- In order to balance Fe + O2 = Fe2O3 you'll need to watch out for two things.
First, be sure to count all of Fe and O atoms on each side of the chemical equation. Once you know how many of each type of atom you have you can only change the coefficients (the numbers in front of atoms or compounds) in order to balance the equation.
Second, when you balance the equation it is easier to change the coefficient in front of Fe2O3 first in order to get an even number of Oxygen atoms. As a general rule, this makes balancing equations much easier.

Good question. I use a number of tools and increasingly I’m trying to use only open source software.
Lately I’ve used InkScape (inkscape.org) for the writing. It is vector based so it gives the writing a very smooth feel.
For image manipulation I use Krita (krita.org).
Animations are usually done in OpenToonz (opentoonz.github.io) although I’ve not done much since it takes a lot of time.
For screen recording I use Camtasia Studio (costs money). This isn’t open source. I also do my cleanup and editing using Camtasia Studio. Many of the fades and transitions are done in Camtasia. OBS Studio (obsproject.com) is a free capture program that I’ve been meaning to try.
I’m using a Dell Inspiron notebook computer with Windows 10 and a Yeti Blue Microphone. My writing tablet is a Wacom Bamboo.
There are a lot of moving pieces, but they make the process more enjoyable and the outcome more useful.

since Fe can have oxidation number 2 or 3, why can't it just take 2 so that Fe+O2 makes FeO? in stead of taking oxidation number 3 and forming Fe2O3?
+Borny545 That would work. There are actually three possible reactions:
Fe + O2 --> Feo
Fe + O2 --> Fe2O3
Fe + O2 --> Fe3O4

Sir but we firstly balance the smaller element (fe ) why we are directly balancing o ?? Is 2Fe+3O2=2Fe2o3 correct answer ??? Plzz help me..
I like to leave the monatomic element (like Fe) until last. The are the easiest to balance. That way when you fix the oxygen atoms the Fe is easily fixed. 2Fe+3O2=2Fe2o3 isn't balanced because you have 2Fe on the left and 4Fe on the right.

PLeeeease someone tell me why when wiritng out the reactant side of the formula, why does Fe not have the +3 charge written next to?? This is really confusing me and preventing me from being able to balance equations correctly.
