Thank you so much Bettina I really really enjoyed watching you create this beautiful and stunning too. I love ❤❤❤❤ your style and your artwork. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Leaving the paper on the block while you paint keeps paper from buckling.... But of course if you want to use the other side then you have to pull it off😉 Lovely paintings and doodles❤️👍
Lovely, Bettina….really fab !!! Your subscribers are growing because we love you and your artwork, Bettina !!! Congratulations , well done…..you have done really well in such a short space of time 🎉🎉 May your channel continue to grow. All the very best of everything to you 💕💕🤩🤩🥳🥳🎉🎉
Super enjoyable video! I have never thought of using watercolor pencil shavings. Nice. Also my sister and I were just talking about pens for drawing out her sketches after using pencil. I suggested a color other than black and told her i would research what's out there. I'll let her know about these pens. Thanks for linking them....Gorgeous painting. I have dotting tools and have forgotten all about them! Good grief!😂Your videos are very inspiring!!🙋🌅💚💙
you: "I think I'm going to use the less textured backside instead of the front side. (Don't come for me please.)" now that's funny. you know there are self-appointed YTPP (TH-cam Post Police) who may offer negative comments cuz ... "You ain't doin' it right!!". But, you're an artist & taking creative liberties is a given!! [you go, girl!]
This piece is so beautiful. I have been feeling like the black is to harsh on my pieces also but I didn't know they made Grey in the Micron pens. Thanks for sharing. I will get some. Have a great weekend.😊
That's good to know! I'm still playing around with it. I'm just so used to the Bee paper atp that anything with a lot of texture takes me a moment to get used to. Thank you for your comment 💕❤️
I absolutely love doing this art. It is so satisfying. I have gotten carried away on a few so now I try to make sure I stop at a certain point. But I go back and always find a spot that needs something else 🥰 Thank you so much for the inspirations. 💕
Your creation on new paper that you will be able to use. I know it must be such a joyous relief? And your piece here turned out beautiful as always. I just love it! ~❤~
I fell for the green paper scare😂😂😂😂. Mine was on a Meeden paper, but I heard that Baohong makes the Meeden paper. I do have the student grade Baohong, and I like it.
I just bought a block of Baohong hot press because of pens but haven’t had time to try it out yet. Never used hot press before. Also bought a Bee journal- same thing, no time. Weather got warm here and since I’m a nature photographer I was out and about. But not we’re back to winter, so hopefully in the next week.
Hot press paper is smoother. Boahong makes Academy watercolor paper as well as Meeden. The Meeden paper is in U.S. measurements. The rest of the world uses metric sizes. Love how this turned out. The "shavings" were a nice addition and the gray pens are nice.
The size is not so much of a concern to me. I can always cut it to what I need. Being Swiss, I'm very used to metric sizes 😊 Thank you for your lovely comment 💕❤️
Is the paper sized on both sides? If so then both sizes are great (Arches is sized on both sides too) If the back side isn’t sized it will react differently. I have purchased some of the same paper but haven’t tested it yet. Also I love everything you do :)
Nothing wrong with using the back of the paper, all good quality 100% cotton papers can be used on both sides. But if that's the case, I wouldn't spend the extra money on a block; they cost a lot more than the pads, and removing the sheet before painting defeats the purpose of a block and nullifies the extra cost. I think Baohong only comes in blocks tho, so understandable in this case. Using watercolor pencil shavings is a very old technique, I learned it from my mother when I was born and I'm not that young lol. So no need to credit anyone for it bc no one really knows who came up with it first ☺ I have Brusho and Ken Oliver's powders and they are much stronger and visible than the shavings, the results are quite flashy compared. Also, if you want a certain value to look like you envision it after it's dried, you have to mix it a lot stronger so you can get that final result. One of my first watercolor mentors used to say that if the value looks right on the palette, it's wrong 😀 Lastly, even tho the rough side is not that gentle on the pen, it works so much better when using granulating pigments; it really enhances that property, so I'd rather go with a ballpoint pen instead of my delicate Microns, but it's so worth it when you see the final result!
I have recently seen an artist take a watercolour pencil tip and sand it over their water saturated paper to get the effect of colour bursts. Might be worth a try before you invest in the powders.
Maybe we watched the same artist that I mentioned in the video? I will definitely try the sanding technique next time! I always try to work with what I have, before going out and buying more materials, yes. Good practice 👍🏻😊

Just love the combinations of the watercolours, pencil shavings, colour pencils, and markers. It all comes together so well. Thank you for sharing.
Aww, thank you! I appreciate it and it makes me happy to hear others like it too!

Thank you so much! I love experimenting with new supplies ❤️💕
Another fabulous video, Bettina!! You used my favorite colors, too!! It always makes think of an undersea fantasy land!!❤❤
They make me happy. I've never really been a blue and green person, but lately those colors have been capturing my attention ❤️💕

Hahaha! That makes me feel so much better, you have no idea! 😆
BRILLIANT ❤
I got my powdered pigments on Amazon. Also, I use the fine Boahong paper for my pen work. Love it!!!
I love hot pressed for pen work on watercolor paper. Bristol is good too if no plan to use a lot of water.
I have yet to try hot pressed. But you know me, I like using a lot of water usually, so maybe the Bristol wouldn't be a good fit for me.
Beautiful 😊

The powdery pigment is called Brusho.
Ah, thank you!!

Hmm, you're asking a newbie here 🤔 how do I find such a thing out? Either way, working on the backside turned out fine, so I think it's OK? 😆

Baohong is not cheap anymore!
You pay for it so use it how you want to. It’s no one else’s money after all.
You mean Brusho ….. it’s a very strong pigment powder
Ah, that's the one. Thank you!
Gorgeous!
