    I love your video. I've been riding motorcycles since 1970 and I'm now 62. I've owned 47 bikes during that time, from a Honda 50 to BMW R1150 GS, Honda Goldwing, many Triumphs, Nortons, a Ducati Monster, etc. I recently purchased this exact bike, a 2014 DL650A, even the same color as yours. It only has 2400 miles so far (still working full-time!) I adore this motorcycle for all the same reasons you mention in your video. I switched out the exhaust for a Two Brothers unit, and now it sounds as good as my Monster did with Two Brothers mufflers, which is magical. I added a rear tank trunk and plan on a nice set of panniers soon. It continues to amaze me that this bike is "only" a 650. I'm so old that when I started riding, a 650 was considered a big bike! Thanks for a great clip.

    I completely agree. The could be the best all-around motorcycle ever made. It is inexpensive, reliable, versatile, sporty, comfortable, low-maintenance, and nicely designed. It will take you from Juneau to Patagonia and back. It's put together like a high-quality precision instrument.

    Enjoyable ride. I own the DL1000 and the DL650 and both have their charms. Suzuki has done its homework on the engine, fuel injection, and transmission. I like the candy apple red, which is the same color on my Vee. The Glee is white, but I prefer the orange/copper color. Either way, you can't go wrong with these rides. Your back and neck will appreciate the natural riding positions!

    Cheers mate! I have a 2013 DL650 - love it. Spent 4 1/2 months and 12K miles living off her from North Carolina to north of Vancouver BC and many places in between, not one single issue and had all day comfort. Did change the seat, windscreen, beefed up suspension, but she was sooooo reliable and comfortable! I also have a 2015 KTM500 EXC and recently started riding trials. But the Vstrom will always have her spot in the garage, such a treat to ride!

    Hey Mark, your so right on. I just bought a brand new 2014 left over. Got a great deal. I also put on the hand guards, lower cowel, center stand, 12v outlet and aluminum top case. Im very happy with this bike.

      mammydammy, Update. Its 9 months later now. Ive also changed the windscreen to a larger taller one. Ive got 5200 miles on it now and it still looks, rides and feels brand new. This bike is so easy and comfortable to ride. It goes from 0-100mph really quick. I am so glad I chose this for my first road bike. It has given me a lot of confidence and elevated my skill. 3hr 100-200mile rides are a pleasure. When I first learned to ride I was getting @60mpg. Now I get @35-45mpg. This is a great bike to learn on. I chose this bike because of reviews like yours Mark and I also like the looks. Mine is red too and I like the sound. I get a lot of compliments on it. The seat and riding position are comfortable. Its a really nice ride. Glad I got it.

    Mines being delivered next week, 3600mile white and black, and I've owned a 2008/58 Hayabusa for seven years along with a Blackbird and VFR1200 among other bikes over 32 years. I can't wait to experience the comfort again, as I test drove one when my Busa went in for a service a few years back now:-)

    Great honest review Mark, I have almost 60,000 km on my 2012 650 now and it never fails to impress. I also have a Kawasaki Versys 1000 and the Vstrom is the bike I pick for a long ride. It hasn't got the power of the 1000 but far more comfortable and handles much better. Sometimes I think the 650 is all I need as it will comfortably cruise at 130kph and has a top speed just better than 200kph. I didn't have to change the original chain and sprockets until 52,000km. Arguably the best all round value for money motorcycle on the market.

    I pulled the trigger yesterday and bought a NEW 2014 Suzuki V-Strom 650 ABS out the door including taxes for $6900 (about 4718 British Pounds). Huge rebates from Suzuki. Will be delivered to my home next week. Based my decision to buy on all the positive reviews including this one by Mark.

    I just finished my first 100km on a brand new V-Strom DL-650 EXPL. It's my fifth Suzuki and at 650cc the smallest. It's by far the best all-around bike (previous were GS-850, VZ800, M-50, and Bandit 1200s). At 6 ft, the upright position on this tall bike is very relaxing. Lots of power for the Canadian highways as well. Highly recommended.
    Dorset eh? .... great tune called 'Dorset Four Hand Reel'. (folk music goes with the bike!!)

    Just yesterday I had the 650 put on the dyno at Springwood Suzuki Brisbane just to make sure it wasn't running too lean from modifying the standard muffler some time ago. I was surprised and pleased that the dyno showed 70hp neat which is 2 or 3hp up from standard and on a motor which has done 60,000km. The only other thing done was swapping to a D&A air cleaner element.
    The blokes at Springwood were friendly and professional so I would recommend them. Dyno was cheap too at $110.

