    Excellent advice. Priorities for me has always been feet, hands, head then torso.
    However, you missed THE most important item to keep you warm: fat, Like an old badger I start piling on the pounds during the autumn; donuts, cake, chips, puddings etc. With a good layer of fat I find I can skip one layer of clothing. The only downside over the past few years is that I have failed to lose it in spring hence my rather rotund spherical appearance... 😊😊

    Muck boots are great ‘ but in very soft wet deep mud if they are not tight fitting ‘ u can step out of them with the suction ‘ with not to mention the consequences

    I have a pair of Arctic Muckboots and they're awesome for warmth. A bit clunky for walking (makes me feel like Frankenstein) but totally worth it. I'd wear the hiking boots & carry the muckboots if needed.

      Yeah I did the same thing end of last year, carrying a lot of my thick layers as well up the hill and the changing.

    Thank you Espen. This is super useful as I have just realized that I have not made the best choices and my hands still get cold despite decent photography gloves, so I will definitely look into the multiple glove idea, plus several of your other recommendations. Muchas gracias!!!!!

    Totally agree on the small disposable sachets they get very hot and the last from at least five or six in the morning through to lunch no problem at all in fact sometimes I get too hot.

    For, the feet are the number-one priority. It is your feet which are in contact with the ground.

    Happy Devold user here!
    My toughest experience in the cold was during my military service. We were camping (yes, tents) outside of Boden, Sweden, in minus 30 degr, C (-22F). I had all the military winter gear on plus my Helly Hansen all synthetic thick "undergarment". We was going to build a road over a bogland. I overheated and started sweating......... Yes, I am from the very south of Sweden....... that is actually 1000 miles long stretching from south to north.
    You learn.......

    Liked and Saved and on the purchase list. Thanks. Very useful.
    I have a set of those merino socks and they are excellent - even for indoors
    Those muck-boots are at the top of my list.
    Possibly add to take along extra batteries as cold drops charge-levels
    And if out in remote areas for long time, to always have some emergency lighting/beacon, some basic first aid, and long-life rations?
    ...and guessing your Mum is not taking orders :D

    Those heated soles seem like something for me! Frozen toes are the worst, got really bad when I stood still on ice for 4-5 hours a few years ago. Hurt like hell to warm them up afterwards.

    I don't really have problems with my hands during the winter it's my feet that I suffer with.. Especially when useing my photography hide.. Walking around is obvious different

    Wondering if Id be able to survive down to -50C with those gloves, or am I pushing it?
    I have a pair of the Heat Company Mitts, but only with a mid-weight liner. I want to try the 3 layer system as I get cold very fast and easily. But, hopefully I can wear it in arctic weather

    • @EspenHelland
      @EspenHelland  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      -50 😮 I’ve never been in anything that cold, but I think that is pushing it. Think you would need a lot of down gear including mitts. And heat packs!

    • @michaelfrymus
      @michaelfrymus 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EspenHelland like, right now it's -18C (-1F). And it's just the beginning of winter. Good luck when it's night time and you're on hiking up a mountain. Welcome to Banff, Alberta. lol

    • @michaelfrymus
      @michaelfrymus 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EspenHelland QUESTION about the mitts. Is there any insulation or a fabric on the inside of the zipper? The Heat Company gloves have a waterproof zipper, but there is no fabric behind it, so if I touch it with my fingers, I can feel the cold within.

    It's ironic how you use Marino Wool to keep your hands warm which comes from one of the hottest countries in the world. I can vouch for that because at 09.30am today it is 28 degrees centigrade
