiber faster? Sure. But most people don't actually need that and just don't want to get ripped off.
I'm rocking Google Fi. They did the strangest thing Around May of 2022. They cut the price and increased the cap of unthrottled speed on the unlimited plan. This is right in the middle of when inflation started to rage. And with no effort - they just improved.
One little thing they do: they break the law by including the taxes in their monthly charge. It's supposed to be added on top. That's illegal. Every month they take exactly $50 from my bank account. Exactly $50. Simple. And i love it.

I had T-Mobile for years never had an issue. I currently have AT&T, my friend got Metro (T-Mobile) and their was an few places in the desert of Arizona he got service, and I didn’t.

Tmo service has become much better. Value, service, i have no complaints. Been very happy since i switched.
Has t mobile for a few years, but has to switch away in 2011 due to lack of signal in many places I frequented, same with my mom. Sounds like they did a great job growing, and may be able to switch back.

I have been with T-Mobile for 17 years I didn't realize that T-Mobile was considered so bad. Before that I had Verizon in my apt., I was always having dropped calls and the straw that broke the camel's back was when I was on a service call with some company waited on hold for a half hour and as soon as I got a rep on the phone the call got dropped, I was done. I called Verizon right after that said disconnect my service right now then threw the phone against the wall not the most mature thing to do. 17 years later T-Mobile is still the only carrier that can give me reliable service where I live.
I began with AT&T, and left after 2 years.
I then took a chance by choosing T-Mobile and have been with them ever since
I was originally a VoiceStream customer when they were bought out. Their customer service was awesome even after the switch. I never had the issues other did and I’ve been a customer ever since. I’ve been there so long there’s even a special note on my account when any reps pull up the account I’m always thanked at the beginning for being a long time valued customer. I can only say things have only gotten way better since the beginning.
So was I. I remember those days of throwing the phone around and forgetting about it. T-mobile eventually got better over the years. I'm glad I stuck with them.

I had T-Mobile 4 years ago and I never had a problem I had service everywhere I went customer service was awesome prices were low and everyone was happy only problem was I got arrested and I had 3 phones I was financing I am now in debt to T-Mobile so I have Verizon

I have alot of tmobile towers all over where i live but my service was so bad each time i tried them for cell service . Their data slows down alot in my area. I gave up on them after 3 tries. I hate their service so much!
I've had T-mobile since i graduated high school in 2004! and honestly, i can only remember a couple times where they pissed me off. other than that its been pretty smooth. I'm very happy with them and the service for me was never bad(other than some rough patches). but maybe its because i never left the cities.

I switched to T-Mobile after getting their 5G Home Internet, and could not be happier.
I have been a t mobile customer for a long time, after being a Verizon victim. I thought the sound quality was better, but there were a few dead spots near my house. Anyway, I have been pretty pleased for a long time, only a few bumps on the road. Now they offer 5G for the home so it might be time to quit being a cable victim.
Our whole family switched to T- Mobile after a decade of Verizon. Couldn't be happier.
