    Very talented songwriters and performers who spoke to a generation. We didn't realise how lucky we were in the late 70's and early 80's to have so many great bands around at the same time..... the specials, the beat and the jam, to mention just three. Nutty boys forever!

    Three superb bands never really cracked it here in the States: the Move, the Jam, and especially these guys.

    • @RatelHBadger
      @RatelHBadger ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Madness working class malaise they often sing about doesn't really translate well to the States. I think because it's a very "British" thing to do, to just carry on trudging and not complain. Out if some weird "mustn't complain about my lot" thing. In the States you just buck up your ideas and work harder or something.
      The more upbeat songs Our House or It Must Be Love probably translated as they are more universal.
      Dunno, just a thought anyway.

      I can hear the grass grow...that's all I can remember of Move, though I did see them live as support group for Jimi Hendrix I believe at Brighton Dome. Jam? Who were they? or was it Marmalade? Madness was the only decent band to emerge after mid 70's, and they are still the only ones. Today's music is ' NOT '.

      One of my favourite bands when I was young. Must have been about 8 (years and years after they were big) and they made me realise that music was about more than the bollocks in the top 40.

      I remember the singles coming out one after another and thinking, They've done it again - another great record. They were pretty much in another league to everyone else and I was genuinely sad when they broke up - like, Don't go!!!

    à cette époque, il y avait 3,5 million de chômeurs en grande Bretagne.
    Ces groupes, specials, madness,jam ou squeeze étaient très en phase avec
    leur époque.

    If "Ghost Town" was the Specials opus, with its dark themes that spoke volumes which captured the times, then "Grey Day" was an opus for Madness that also captured the same themes and the mundane bleakness we felt in that time of our lives..

    Concordo con gli ascoltatori di questa imbattibile Band !!! . . Tra i brani dei Madnees, questo è uno dei più fantastici , puro genio musicale , . . E quanti strumenti o effetti , in una grande e unica armonia, in un susseguirsi di atmosfere una diversa dall'altra, anche rock 😊 . . . non c'è niente da fare, l'elevato punteggio di questo brano mi fa pensare che si comincia a 'invecchiare' molto, molto presto 😂😂. . indimenticabili.
    Non comprendo il testo, in quanto ignorante operaio, però credo abbia più un intento 'serio' , e questi Musicisti ,insieme al video ... fecero un capolavoro.

    So much memorable music from the late 70's and early 1980's. I was in my teens then so it made a big impression. Possibly a sign of middle age but is any memorable popular music made now?
