It might not have the top of the line technology but remote start, Apple CarPlay, android auto, wireless charger, remote trunk release, you’re not missing the essentials 😊it’s a good solid choice for someone that wants reliable and safe fun!
Grand Cherokee is definitely tempting in terms of technology and luxury, but their reputation for reliability is piss-poor. Also to get one similarly equipped to even a base $42k Passport EX-L (leather, sunroof, memory seats) costs over $50k in Jeep world.
There's only one larger midsize SUV around $45k that I can think of which is quicker, the Edge ST. Chevy Blazer comes close, but I think the Passport still edges that out. Luxury models like the X3, Q5, GLC, Stelvio, etc. dont count, as those are considerably smaller.
Imo, this is a great vehicle. Practical, safe, reliable, affordable with good tech and features. Those wanting bigger screens, more tech, hybrids and more black plastic cladding, get a different vehicle. People need to remember you don’t need a bunch of fancy gizmos to get from point A to point B.
I currently own this car and while I know it's not the cream of crop in modern tech, it offers me a reliable and proven Honda VTEC V6, lots of storage space, easy to use controls, and more assurance driving in inclement weather. I just wish it had a traditional shifter (or Honda goes back to it as they did in new Accord and CR-V).
I’ve ridden motorcycles for 40 years and always paid close attention to the road ahead. I don’t need or want a big screen in a motor vehicle distracting my attention from the road. Back up camera is a great feature.
Whenever I hear that amazing 3.5L N/A V6, it makes me happy since this V6 is being phased out in a lot of Honda vehicles. I love that VTEC when it engages as well. Over 30 years of production means it’ll be hella bulletproof~~ ZF 9-speed, not the best transmission but it gets the job done and Honda/Acura definitely tuned the transmission the best compared to like FCA, which felt dreadfully lethargic. Also I still love the interior, however I am one who loves simple interiors, and due to Honda’s conservative nature, I am totally fine with it ~~ 👍👍
I have had my 2019 PP EX-L for 4 years/49k miles -still enjoy it. It is very quiet, stable and comfortable on the road. The V6 really is a gem and makes it a sleeper. I, too, like the simple touchscreen and real HVAC controls vs the giant tablets they are putting in most other cars these days. This vehicle w/ the V-6 should be an absolute home run for Honda but they keep jiggering it to offroad and stupid expensive options that the average person does not need or even want. Keep the V-6. Use the most modern transmission. Focus on the majority of buyers who use it on road 99% of the time and keep the price reasonable and you will sell all you can make.
Love the main concept of the Passport with V6 engine, tall & wide 2-row, and off-road capability. But Honda desperately needs to get it redesigned. The exterior design is very dated, being copy/pasted in 2019 off of the 3rd Gen (2015) Pilot. This is the second refresh with very few updates. Sadly, the Passport represents everything I want, but in an outdated package.
Thinking of buying one of these real soon. Have a 22 CRV, with the buzzy 1.5 turbo and cvt. Looking forward to a smooth running V6 and regular shifting transmission. I couldn't care less about the size of the display or non-led lights. It looks like a comfortable, roomy vehicle for road trips.
Hurry and scoop one of these up before Honda eliminates the VTEC crossover all together. Odyssey and Ridgeline will still have it (until their redesigns) but not on the Passport's redesign in 2025.
I much prefer the smaller display in my 2023 Ridgeline compared to the massive screens in other vehicles. I’m looking to upgrade to the 2024 for the revised and quicker infotainment system. The 2023 model year one is sluggish and the panel used in it’s not the best. That’s my only complaint about the infotainment system. I believe the screens are getting to be too big.
For me wait. To see if technology changes will be made. A good choice for those who want a midsized SUV, don’t need a 3rd row, still want a V6, cargo room and 18” wheels.
I really like the new Pilot, but do not have a need for a 3rd row. The Passport is ideal, but I am waiting to see if the next generation will be similar to that of the Pilot as far as tech, exterior, and powertrain is concerned.
