Tory candidates face pressure to offer solutions to cost of living crisis

- As outgoing prime minister, Boris Johnson has said it was not his place to act on the energy crisis.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
That has put enormous pressure on his two would-be successors to come up with solutions.
So far that has involved little more than assurances which critics argue lack detail and fail to address the scale and urgency of the problem.
But is that now beginning to change?

This war is only making things tougher for the average Joe, prices going crazy globally and standard of living drastically dropping, I am literally scared for the future of the economy at this point. Everyone needs to brace themselves and get financially prepared for what's coming.
I feel the energy company could’ve cut their prices as this current inflation affect everyone or should individual workers start charging higher fee of their employer to make ends meet.
It's really awful because sometimes I tell myself to stay optimistic no matter what, yet I can already see that things are becoming worse and worse.
Things are getting dicey, and the sad part is that a lot of people won't realize how bad things are until it's too late.
I work two jobs which contributes a lot to my family and with this current inflation it’s increasing been difficult. I make an okay income but the price of things keeps increasing, it’s sad.
@@aaronfirtz2963 it’s really hard times, I had lots of ups and downs working different jobs. Glad my investments started paying off so I can quit them, my decision to put in some money valued and growth stocks has really saved me.
Liz Truss wants to cut taxes, Many Families in UK make 12,000-15,000 and don’t really pay Taxes and tax cuts won’t help them at all with Inflation and energy Bills.
Cut green levy tax on your gas for heating and fuel duty for your car. This will help reduce vat on energy and fuel which is 5 % increment since . Liz wants to cut National insurance which will help companies hiring more staffs. Reduce carbon tax on gas and fuel will also help everyone from heating offices for councils and businesses.
That's because she's not trying to help the poorest amongst us...
@@gha9543 I don't think levy tax plays a factor here, British gas made £948 million in 2021 and £1.3 billion profit this year alone. Yet still increasing the cost, It comes down to the time old greed.
Indeed. Tax cuts only help the wealthy as they pay the most tax to begin with. They do nothing to help the poor. But since when have Governments ever cared about the poor?
@@braxxian well the Government talks about helping The Poor before getting elected and once they are elected they forget their promises. That’s how it is in almost all countries and that’s a disgrace. I don’t think even poor want help but when the Governments create inflation and Energy Bills go up %250+ than They can’t make it.

No matter what they do or say, it won't be enough. There has to be action!
not sure what action can be taken
@@vkjfv I'm not in any way informed in legal matters. I wonder if the people could hold Ofgem accountable, they know these energy firms are making millions off the backs of the citizens yet still allowing the price hike.

Lizz Truss : Taxpayers having more money in their pockets. which means that the wealthiest ( who pay the most tax and would benefit most from tax cuts ) would benefit most. Tax cuts are neither here nor there for the many of us that earn so little that we can ill afford to pay any tax - and don`t, on those grounds. In short, for a person earning less than about £14,000 a year no tax is paid. What good will a cut income tax do them whilst their energy bills rise four fold ?

Liz want to cut taxes, which benefits those that pay the most in taxes, which would be the very people who are earning enough not to be bothered by the increasing cost of energy and inflation.
if you are on minimum wage, you pay very little in taxes, if any, so the amount of money you will get from any tax cut will be next to nothing if not nothing at all. this really doesn't help those that need the most help in paying the bills. or those who have worked all their lives making other people money and now live on a state pension that they have paid into all their working lives. they are the people who will be affected most.

Nah this is wrong! We as people in a democratic society need to vote on who should lead the country
You're right! The system needs to change.
The UK needs to get rid of the tories just like Scotland did years ago.
We are not a democratic country. We cannot vote for who we want. Russia is a one party state, the Uk is a two party state. You can only vote for who they tell you.
The same problems persist if you stick with the same system of (popular vote) electing the same corrupt politicians from the same corrupt political parties,. NONE of them can be trusted, because of the party system (whip's controlling the voting of individuals) and the limitations of democracy, you only get to vote for the selection of crooks you are presented with.
Politics should not be seen as a "Career",. it's a national service which people are employed to provide.
We need to select people who have proven abiities, rather than career politicians who have no experience of running anything, and are unaccountable when they fail. they just get shuffled to another department, and the tax payer deals with the chaos of their inabilities and inexperience.
The entire system from the ground up needs to be changed to eliminate the possibility of corruption for personal or financial gain, with accountability in legislation for gross incompetence.

@@dm32904 uh england is no longer in europe, go compare yourself to rwanda, india, pakistan and trump's america.
Uk should start comparing itself to the countries that used to be part the commonwealth, it would be way more precise.
@@CesarHILL oh really what continent did england move too, russia is the biggest land mass in europe and has the most natural resources, so to sanction it is economic madness
@@dm32904 honestly, There's a reason why everyone calls your capital Londongrad, with Lord Lebedev and civilians getting killed by a poison called Novitchok. So you might be on the flip side of geographically, but culturally, politically and civilly uk is like Putin's lap dog, I mean if the spot hadn't been taken by Trump Jr right before.
@@CesarHILL as far as i know lebedev is still alive, i would say it is more bidens lapdog, i admit the tory government is corrupt dodgy contracts in covid crisis showed us that, and johnson always made himself available to the highest bidder
