1930 FORD FORDOR 4-DOOR SEDAN
“ORAL” HISTORY BACK TO 1930
OWNED BY ORIGINAL FAMILY FOR OVER 50 YEARS (Prior to current owner)
FRAME-OFF RESTORATION IN 2007
FUN TO “DRIVE & SHOW”
GENERAL BACKGROUND
Ford’s world record sales of the Model T ended in 1927. Following in December of 1927 was the long-awaited introduction of the Model A. It was a dramatic departure from the previous T, and featured a standard set of driver controls for the first time. The engine was a water-cooled L-head four cylinder unit with 40 horsepower. It was spartan, with such niceties as a rear-view mirror or heater optional at extra cost! Prices started at just $500 for the Tudor model. It was so well received that three million Models A’s were sold by March 1930. The model A has the distinction of being the first car made with a Safety-glass windshield.
THIS CAR’S HISTORY
This Model A has an interesting family/friend history. It reportedly was originally purchased by Leland Rhodes in Cooperstown, ND. When he died, it was inherited by his granddaughter. The car spent about 50 years with the granddaughter and her husband before being sold to the current owner’s father. A frame-off restoration was completed in 2007, and extensive records are shown in this listing and will be included with the car. Among the restoration highlights are installation of new Safety Glass on all windows (except one rear quarter window), new wide-whitewall tires, new inner tubes, and a special bearing in the steering box for easier steering.
OPERATIONALS
As the Facebook Marketplace video will show (as well as 3 other TH-cam Videos linked below) this Fordor example runs well and is a lot of fun to drive. The car’s headlights, running lights, and brake lights are in good working order. Note that there are no directionals as these were not installed as factory equipment in any cars until 1939. Electrically, this is a 6-Volt vehicle. An improved water pump was installed to help ensure efficient cooling.
PURCHASE DETAILS: The purchaser will receive a clear Georgia Title. Payment may be made by bank to bank wire transfer or CASH…NO Checks.
Title Note: Until recently, Georgia did not title cars older than the 1962 model year - the year that Georgia first began issuing auto titles. The state recently began to issue “Conditional Titles” upon request for all cars before 1962. We noticed a typographical error on this Model A’s Conditional Title that is in the process of being corrected/re-issued.
LOCATION: Brookhaven, GA (approx. 11 miles from Atlanta, GA)
A SOLIDLY COLLECTIBLE AUTOMOBILE…the Model A is one of the most historic of all cars and will forever enjoy a place in important private and public collections all over the world.
ABOUT ME: After retiring from 30 years of sales and marketing in a Global 100 company, I began buying and selling classic cars as a collector. I also sometimes market classic and collectible cars for friends and clients. This classic belongs to a fellow classic car enthusiast and collector.
ODOMETER: The indicated mileage of 94,966 on the odometer is impossible to verify due to the mechanical limitations of the odometer and the lack of records dating back to 1930. Therefore, the indicated mileage is not warranted or guaranteed to be accurate.
IMPORTANT FINAL REMARKS & CONDITIONS OF SALE...
This Vehicle is sold strictly on a final and AS-IS basis without any warranties expressed or implied. Even the very best restored classics will require additional maintenance and service - often without warning. Therefore, please expect to continue - as the new owner and caretaker of this classic - to perform additional maintenance and repairs. We hope that you are able to enjoy the Ford Forder without the need for an immediate repair - but understand that this indeed could be found necessary. As seasoned collectors know, every time you start (or attempt to start) a collectible vehicle is a new experience...it could be a wonderful ride, or a new repair to undertake. That is the nature of the hobby, and this classic should not be purchased if you are not prepared for this reality. We have presented the car accurately to the best of our ability, but oversights are possible…so we invite pre-purchase examination for serious buyers. All sales are final.
Due to age (and the fact that it has only been driven locally in recent years) - it is recommended that it be transported to its new owner’s locale.
