theory: Vegeta's mother was rather soft hearted for a Saiyan. She was strong, but had a large heart. Similar to Goku.
so when Tarble was banished. Vegeta's mother was horrified at her husband. In the end her and King Vegeta may have ended up fighting and she of course lost, seeing she couldn't bring herself to hurt the man she loved and was banished as well. if they didn't fight, she would most likely followed Tarble off the planet.
the reason Vegeta never spoke of her is for the same reason as Tarble. he saw her as a disgrace to the royal Saiyan name and wanted nothing to do with her the moment she defended his "weak, and useless" brother.

I think she was probably like any other Saiyan. Akira Toriyama mentioned that many Saiyans died young because of their nature for loving battles, so maybe it's possible that she died before any of the flashbacks occur. Or, I think another possible explanation is that female Saiyans didn't have a high status in general. Either of those ideas I think is more likely.
The idea that she was soft hearted would be too much of a convenience. We already have Gine, Tarble and somewhat Bardock. It would downplay the concept that most Saiyans were bloodthirsty by nature if they were to suggest King Vegeta's mate was also soft hearted.

Another thing I have wondered is what number Vegeta is ours. We know he is at least Vegeta the second, since his father's name is Vegeta too (which I suppose means the Vegeta Jr. we meet at the end of GT is technically Vegeta the Third. but does it go farther. Was Vegeta's Grandfathers name Vegeta. Is the head of EVERY generation of his family named Vegeta.

Truth be told, it is simply put, Akira Toriyama doesn't think that far. Hence why there are plenty of contradictions, empty voids, and retcons in the series. Unlike Marvel and DC, Dragonball is simply ment to enjoy not to analyze.

Marvel, especially Marvel has so many plot holes, retcons galore (every 6 month reboots!), unending contradictions and god awful characterization/storytelling (Nazi Captain America), the only thing you can do with Marvel is close your eyes and enjoy whatever they barf up every Wednesday because god knows that if you try to analyse it you'll do like I did and say fuck this crap.
At least DC tries to fix its mistakes and tries to have a cohesive universe. Marvel just doesn't care since Disney took over.
As far as analyzing Dragon Ball, you have to because, unlike Marvel and DC, who have an endless supply or writers and artists to (attempt) touch base on every plot line, Toriyama has left so much meat on the bone that all we can do is reread, re-watch and try to find the threads that will lead us to what Toriyama either envisioned or could have.
We need a few Vegeta only specials. Enough with Goku already!

Ultimate Roch in z he was a dick but I won't lie his goodbye to trunks was able to put his on my top 5 because be killed himself to save his son he wasn't like Goku and just wanted to put the earth at state just to let them get the win. He had a good reason making it so that the planet doesn't rely on him but he didn't learn from the cell games he needs to let them mature before they can. As far as I remember, Tarble was mention in either DBS or DBZ: BoG. Bulma scolded Vegeta on not keeping in contact with him. She didn't say Tarble's name but said, your brother.
Cabba reminds me of Tarbles because Vegeta shows a relationship with Cabba as most brothers the oldest with the youngest, harsh at times but respective and caring

We have seen enough background concerning Vegeta as a child. He was never pampered. Often made sure to know his heritage and legacy. He knew deeply who he was (is) and that prominence of royalty, power, strength and other points within his blood.
He trained by this, he lived by this, he fought by this and he ruled by this. Even his reaction to Beerus and Frieza fully indicate what his childhood was.
What's interesting is the Saiyan culture never matching that of the real world culture and upbringing of Spartan children.
They have a deep sense of loyalty as Saiyans. The difference about the Vegeta maybe 10 years prior to him reaching Earth - a Vegeta at the time of Goku battling Piccolo would be about 7 to I years older than Goku. That makes Vegeta 19 to 22 years old.
The 21 year old Vegeta is quite different than the Vegeta Who reached earth. The Earth Vegeta has become far meaner, far more powerful, far more lethal and solid in his quest for greatness, power, revenge and supremacy.
The Vegeta at that point had no loyalties. His killing Nappa showed that. The natural care for a Saiyan warrior was gone.
These things show much about his childhood.

King Vegeta lead the rebellion against the Tuffles, which is why he became the King and they renamed the planet after him too.
I like the hair cut theory. I've been curious if that's how Nappa ended up being bald too. Like they got bored one day and they cut their hair and that's when they realized that it doesn't grow back.

This made me think, wouldn't it be interesting if in saiyan society they refer to eachother by their surname like how in polite Japanese? I know that would mean Kakkarot and Raditz would also have to be Bardock, but that's how you could end up with king Vegeta, queen Vegeta and prince Vegeta.
King Vegeta killed his wife for being compassionate which is considered weak in the Saiyan race, lil Vegeta knew this and vowed to make his father proud

I've always wondered how training by yourself even works. Never made sense to me. You gotta have a sparring partner.
My theory for Tarble is that he’s probably Vegeta’s half brother from a low class Saiyan woman King Vegeta slept with spur of the moment (I don’t imagine Saiyans being faithful to their s.o.’s due romance and relationships not being important) and once realized Tarble was weak he sent him off world without telling anyone except his son and his wife ashamed that he the king could conceive such a weak child and not wanting his people know this

The training with Vegeta and Trunks training can't be that surprising. Vegeta wasn't likely gonna bond with Trunks any other way than sparing with him. Yes it would be cool character moments to see what happened isn't really hard to figure out. Vegeta acknowledges Trunks power Semi-Perfect Cell, and for the the fist time someone(Trunks) attacked him and he didn't do everything his power to kill Trunks. Or makes sure he kills him later. So yes Vegeta came to respect Trunks in the time chamber.