    I agree whole heartedly with this review with the exception of my not raving about the suspension. I downsized to my '13 DL650 from a Moto Guzzi Stelvio which was just too big and made me ride to fast. Better suspension and a few other sizing and comfort items and this is by far my favorite bike.

    Nice review of a great bike! I bought a new one in 2012, added a bunch of mods to it, and rode it from Texas to Alaska this summer. Almost 11k miles in 38 days on all sort of roads, including dirt, gravel, and mud. The V-Strom did great. I've got a series of vids of mine in action on my channel. The best all-around motorcycle I've owned.

    As I commented on your walk round review I bought mine after watching this review , It's an excellent bike all day comfortable ,great fuel range and the most comfortable bike I've had in forty five years of riding !My other bike is an XJR1300 and the strange thing is that the V Strom feels less stressed and busy at any comparable cruising speed , you can cruise a 80/90 for miles and get off at the end of your journey with out feeling like you've had a good hiding ! Great bike and great review , Cheers Mel

    Went from the Honda CB1100 to the 2014 Suzuki V-Strom 650 ABS ($ in August 2015 new) and would never look back. Accessories galore for whatever suits you. CB1100 had virtually nothing here in the States. And lucky me in Texas you can ride year round. Shout out to Woods Cycle Country in New Braunfels. Happy riding everyone!!!!

    I have a 2006 SV650, which shares prettymuch exactly the same engine and even now still marvel at its capabilities. Also note that this engine is also shared between the SV, Wee Strom, and the Gladius.(with different mapping to suit their unique applications, of course!)

    A very good review and I must say my Strom still puts a smile on my face, either with commuting, easy to ride and the cost of running it (16months since new, 15000miles).
    The only negative I have is the optional Adventure engine bars I purchased with the bike which vibrations through the whole bike.

    Hi Mark.
    Nice review. I am about to buy this bike (50% because of you), so if you don't mind can you answer one question?
    Does this under cowling provides any kind of protection to the oil filter, or this particular one is just for the looks?
    I like this better from GIVI.

      @markpulling12  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi kan ..I bought the belly pan because they just look wrong and unfinished without it ..yes it does protect the oil filter a bit from stones etc from piercing it from flicking up from the front wheel ...hope this helps ..mark

    I have one of these I bought new in 2013. I have 12,000 ks on it now and they are everything you say thay are in this great review. Only thing I can add is that the engine really loosens up over the first 8-10,000 ks and is noticeably quicker than when it was new. I've put a 16 tooth sprocket on the front which drops the revs around 300 in 6th at 100 kph and makes the speedo more accurate. Still has plenty of punch in top gear as well. I chose to remove the Givi crash bars as they caused a vibration as mentioned previously

    Best bike I have ever owned by far and I have had 28 of them, it does ride like an 800cc with plenty of go, Flat 13 sec quarter mile time at 98mph, I just can't get it to 100mph and capable of 210kph top end (by the speedo), beautiful handling and comfortable enough for a 800km day ride (Australia). There is nothing to change. Mine has done 52,000km in less than 3 years and I have only just changed the original chain and sprockets. I have just bought a new 1000cc Versys, sure it has more power than the Vstrom but mostly I prefer the Suzuki. I will keep the two of them as I could not bring myself to sell the 650. 25km per litre Vstrom riding normal to hard- 17.5km per litre Versys normal riding, I can't recommend the Vstrom highly enough.

    Another good review for the vstrom. I have a 2012 650 and I love it. The best bike I ever had was an 85 Yamaha Virago. It was a beautiful cruiser style bike, but I wrecked it when I failed to make a corner. Not sure how well the vstrom would have fared in that corner, but the off roadability of the vstrom makes it a much more enjoyable machine. This is no were as pretty as the virago, but it is a tie with the virago.

    Nevermind. I had it up to 109 MPH the other day even with the panniers on. BTW, if your 5'8" and you can still sit upright, then thats the bike for you. I saw on a website that sells an ergonomic seat with a hole in the center just below the tailbone as you sit. I would think that would be even more comfortable.

    I bought one. A 2014 with the Suzuki luggage. I really like it. And you can really carve a corner on this thing.
    Great fuel mileage.
    But definitely not an adventure bike. Ok for dirt roads.