I sat in one of these at the auto show and to my surprise, it’s one of my favorite cars from the show. It’s amazing how much room there is compared to the new Pilot. I can get over the outdated tech or lack thereof. That just means less things to fix down the road. And it has a V6 with 9-speed? I love Teslas but if I had to buy an ICE car, this is it.
My wife and I, both in our mid-50s, particularly appreciate the "old-school" layout of the Passport, which was a key factor in our decision to purchase this vehicle. In an era where distracted driving, such as texting while driving, is a major concern, we find it counterintuitive to see so many manufacturers increasing vehicle settings via touchscreen, like the VW Atlas Cross Sport. Being able to adjust frequently used settings such as temperature using well-placed, familiar knobs or buttons not only makes it intuitive but, in our opinion, safer and far more functional. Touchscreens can be fickle to operate, causing drivers to take their eyes off the road, and the cost of a replacement screen, post-warranty, can be prohibitive. We also find some touchscreens to be too large, extending well above the dashboard and, in our opinion, looking a little out of place. We are not looking to have an iPad Pro mounted to our dash. That said, we admit the Passport touchscreen is on the small side, but it tucks nicely into the dash and does what it needs to do. Additionally, the engine, albeit an old design, provides a level of reliability and predictability to ownership, giving us peace of mind in our purchase. Choosing to buy a 2024 model ahead of the much-anticipated redesign in 2025 was a very intentional choice on our part. I appreciate your easy-going, candid approach, production quality, and the wealth of accurate information you provide in each video. Looking forward to seeing more!
If you're really focused on your driving, should the size of the screen really be a dealbreaker ? NO. I like the integrated mini screen. At least it does not obstruct your view of the road.
Over 40k for the automotive equivalent of a household appliance??? Can't wait for 20 or so years from now when the average new vehicle price reaches 100k.
I dont know why people are comparing the passport to the pilot. Although, I think they should offer the same features even though they are different in size.
I so appreciate the smaller displays.....if I see a big display which I find distracting, I just move to a different vehicle or different year. Not going to invest that much money into something I would hate to see on my dash every day.
I would just wait for the new Passport based on the new Pilot, the huge improvements are worth it and for those who don't want a 3 row it'll be a good option. If Honda doesn't discontinue it
@@arielmischa8136I can’t speak for the rest of the USA but where I live in eastern Nebraska our local Honda dealer sells their Passports and Pilots quickly.
I notice Consumer Reports had this to say about the Passport: "There isn’t a good reason to choose the Honda Passport over the two better SUVs that Honda already makes-the smaller CR-V and the larger, three-row Pilot. We enjoyed the Passport’s plentiful power and roomy, two-row interior, but we were put off by its stiff ride, ponderous handling, and overall bland demeanor".
I traded in my 23 Honda pilot sport with the disappointing, non-VTEC. It went a step backwards, old school, 24 passport, black edition. I’d really wish it got the updated screen the Ridgeline has and that silky smooth 10 speed great combination found in the minivan.
I like the Passport but really want a hybrid drivetrain version. I've been disappointed at Honda's non-existent extension of hybrid technology to its truck line. Toyota has about a decade lead, which is unacceptable. I have a 23 Ridgeline currently and like it, but next time my choice will have to have a hybrid engine.
Supposedly they’re coming out with hybrid light trucks soon, we’ll see because I agree. Love my passport but I wouldn’t buy another car with this low mpg
one question, the specs on Honda's website shows a 100.8 cu ft of space in the back with the rear seats down, you mentioned 77 cu ft, which one is correct? Thank you!
No, the screen size is fine. Quit touching stuff while you're driving and pay attention to what you're doing. What Honda really needs to do is focus on QUALITY rather than digitize or computer chip anything else in their new builds. Bring back the Honda simplicity. Best Honda I ever owned was a 1998 Civic hatchback CX that was so basic I had to pay to have AC installed. The thing was a TANK. Miss that car so much.
