I have to say man, im 21 years old, I enjoy watching your videos. I start them in the morning on a work day throw in an airpod and listen to it while I work while occasionally looking to see the fish you catch. I really enjoy catfishing myself and actually live in TN too. But at 16 I was diagnosed with non-hodgekins lymphoma which basically threw my last highschool years in the trash, but I ended up getting a credit card when I was 18 and buried myself in debt, I wont say a number but it was up there and now, all I can do is work it off because At the time I was tired of seeing all my friends and other people enjoying theirselves on the beach and traveling, but now im 21 and im stuck working all the time unless its the weekend and man its rough. I just wanted to say man you speak the truth. But hey with my deteriorated health from rounds and rounds of chemo, Im getting to almost where I cannot work as well as I used to as I work in a warehouse. So ive been patiently looking for a job that pays more and is less demanding on my body. But as I was saying I just wanna say man you do great at telling advice and fishing, i aspire to be as prepared as you and be financially where you are at some point, ive looked and looked at boats and kayaks as I would love to be on the water on the weekends and enjoy time on the water on the weekends vs being on the bank but hey I do enjoy spending time atleast with a wet hook. Keep posting amazing content man! I really enjoy watching! Also hope your dry after all that hurricane weather hit east TN! Hope the bite since the weather has been amazing!💯💯💯

I went through treatment for 5 months and the aftermath is what pretty much ruined my highschool years but now its just a constant struggle of staying ahead yenno? But hey it all gets better with time, just realizing I messed up with a credit card and knowing that I aint getting any younger will teach me not to do it again! Im currently looking for better jobs and everything that is a little easier on my body, when I was 18 fresh out of highschool this job was possible and feasible for me but now that ive gotten older and chemo has stood the test of time on degrading my joints and bones and back, well lifting tile and hardwood and stuff just isn’t a good path anymore ya know? But thank you so much for creating content that has little tidbits of life lessons and help in them it means the world!

I fish from my boat and the river banks with my son in law and grandson and it's the hunt and the tug that keeps us coming back (along with being able to eat fish if we want to) Sometimes we have to release fish if they are to big, to small, wild etc. but it was winning the battle that was fun and it somehow makes the soul happy, My grandson (15yr old) just caught a 9lb salmon on a jig (he sells them also for fishing money) that he tied up and the joy and the look of accomplishment on his face......that's one of the reasons I fish. Keep on doing what you do Justin I truly enjoy your videos and your commentary. We don't really fish catfish here in Washington State but that flathead was a HOG......very nice

They asked me if i knew who Ryan Bortz was, I told them that I only knew of him through your videos on youtube. I then started laughing and told them that if he ever came back in there that they should call him bottle rocket Bortz just to see what his reaction would be. lol. Anyways, thank you again for yet another great video! Any time i have any free time I am watching your videos, heck i even fall asleep with your videos playing through my ear buds. i will just start one of your yearly playlists and let it play.
I also fish to catch fish to eat. However, unlike your commenter, I also enjoy the sport of fishing. It is fun catching fish, especially those that put up a fight like catfish do. I had my best catfishing last night, numbers and size. The lake was up 1-2 feet due to Helene. I did some ultralight fishing first and didn't get a bite, which concerned me if the catfish will be biting. I decided to anchor on a new spot on the edge of a hole in the original river bend. About 10 minutes before the time I had set to leave, I caught my PB blue cat (35-40 lbs.). I fish with medium rods/reels and it took me about 15 minutes to wear him down so I can land him. Even though I did release the fish because I don't keep the larger fish, I enjoyed the fight. It was exciting feeling him pull hard on the rod and pulling drag. My fishing trip ended on a high note, I don't specifically target big catfish, but prepared and ready for the fight when it comes along because fishing is the best sport around, whether you fish to keep fish to eat or catch and release. Keep doing what you're doing that leads to your "pursuit of happiness"...it's your life to live.

