    The previous battery in my Grand Prix was an Optima Yellow which was installed in 2008, so it lasted for almost 12 years. Now it seems the best on the market is Odyssey. So I bought one and now my car starts like it should again: instantly. Paid almost $300 for it but it's good insurance from getting stranded somewhere.

      Johnson Controls bought Optima batteries and moved manufacturing to Mexico, I was watching a video by Scotty Kilmer that stated they also changed the type of lead used and is using an alloy mix which lowered the quality and longevity of the battery, yet their prices have not decreased only their profit margins have.

    Great video and demo, I am extremely impressed with the manufacturing process for Odyssey batteries and that they are still made in the USA, and are of the highest quality. What is the recommended voltage output for an alternator when using a AGM battery? I recently found a website selling custom 250 amp and 350 amp alternators with 14.8 volt alternator voltage regulators for AGM batteries on GM cars, is that the correct voltage that should be used?

    • @josemedeiros007
      @josemedeiros007 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I watched another Odyssey battery video that stated that the alternator voltage should be between 14.1 to 14.7 volts.

    400 cycles to 80% DoD but how many cycles to 50% DoD? The industry standard normally states/recommends 50% DoD max. Can I correctly assume about 700 to 800 cycles to 50% DoD? Also, what is actually happening to the battery that it limits the # of cycles? Which part of the battery is "wearing out"?

    Spoke to Bruce and Kathy a few times. Kathy in Tech know's her stuff. I will try an ODYSSEY one more time but this time I will put a PowerPulse PP12L on it to hopefully make it last. ODYSSEY said they tested it, but didn't see any benefit........ Another thing Kathy stated is to NEVER use any charger other than their's to charge these or the higher voltage will destroy the battery....... but they have a list of approved chargers:

    2020 Approved Charger list:

      If these batteries require a special "approved" charger, how can a car alternator charge(keep it charged) properly?
      Good question isn't it?

    • @chrispompano
      @chrispompano 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Jeff-sc1df From what I remember their tech support said it's critical that a car's alternator also NOT charge above 14.7-14.9 where many car-chargers will go above 15V during the different charging phases and they're charger have a charging "algorithm" or "program" that prevent over-charging which is why they have their chargers built to their specs. by Schumacher , at least they used to. I think it has to do with how thin their lead plates are and over-charging will overheat them. From what I remember their technology is ultra-thin plates this way they can stuff more in their for higher-capacity-longer-life.... Here''s their new approved charger list, so they definitely have voltage requirement along with I think at a certain pulsed frequency to desulfate them: www.odysseybattery.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/ODYSSEY_approved_12V_chargers.pdf
      Here's that tech-document on not charging above 15V. so if your alternator does, it will eventually ruin their battery: www.odysseybattery.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/ODYSSEY_Battery_Reconditioning_Charge_Procedure.pdf

      High output alternator for high power sound systems would probably ruin the battery one would assume.

    • @chrispompano
      @chrispompano 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Jeff-sc1df ....I think they're ONLY concerned about voltage, not amperage or a hi-output alternator..... I don't thin hi-output alternators increase voltage, or at least they really shouldn't unless they're meant to charge some special kind of audio sound-system battery, but I don't think.....have to check with the alt. mfg. or again check with Oddessy Tech assistance to see if a hi-amp alternator would ruin their battery.....

    Optima batteries used to be awesome but their quality has dropped over the years. What is the warranty on the Odyssey battery anyway? I've always wanted one and I can see now why they cost so much. However I need to know what the warranty is? Walmart still offers a 3 year replacement on their Everstart Maxx batteries and you can still get them for a 1/3 of the cost of an Odyssey. An Odyssey would have to offer a much better warranty if I'm going to pay triple the price of a Walmart Everstart Maxx battery. 🤔

      Great point, I was also wondering why they only have a three year warranty, I use to have the best Interstate battery for my 1998 BMW and it had a 7 year pro rated warranty and 48 month free replacement, but the replacement Johnson Control batteries they use now only have a 36 month warranty.