This would’ve been my Jetta CC Atlas Cross Sport Arteon 5th time with Volkswagen, but after this last stint with them, I crossed over to the 24 Honda Passport Trail Sport. I now own a vehicle that will go to hell and back. I would never own a VW for free…👍🏼
I tested both today 😁😁 if you want sporty more of a crispy driving experience go for RDX. If your used to a truck driving feeling stay with the Passport. I live in western Canada I went with a Passport. The RDX was around the same price but definitely more delicate compared to this.
everyone complained about arm rests. So they fixed it. Next model loses the Vtec engine and puts in the 10 speed that many are having issues with. So Honda is holding off now.
I felt like it was empty inside when I drove it and got the CRV. I wanted to live this so much bc of the engine but I could t get past the dated interior.
I had a 2022 Elite. The only thing this car stands out is the n/a V6. Other than that it is dated and overpriced. Not worth buying a new one. And not to mention there will be a complete redesign for 2025 most likely. The depreciation of this car is really bad, probably the worst of the entire Honda product line. So find a lightly used one and save 10+ grands.
Not testing the off ride capabilities was such a miss for this review. The Fast Lane Car actually put it through various tests and the passport did pretty damn good. His overall review seemed more satisfied than yours.
More? Maybe more headaches in a few years. Hyundai cars don't last and don't hold their value like Hondas. Do you have an iPhone, Samsung or an LG? Because LG offers way more at the same price point, and they are no longer selling phones in the US because their quality control was terrible.
Hondas have better engines and transmissions that last longer. Look at their weak underpowered engines and their dual clutch tranny isn't the best either that's what my mechanic says 😢
The combination of LED and incandescent looks good. It would be even better with all incandescent. LED is fake, ugly, and unhealthy. The small screen is good. I don't understand why these guys scream for bigger screens. The old tried and true engine is reassuring. If they would just give this old school Honda a quiet cabin, it would be my choice.

It’s called inflation. Stimulus checks and war made it climb. Poor administration makes it even worse.
I'd take this over Pilot, CRV, and even HRV.
I dont know why people are comparing the passport to the pilot. Although, I think they should offer the same features even though they are different in size.
Excellent review! Thank you
Dear Honda: please, please make those fat exhaust tips an option on the Pilot. Pretty please.
There's a sport mode. You need to depress the drive mode a second time, and it shifts to sport.
I so appreciate the smaller displays.....if I see a big display which I find distracting, I just move to a different vehicle or different year. Not going to invest that much money into something I would hate to see on my dash every day.
I got a 19 touring model, i love it still and il wait till something better in the passport models come through since its nearly the same
I would just wait for the new Passport based on the new Pilot, the huge improvements are worth it and for those who don't want a 3 row it'll be a good option. If Honda doesn't discontinue it
i'm not from the USA, but i'm curious, does the Passport sell well there? or not?
@@arielmischa8136it’s no where near as popular as the Pilot or CRV but it sells decently well
@@arielmischa8136it’s not that unpopular but it’s also not that common. Maybe 1/3 the amount of pilots sold?
@@arielmischa8136It's selling pretty well with almost 40k units this year
@@arielmischa8136I can’t speak for the rest of the USA but where I live in eastern Nebraska our local Honda dealer sells their Passports and Pilots quickly.
The screen is fine.
When is the next generation passport due?
6.0 0-60 is very respectable for a car like this and with crappy CVT and or 4-banger turbo that falls off at higher rpm and sounds like crap.
I traded in my 23 Honda pilot sport with the disappointing, non-VTEC. It went a step backwards, old school, 24 passport, black edition. I’d really wish it got the updated screen the Ridgeline has and that silky smooth 10 speed great combination found in the minivan.
huge miss on the tech. Better screen and wireless carplay and I would definitely consider more strongly
Nobody wants a 4 cylinder in this though.
Get a Toyota RAV4 Prime SE. 80mpg. And only 50k. Made in Japan too. Only complaint is engine sounds awful because it’s a 4 cylinder.
the screen and no wireless CarPlay deal breaker
That is actually the old steering wheel. The new one on the pilot is different.
eager to see 2025 update matching new pilot interior
one question, the specs on Honda's website shows a 100.8 cu ft of space in the back with the rear seats down, you mentioned 77 cu ft, which one is correct? Thank you!
