Unironically, you can use either of those and your opponent will likely shield more. You can cast Oomph/Psych Up and never actually go for an attack, just grab. Or you could use that time to cycle through your spells, charge up Kafrizz, etc. You could always just immediately go on the offensive of course, but knowing how and when to mix it up is tricky.
The Magic Cancel thing isn't new and can be done with most charge moves (Charge Shot, Robin Thunder, Giant Punch, etc.) You can also cancel it into a dash. It's pretty cool that Hero can do it with menu though.

I think the most technical part about him is knowing how to manipulate the RNG of the Menu. Every 3rd open of the menu you have almost guaranteed the move that you want, and knowing how to select it and expect that it is there is the biggest part of playing him. I always try to manipulate how to have Zoom offstage, by opening the menu and checking where I have Zoom there or not. The more it doesn't show, the more guaranteed it is to show when I'm offstage and when I want it. Except for Magic Burst or Kamikaze, the other moves can be arranged for them to show almost whenever we want.
if this is the case then swapping menus as early as possible or whenever you get the chance will yield you almost always the right one when you need it. ive played hero a bunch of times with using the menu only for specific cases get me nowhere as opposed to seing people play around often with the menu and i gotta this made a lot of sense

After you get used to the mechanic you can actually almost predict what you are going to get the next time you open it, since they get increased odds. For Kaboom I can get it pretty consistently because of that. Getting Oomph and Psyche Up is also easier this way.

I learned this by my own when i tried discovering everything he could do at launch! Also... i recommend remembering the magic or specials as the number it deducts from your mp so the name becomes second nature. Learn to read skim and basic adding and subtracting aswell if that helps lol

He's a great character plagued with horrible frame data. After the release of Mythra, I don't see the logic of this anymore (that mu is horrible for him btw). Sakurai really needs to stop hammering fighters that rely on gimmicks with bad weaknesses.

It's not new, but very unknown, you can also do this technique with neutral b's like Mewt2's or Lucario's and so on
basically any charge move that you can double jump cancel, doesn't have to be a neutral b.

you didnt menton that you can cast your down b spells in both directions if you use the cstick to select your attack
C stick isn't necessary. Just hold the control stick in the desired direction on cast.

You should realize, the menu and neutralB cancels are actually possible with a light shield input. So it doesn't require you to double jump.

You can do the lag cancel thing with any proyectile that charges, like m2 shadow ball
1:55 beefy smash doods made a video about this awhile back called "charge jump cancel" mewtwo, lucario, Robin and few others can do it
