I've made these for a longtime and give them as gifts. My tiny great nieces play on one and it's been spotted in various photos of the children, mum and dad pinch it in the evenings so I'm making the girls a new one. Also just finished one for a friend for Christmas. They last ages and wash well, lovely and warm. Great to make whilst watching TV.

Love this idea I have done this before, I've even made a big enough baby blanket with it too and an amigurumi to go with it!! And the tiny scrap pieces make great stuffing as well. If they're too stringy I just shred it with my dog brush

I have always loved scrap blankets because they are all unique and its the not knowing how it will look once finished,often much nicer than if a pattern had been used!
@@wendajones9040 I made mine about 130 chains and it is very wide. I would suggest starting with 100 chains and then adjusting it to your preference from there. Probably somewhere between 110 and 120 for a regular blanket, but it will also depend on your yarn, hook, and tension.
Thanks... making scrap baskets is great too. And you’ll finish in one sitting. And yes, with those super knots, these scrap blankets are so warm, they wash over and over well, become softer with each wash and dry so they become everyone’s favorite!
I completely agree! I've literally just finished this beast of a blanket - I always seem to finish scrap blankets as I don't get bored! Most other blankets are destined to become forever WIPs 😀 This blanket will be gifted to a friend of mine so hopefully she will love it too! X
That's what I did with bags of scraps someone gave me. I was new and after practicing I dug out all the autumn colors and very light colors. Used 2 strands autumn with one light, switch after few rows with 2 light/one autumn. Made a very nice (even with some newbie mistakes) and warm blanket for my son, who just moved into his first place.

I’ve become hooked on crocheting double stranded baby blankets… I #3 yarn… Two strands makes a very soft, squishy blanket.. You can mix colors, or use one color as a constant… There are lots of options.

I was making a crop top but it was my first crochet project so the whole thing came out horribly. Now I'm adding more yarn to turn it into a desk blanket (not long enough for the bed but perfect length and width for sitting at my desk to work). I can treasure it as my first project, see all the mistakes (and improvements) while having it keep me cozy. I'm going to add more colours just for fun. It's not going to make ANY sense when I'm done with it but I will love it for what it is :)

Love this! This is exactly what I do with my leftovers. A big hook and three or four strands at a time and just throwing all the colors in no particular order. It’s so much fun to make stashbuster afghans and they are so nice and warm and cuddly for cold weather. Yours is beautiful!

And thank you so much for the advice in the videos. I am so much the indecisive personality who can't pick what color they want to use or what colors go together. I did it exactly as you said, it used up my whole stash of yarn, I didn't get hung up on the color choices. I grabbed some yarn my hooks pulled up the video hit play and started crocheting along with your video and as I was crocheting I was like oh my gosh what she said is so true and the blanket does get really really freaking heavy it's the heaviest blanket I think I've ever owned huge heavy and I use three strands. It turned out absolutely beautiful!! Now I'm confident in my crocheting skills. And it totally took my crocheting to the next level as well as when you're making this blanket you're not thinking about the colors you're putting together you just I just grab random colors and as I was going along that's when I started realizing oh my gosh these colors look absolutely beautiful together oh I definitely don't like these colors together. love ya thx again

I have seen a lot of stash buster or scrap yarn blankets, but I have never seen anyone else do exactly this... I have made 2 blankets so far exactly like this hook and all, except I use double crochet. I'm currently got 4 going for my kids to each have one. I call them fun funky crazy blankets. I ball all my yarn im not gonna use into small balls and randomly pick a ball when 1 rolls out so they are super funky.

This is my favorite blanket to make I use a 9 to 12 mm hook and use 2 to 3 strands depending on the weights. Its a good seller for me also...people love them they say they are warm.

If you check “ behind” you it will be noticeable if you drop a color. Love making this but I live in Georgia (USA) and it very seldom gets real cold but I hope ! 😂😂

Thank you for this idea. I inherited a bunch of mismstched yarn from my grandmother. There wasn't enough of any one thing to be useful, and I hate scrap blankets that are just stripes of mismatched yarn. I find them irritating to look at. This allows so many different colors that normally would look terrible together to blend amazingly well. After combining my scraps, her yarn, and some supplemental clearance skeins, I got a blanket large enough to cover my queen size bed, and boy is it heavy. I weighed it and it's around 10 lbs. Why spend hundreds on a weighted blanket when you can just make one! So far its one of my favorites things I've made.

@@HookedbyRobin Yes each one different personalities. Two moth ago crazy time because my daughter Natalia rescued 4 kittens some of the older's very angry for the kittens but Natalia found home for 3 males. We are kept the female. ( Asta 3 moth old now) 😽
3- heavy!! I’m doing one with yarn that’s wayyyyyyy more than a year old that I’ve put up......saving. 🤦♀️ if you drop a color. Mine is only 2 strands and sc !! If you check “ behind” you it will be noticeable if you drop a color. Love making this but I live in Georgia (USA) and it very seldom gets real cold but I hope ! 😂😂
Sc is very dense - I'm impressed! I don't have the patience for sc blankets 😂
I made one a few years ago for a friend.It was with 4 strands of yarn and in S C.HDC is my fav tho and I need to get back to finishing a blanket in that.

Ugly tent blankets are the best 😂 You can also use them to muffle speakers 😉🤣

Thank you for this idea. I inherited a bunch of mismstched yarn from my grandmother. There wasn't enough of any one thing to be useful, and I hate scrap blankets that are just stripes of mismatched yarn. I find them irritating to look at. This allows so many different colors that normally would look terrible together to blend amazingly well. After combining my scraps, her yarn, and some supplemental clearance skeins, I got a blanket large enough to cover my queen size bed, and boy is it heavy. I weighed it and it's around 10 lbs. Why spend hundreds on a weighted blanket when you can just make one! So far its one of my favorites things I've made.
