      And he is not allowed to die until he appears in Infinity Wars Part 2 and confirms everyone's theory that he is, in fact, playing Uatu.
      And if Marvel DOESN'T do that, I would like to offer complimentary pitchforks and torches for when we go burn down the studio.

    Agreed..to a point. Jack Kirby was not "media material", he was by nature shy and was always hunched over his table, too busy to talk about how great he was. Stan and Jack were a team, but Kirby was left in the dust when it comes to being reimbursed for his hard work.

      Both have hits and misses - Christopher Reeves Superman really set the table for future comic book movies to me. The first two Batman's were good, The Dark Knight was awesome, and I enjoyed Wonder Woman and Man of Steel. As for Marvel, they had a spectacular run and so did Spider-Man and the X-Men series but they had their share of duds too. As long as I get a good movie on a DC or Marvel character I'm happy.

      Actually I'm collecting the old Marvel omnibuses from the glory days when Stan, Jack Kirby, Ditko, and Romita Sr. to name a few were all working at Marvel. If you look at the drawings of some of the people they drew ie: Howard Stark during that time period the faces on the pages look eerily familiar to a young Stan Lee as you see him here. I don't think it's a stretch that they did 'cameos' for some of the other artists and writers at Timely/Marvel.

    @ag5 I suppose we'll just have to disagree. I think that Stan has made a huge contribution to the world of comics and has been creative, important, and collaborative. This is from many interviews I have read over the past 30 years. To say that he didn't create a thing for Marvel is a pretty bold statement and one that I have seen no evidence to support. He created and co-created many characters. Not saying Jack doesn't deserver much credit - love his work too.

    • @sinjinbaker6031

  • @rockabye274
    @rockabye274 13 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    @PSParama Thank you for being the reasonable one. Stan created or co-created many great characters. During the Sixties he was writing Fantastic Four, Hulk, DareDeviI, Iron Man, Spider-man, X-Men, Thor and others simultaneously. Marvel was struggling before Stan came along. He opened up the creative process to the artists which revolutionized the business. It doesn't mean the writers (now or then) sit on their butts while the artists do all of the work, though. It's a collaborative process.

    His voice changed a little as he aged but even if you weren't told in the title of this video that it was Stan Lee it is clearly Stan Lee. The man pretty much remained unchanged through the years... I'm showing my age but my love for Spider-Man started the year of this interview (I was 3). I watched the 1967 classic cartoon and mom bought me the odd Spidey comic at a convenience store called Mike's Milk after a trip to the beach and I would read them in the backyard, take them camping... Marvel and Spider-Man were a fond memory of childhood. In later years, I finally got to put a name and face to the guy talking to me through the pages with dialogue and famous quotes like 'nuff said' and 'Excelsior!' - RIP Stan thanks for the great memories bud.

    I love his comment on Gwen Stacy. For me spider-man's story ends with issue 99, the last one he fully wrote. And it's a good one, Peter got a steady official job, almost graduated from ESU and is about to propose to Gwen, as they were separated for some time and now got back together. This, for me, concludes the story of this teenager who called himself spider-MAN in the beginning of his career and became a MAN by this point.
    It makes total sense for him to be with Gwen. Betty was too nervous whenever some excitement happened, and she had her reasons, but Peter wasn't the right man for her. Mary-Jane proved to be loose party-girl who will go out with anyone, but give her heart to no one. And she didn't have much in common with Peter. But Gwen... Science major, smart girl, with respect for men in uniform who risk their lives to help civilians. She is perfect for Peter. And knowing that Gwen's character was heavily inspired by Joan Lee, it would make total sense to pair her with his most successful and most favorite character.
    So in a way, Marvel universe starts and ends with Stan's writing. While I appreciate wide-spread love for these characters and their portrayal in modern media, almost none of them represent his original vision, none of them are accurate enough to the source material. Sure, few suit designs could be updated, but there really is no reason to otherwise alter the characters.
    That's why I advise every one who considers self a fan of Stan's creations - buy a couple of Omnibus collections of 60s comicbooks, you won't be disappointed. Those comics stand the test of time, like none other.

    @ag5 Wrong. You have no idea about how stories were written at Marvel if you make a statement like this. Read interviews with Kirby, Ditko, etc. It is true that artists were treated poorly, but that doesn't make Stan a "snake". There are hundreds of articles and interviews with various artists and there were many pros and cons to working at Marvel, but to insinuate that Stan just "put his name" on other people's work is uninformed.

    I feel that DC, generally speaking was very stilted through the 60's - While Marvel was fresh, exciting & developing their books - all had a better continuity going as well. Not to mention their artists whom many book fans all know & love. When I look through my SA DC's you don't always see too many book credits on the splash page.
    60's comics is all about Marvel.

    Stan IS the Man. He's brought so much entertainment and joy to my life. And, yes, Messrs. Ditko, Kirtby, Romita (Sr. AND Jr.) and all the others deserve credit too. But not Joe Quesada. One More Day sucked.
