Great video with soul, atmosphere, production and great presentation. Never went to Defonte's in Brooklyn, but their old location in Manhattan on 21st & Third was unbelievable and sorely missed. Great food and even better people. the rare roast beef & eggplant was the treat of treats.
That potato & egg thing is a true Italian Friday night deal growing up with the homemade lentil soup… that food is the real deal. Coming from an Italian the area doing it correct 🙏🏽🙏🏽
How did I ever miss this in all my decades in Brooklyn? The sandwich shop in Bensonhurst was Lioni's, which has been my go to place for years, but now I gotta hit Defonte's. The steak pizzaiol' got me goin', and potatoes and eggs for breakfast brings back memories.
As a born and bread (no pun intended) Bensonhurst kid, with a father who grew up in Redhook, Defontes is MILES ahead of Lioni’s. It’s untouched, it’s super well known and yet still hidden. It’s absolutely one of the best places on the east coast IMO.
All right it's about time you came to Brooklyn like I said before bro come to Brooklyn and you have a lot of good food the front a is my old stomping grounds peace loving soul brother man thank you
One of my favorites! I love this shop. I always get the firehouse.. roast pork, fried 🍆, 🥦 rabe, and provolone. It's to die for. 😋 So consistently fresh, and tasty.
I'm appreciating your words regarding the beautiful bread 🥖 and also your joy with regards to the sandwiches, that roast beef especially... A great sandwich, it's a love thing... 🥪 😊 ❤ 🌻
It's because he is a lot more niche than most food vloggers. He focusses on mom and pop restaurants in the Northeast primarily and he has a hip hop / singing / comedy / movie skit angle to his channel which is very specific. It caters to older people who grew up on 90s hip hop and rnb, movies etc and good local unknown restaurants. Very specific audience.
@@FunkyChild718 I'm from Southern Africa and follow this man.learnt about chopped cheese n making the same hoagies. Yeah niche but if you like your chow you can appreciate this man's reviews.
Glad you made the trip Bro. I'm one of the ones that put you on Defonte's. The line used to U around the store and out the door at lunchtime. If you got to the counter and didn't know what you wanted... problems for you. That place is sandwich paradise.
I truly enjoy your reviews. I grew up near Red Hook and you bring me home w these bodega & food videos. You bring me home each video. Thank you for all you do. Stay blessed🦋✨
You gave this place’s a great review on about who’s behind make the food so great.what start in the family ,you keep it in the family, and keep it for the next generation. The food looks great fresh ingredients flavor, and everything is made with love and heart.
Jl your getting so good at these videos. You are light years better than when i first started following you. I can tell youve been reading and doing yiur homework. The line you used was excellent. "A harmonious sandwich, all the ingredients play their role." Excellent!
JL happy new year. Lol looks like you where fighting say game changer lol digging the new platform and growth looking forward to seeing you reach a million plus subscribers 😀.
Tiff, it’s like stew, but it’s with a tomato base as opposed to a beef broth type base. Steak Pizziola is a traditional Italian stewed beef usually cooked with plumb tomatos and onion for hours in its own juices to make that thin oily but savory juice/sauce they use. The cheese help to Make it a bit creamy. Shit slaps so hard. If us Brooklyn kids drive up for some cheesesteaks you guys need to drive down here for a steak Pizziola, get it with extra sauce and extra grated cheese. Trust.
Always good food, and nice people. You know how to hunt out the good stuff, off of the beaten path. Next time we go up north, I will follow your lead to find some great food. Your hard work and dedication is much appreciated.
Wow, I grew up in red hook in the 60s-70s. Nick's as we used to call it back in the day was the place to go for a good hero. I remember my grandmother use to take me there and we would split a 1/2 loaf. My favorite order was ham, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles cherry peppers salt pepper oil and vinegar on a 1/2 and a bag of chips. I,m in my 60s now and I haven't been back to the hook in years. I'll give you one guess where I'm having lunch today.
Wait! YOU ATE ALL OF THESE SANDWICHES IN ONE DAY! ??? Thank you for sharing! I can’t wait to try that Steak sandwich! It looked like the way you said it was going to taste. I totally only knew about Katz in the city.
J.L. told you you would like it. Next time you are there try the Roast beef with pepper jack cheese the Motts and roast beef and when you get the pepper jack roast beef both heroes are outstanding. Also their pastami is amazing also. Actually everything is amazing at Delfonti's. I grew up not far from there. Also lived in Philadelphia in Olney and Germantown for years. But Delfonti's is #1 on the eastcoast for heroes not hoagie and don't get that twisted in Brooklyn it's a hero not a hoagie. Their regular samwichs are outstanding also. That was my spot for decades. Especially when I drove NYC Yellow cabs in Manhattan. I went past there everyday on my way into Manhattan and would stop for something. The potato and egg hell I basically lived off that for decades. But just being real about it. They are my #1 spot on the eastcoast. And the hero rolls have been baked in the same bakery I believe it is on Henry Street since they opened Delfonti's. Brother you will have to make a few trips up from Philly just to be able to try everything that they have there. Next time you go take your crew with you bro. You will never be disappointed at Delfonti's I will guarantee you that. I will put them right up against the iconic hoagie spots in Philly any day of the week and I love them both. Here's a good spot to check out in Brooklyn for roast beef Brennan and Carrs on the corner of Avenue U and Nostrand Avenue. Check it out if you haven't already been there. You won't be disappointed. They also make some amazing pulled pork there also.
I dont know what day it was that you were there but I've never seen that place empty like that at lunch time. Never. Always packed. Defontes never disappoints. Been going there over 25 years. The best around.
You’re in my old neighborhood from the 70s I was a kid definitely will be stopping through grew up on Court, Street and ninth Street not too far from there .. Just was talking about Red Hook …

@Sir jiggy Widit I get it about Bensonhurst; I mentioned Lioni's because he went there several months back and didn't recall the name.

Potatoes and eggs reminds me of my dearly departed italian mom. I was weaned on it.