    Thanks for the review/video. This bike is not on top of my list. Was thinking maybe Versys (less money), but I really like what you said about the smooth power from the v twin. That does sound a lot better than something I have to rev out.

    • @BMRTV
      @BMRTV 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Having owned the versys for 40k miles now, I can say it's power is amazing and only if you need the very peak do you need to Rev it out, ie when you want to play sports bike :)

    Thank you for mentioning the SMOOTH GEARBOX! Most bikers don't care about smooth shifting, they just whack the shifter and crush through gears.
    I'm thinking about buying a Gladius because of the great gearbox.

    Hi, Great video this was good enough for me to purchase a 2015 model. I have an 2015 Indian Chief Classic and with a 1811cc engine and 0ver 330kg she is beautiful but not practical for every day use. So I found I needed a second bike that was uncomplicated and easy to use all year round. I started looking at second hand Versys 650 models and found they held their money quite well at £3000ish second hand but my local Suzuki dealer was doing a fantastic winter deal at £5500 on the road brand new which was £2100 more than a 7-8 year old second hand bike with 7000+ miles on the clock so it was a no brainer. After covering a few hundred miles I am finding that I am becoming quite attached to the bike and it is everything you said it was so thanks for your very accurate review. Regarding the bash plate I went with a metal version from SW Motech which looks perfect on the bike and is plenty strong enough to be able to use as a lifting point for maintenance work on the bike. The one gripe I have is I need a top box for daily commuting and have been told that the Givi top box universal adapter does not fit so I need to purchase the Suzuki one at £85+ unless someone has been able to fit the Givi adaptor please let me know. One question, your sort of saying the V Strom is all the bike you would ever need and you went and traded it in for a high maintenance Ducati WHY??

    I have a 2013 Adventure and after a skid plate and a new Terry Adcox seat I think it rivals or tops any adventure touring bike on the planet especially given the reliability that say a BMW lacks. Great review. I even test rode a V-Strom 1000 4-5 times recently and I just can't feel an overall improvement despite some slight improvements enough to justify the trade.

    Great to hear you say it's "sweet spot" is between 3-6k as I wanna get one of these on my A2 license in June, but it will have to be restricted to 47bhp using a throttle stop, so effectively it gives me all the low down and most of a mid-range pull :) Their second hand price with all the extra's is absolutely amazing and beats the other competitors, plus it's theist comfortable bike I've ever sat on :P lovely review

      Just found my comment again.... Just thought I'd let you know that I've just bought my new 2015 650 V Strom XT :D pass my test on the 6th of July so will be picking it up that afternoon :) mine will be restricted to 47bhp but they use a throttle stop, so I'll have about half to three quarters throttle movement, but having ridden it briefly on some private land I think the torque should haul my arse plenty quick enough, especially coming from a 125cc :)

    Great commentary! I have wanted one of these for years. I forget about it for awhile and look at many other kinds of bikes, but always come back to the DL650. It's possibly the best all around bike in existence. I had a Tiger 800 and that's a brilliant bike, but the Suzuki in some ways is better built (Suzuki does fit and finish better than the other Japanese makes), is a better value, has far better fuel economy and is more comfortable. I will buy one soon, even if I have to sell my Street Triple. Cheers.

      c perks Hi it's all about heat. You can use a hair dryer to gently warm it or just leave the bike in the sun for an hour or so. You should then be able to gently peel them off. I know what you mean they are a pain. Enjoy your bike. Mark

      Well value for money.. well pleased! Travelled frm B`ham to Basingstoke to buy it, 2nd hand with a grands worth of accessories on. Cost me £25 on the train there. The same bike in the Midlands was 3,000 without anything on.
      Obviously would have loved a Triumph badge on the tank but second hand a Triumph Tiger are over 5,000.

    Beautiful countyside. My 2012 650 V-Strom Adventure only does 96 MPH on the straightaway. This is plenty fast, but, I can see seasoned riders wanting a bigger bike.

    • @xorbe2
      @xorbe2 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      How can that be? An old 27 hp Ninja will touch 95 mph top speed. V-Strom has more than double the power! The 44 hp Honda 500 (471cc) bikes will break 100 mph. Forums say 106-116 mph for DL650. BUT you don't want to do that on a V-Strom, keep it below 95, she's not super stable at high speed.