OK JJ. I haven't commented in a while but, I still watch. First off, I pray for all that has been affected by Helene and that things will get better ASAP. I started watching this video Sunday night on my phone because we didn't have power and I'm here to watch the rest but, I wanted to ask you something and at the 2hr 18 or so mark, you said trolling. Now that you said that, you got me thinking more. My initial question was, could you explain the difference between dragging and drifting? Dragging I assume is when you are going against the current with baits behind you and drifting is going with the current but still baits behind you. Am I correct? I am trying to get a small boat that I can just get out on the water before this yr is out and I was just gonna apply what I have been learning from you about the ledges and creek mouths and anchor up. I've learned as you said in this video, dragging and doing something different may or may not result in better results so, I need some more info. Now back on that word you mentioned....trolling. Is that the original word for drifting? I really appreciate you, your expertise, your videos and the fact, you usually respond to me. I'm just trying learn much as I can to be successful when I do get out in my own little boat or whatever boat GOD bless me to have.
Different catfishermen will give you different answers to that question. For me, when I say trolling it means I am having to propel the kayak because there is either no current or I am moving against the current. When I say I am drifting, the kayak is either being moved by current or wind. Dragging or suspending is just the particular techniques I do while moving.

I had a awful smell in my car and couldn't figure out why..I forgot some frozen cutbait bluegill and thought that melting was the problem but a month or so later I found a mummy bluegill hiding under my seat😂😂 hopefully the smell will go away now😅

OK JJ. I haven't commented in a while but, I still watch. First off, I pray for all that has been affected by Helene and that things will get better ASAP. I started watching this video Sunday night on my phone because we didn't have power and I'm here to watch the rest but, I wanted to ask you something and at the 2hr 18 or so mark, you said trolling. Now that you said that, you got me thinking more. My initial question was, could you explain the difference between dragging and drifting? Dragging I assume is when you are going against the current with baits behind you and drifting is going with the current but still baits behind you. Am I correct? I am trying to get a small boat that I can just get out on the water before this yr is out and I was just gonna apply what I have been learning from you about the ledges and creek mouths and anchor up. I've learned as you said in this video, dragging and doing something different may or may not result in better results so, I need some more info. Now back on that word you mentioned....trolling. Is that the original word for drifting? I really appreciate you, your expertise, your videos and the fact, you usually respond to me. I'm just trying learn much as I can to be successful when I do get out in my own little boat or whatever boat GOD bless me to have.
Different catfishermen will give you different answers to that question. For me, when I say trolling it means I am having to propel the kayak because there is either no current or I am moving against the current. When I say I am drifting, the kayak is either being moved by current or wind. Dragging or suspending is just the particular techniques I do while moving.

Yes, I’m sure a double hook rig would help especially on the larger live baits. I’m just too lazy to tie them lol.

@KayakCatfish , thanks. I'm still watching the video. I've talked to Ryan bortz last couple of days. The part of the conversation where you talked about doing what you love to do was part of what him and I discussed. I've got to do it. I need to find a way to get my debt off of me so I can move forward. Keep making videos, I still find inspiration in every one of them.
The only time I believe that folks start disliking their jobs is when the work environment starts being toxic. Favoritism, not feeling appreciated, management and the list can go on.

A simple Google search would tell you it weighs around 30 pounds. Most don't care about all that though.
@jonboatmorava9115 maybe on average. But catfish can be the smallest length and drastically different weights. By 10 to 20 pounds sometimes difference.

See this is exactly why he don't weigh fish or make any kind of deal about it because all people do is argue or cry about the information given.

Just bring a 13 gallon garbage bag with you and put the bucket inside the bag when you're transporting it this way if the water splashes out for whatever reason it will get trapped in the bag and not all over your car

I had a awful smell in my car and couldn't figure out why..I forgot some frozen cutbait bluegill and thought that melting was the problem but a month or so later I found a mummy bluegill hiding under my seat😂😂 hopefully the smell will go away now😅