As a 23 trailsport owner im kind of butthurt the new ones get better tires.
Love it!!! ❤❤❤
Long live J35!
Miss that car so much.
for something like this they need a full size spare.
This would’ve been my
Jetta
CC
Atlas Cross Sport
Arteon
5th time with Volkswagen, but after this last stint with them, I crossed over to the 24 Honda Passport Trail Sport.
I now own a vehicle that will go to hell and back. I would never own a VW for free…👍🏼
I agree that the side view looks like they chopped off too much from the back.
I'd say buy now!! Because most likely, the 2025 will be doing away with the V6!!
thoughts on passport vs rdx?
I tested both today 😁😁 if you want sporty more of a crispy driving experience go for RDX. If your used to a truck driving feeling stay with the Passport. I live in western Canada I went with a Passport. The RDX was around the same price but definitely more delicate compared to this.
trailsport vs black edition. im on the fence ! trailsport is $4k cheaper
The shape or design of the vehicle is my issue. Front and rear view looks great. Side view gives me weird equinox, batters helmet, half van vibes.
I would definitely buy one but it has that stop start system in it so it would be a no go for me 😢
I used to love leather seats but now that I’m thinking about getting a dog I’m not sure if I want that anymore
It's almost like they didn't spend any money updating the interior at all.
everyone complained about arm rests. So they fixed it. Next model loses the Vtec engine and puts in the 10 speed that many are having issues with. So Honda is holding off now.
said the gauge cluster is from 2010, came out in 2017
also, the touchscreen is over 8 inches, not 7
Good engine, nice package. But please people.. don't take this thing off road. It's a grocery runner.
I felt like it was empty inside when I drove it and got the CRV. I wanted to live this so much bc of the engine but I could t get past the dated interior.
Why did Honda ditch v-teck???
Emissions.
You want the high beam to be incandescent you can see better
Ah. Someone who actually has real knowledge.
Brother, i love your reviews. Can you walk normally though, please? You make me nervous with your strategic pause-walk pace. Creeps me out xD
I’m not digging the black bezel on the infotainment screen. Just a personal preference.
"Ugly" phone wires? Thats an interesting perspective or the world
You can add in aftermarket wireless.
It’s Sofyan. It’s expected. You get used to it after 12 years.
S/b wireless CarPlay and charging for a 2024 😕
You sure didn’t like this. I love Honda. Why need a big screen. No need a distraction watch tv at home.
Nice car ❤❤❤❤❤🙏
New Passport coming 2025
It doesn’t have a 36” screen so it’s “dated?” Shut up.
Actually, i hope honda doesn't make the Passport any bigger
Sounds like dohc a now 😁
Screens twice this size is ridiculous
All that space with tri-zone climate control and no third row seating is laughable.
this thing is so uninspiring compared to the new one haha
Honda is slacking. Hyundai offers so much more at the same price point.
More? Maybe more headaches in a few years. Hyundai cars don't last and don't hold their value like Hondas. Do you have an iPhone, Samsung or an LG? Because LG offers way more at the same price point, and they are no longer selling phones in the US because their quality control was terrible.
I’d pay more for Honda reliability
@@bdawg8907 a fool and his money will soon be parted.
@@pharag4886 resale on a Honda is far better than a Hyundai, so I’d pay more and retain more value.
Hondas have better engines and transmissions that last longer. Look at their weak underpowered engines and their dual clutch tranny isn't the best either that's what my mechanic says 😢
If you ever wondered what Honda does when they have a bunch of old stuff to get rid of.....it ALL goes into the Passport 🙄.
Overall, honda styling in a slump. Bean counters won out.
The fact that I decided to go for a Tiguan instead of this, the Tiguan is nicer in almost every way but the engine is a huge let down
All this cost cutting and they still charging 50k. Send me out to pasture.
A 10 year old grand cherokee is better equipped than this thing.
Why would one want a huge computer screen in their car? I don't understand.
I've read elsewhere that in sand mode 70% power goes to the rear........For those of Us that enjoy RWD, Can We run sand mode ALL the time..????.................Paul
