Man, I remember this hack way back long ago when I was looking for Fire Emblem Hacks after the Last Promise

I actually had similar feelings about the characters as well.

This was one of the first hacks I played, and it's stuck with me ever since. The quality of the portraits and writing (both plot and characters) were much higher quality than I ever expected to see from a hack, especially once I learned it was all done by one person! The gameplay certainly left something to be desired, but I do think I'm a bit different from the norm in the sense that I tend to value gameplay a bit lower vs plot/character development than others do when judging and looking for a hack to play. Also helps that the gameplay is more slow and easy vs outrageously difficult, especially for a hack that I really wanted to progress in more than anything. Super happy to see this get a shoutout!

My main issue with Requiem is how it starts out much harder than necessary. The enemy number is insane compared to your tiny army.
Outside of that, I do enjoy it a lot. GBA Emblem is somewhat dated as a whole, but its always fun to go back to.

You know, I also love the FE7 aesthetic. There's this feeling in fe6 and fe8 thats just missing for me, maybe this game can recreate that magic. Thanks for talking about the game, Ill definitely check it out!

Since you mentioned that you are really interested in FE hacking history, could you do a video or review of Pukachi's hack done back in 2008. Its an extremely impressive 1 chapter hack considering how much was done, with so little tools back then. To do a hack like that back then required an ability to read through assembly and dig up a lot of information in the ROM. Just in general Pukachi is considered one of THE OG fire emblem ROM hackers along with Icy Toast. Also, Im talking about her one chapter snow level hack. It was originally submitted for a FE hacking contest, but she ended up being the only submission.

@@nadnap Apologies, it was probably a bit rude to make an abrupt request like that. But if you check it out, I think you'll find it interesting at the very least. Also, I personally just think its a charming hack and wish it wasnt completely forgotten about

I played this hack long ago. I think it’s inoffensive at best, it’s very overloaded with busted prepromotes and the level design isn’t particularly interesting. It’s nice to just mindlessly stomp through though.

Just being able to avoid the weird FE7 hack lategame difficulty spike, through said busted prepromotes, is a pretty big point in its favor.

@@randomwizard2971 Maybe for some people, but I would prefer my video game to get harder as I go through it

Glad you’re finally playing Requiem! The gameplay isn’t exactly great by modern standards, but the overall presentation and writing is among the best I’ve seen in a hackrom. Gameplay aside, I’d say it’s on par with an original GBAFE. I love those glitches too - it’s interesting to actually see characters cap resistance for once.

I was hearing your portrait tangent, and I've dealt with trying to make my own portrait sprites, and it's impressive what the sprite artists made. It's very impressive

Here is the full LP I found: th-cam.com/play/PLCt_OyUqfAWvcvo0lWYs3wjfaa9GH2iyT.html - this is from 2015 and has the old portraits. Haven't seen all of it, but you can see the original mugs in action here.

Requiem is...odd, as I loved the story, characters, the cast, the main lords, and the overall plot. But the gameplay is...meh at best with some terrible shit that ruins my taste. Like the fog of war that requires you to kill every single unit just wanted me to rage quit.

Yeah, out of all full length hacks, Requiem is so far my favourite. Didn't even know it had a bad reputation, the story and the characters gripped me and that's all I care about in a hack. And even better if it's on the easy side rather than too hard and overwhelming. Also full supports is just amazing.
So far I've played TLP, Requiem, Road to Ruin, VQ, Justice and Pride, right now playing through Crimson Arm. I only really play full length hacks because I'm always looking to experience a complete story. Last one I played was Justice and Pride, and while the gameplay was alright, the writing felt kinda stiff. I also tried SGW but it's way too experimental and I couldn't get into the lore of it. Are there any other full length hacks that are similar to Requiem i.e. on the easy side and with good quality writing and characters?

Dark Lord and Maiden of Light has a pretty straightforward early game, but also gets a little crazy towards the end (so I've heard). May be worth playing, the person behind OCA playtested it so it may feel similar.

You may also want to look into the Heroes We Deserve if you're interested in something more humorous/light, and the Lonely Mirror, which recently released.

Sorry, but I cannot enjoy this hack. The fact that the first chapter is unnecessarily hard is a clear indication that the person who made this hack knows nothing about map design or character balance. Val still has a fair chance to be hit even in the forest and there are way too many enemies for a first chapter. And I read that there are a few more harder chapters after the first one. Garbage hack.
