As someone working 10 years doing 3d, hand drawing isnt useless, I'll explain why , sitting in front of computer screen all the time gets very tiring to the point that on weekend you'd rather not do it at all, hand sketching on the other hand is much less tiring for your eyes and if you master it for concepting you can generate some really cool design options without ever staring at the screen

Unfortunately for me the background music in this video almost drove me to turn the volume off and simply watch. I’ve enjoyed a large number of your videos and this is the only one that had background music that I had thought detracted from the content. (I gave it a thumbs up anyway based on the content). I understand that there are a wide range of tastes with regards to music so it’s entirely possible that I’m in the minority with this one.
I apologize for the complaint, especially after you’ve done the work necessary to put the video together. I’ll continue to watch your videos either way-I’ll just enjoy them more with a different genre of music.

Sure, they were just 2 dimensional views. Side view, end view and plan.
Awesome videos. Do you ever just jump right into CAD to flesh out ideas, or do you always work on sketches first?
I tend to ideate on paper or in my head, so it’s unusual for me to get into CAD unless I already have a reasonably resolved idea.

Just discovered your channel. Great stuff! Any reason why you are (from the three vidz I've watched so far) drawing directly with a pen as opposed to pencil?
Thank you. Definitely good to be able to pick up any instrument and start sketching, so it’s worth practising with a range of equipment. To answer your question, using a pen keeps the designer honest and encourages him/her to work quickly. With a pencil, there’s always the option to rub out mistakes. If I know I can rub out my work, I will start to tighten up and work carefully.... when it’s not perfect, I will rub it out and have another go. With this interruption, my train of thought will suffer. With experience and confidence, pen will encourage me to work more loosely and creatively. I hope this makes sense. All that said, I’ll be doing some pencil sketching videos soon.

Excellent videos. Thanks very much for sharing. Just one point; your orthographic drawings in this video are neither 1st angle or 3rd angle. It sounds like you are from the UK which means that it should be 3rd angle but either way it's important to be consistent. Thanks again and keep producing these fantastic resources.

If I’ve understood you correctly, the side view contains info on depth and height. The top (plan) view contains info on width and depth and the front view contains info on width and height. Hope this helps.

Nano byte I really value your feedback, thank you. Yes, I agree that the music is too loud on this video. I hope that’s not true of all of them though. It’s difficult to get a feel for the volume levels sometimes, and finding the right music is tough. I hope it’s something that I’m getting better at with time. I guess we’re all learning! Maybe subtitles are a less sleep inducing alternative to my voice too!

can anybody tell me where can i learn to plot in perspective view when orthographic views are given i looked into scott Robertson but it doesnt give in orthographic views it plots directly
I’m not sure what you mean, sorry. This video shows how we might use 2D sketches (such as orthographic projection elevations), to sketch in 3D perspective.

Question: when doing a side view of an object (camera,ship,helicopter,car) how do i do an appropiate top view WIDTH for the object that turns out good in perspective...
Or do i just have to guess about an appropiate top view width and hope it turns out good?

Sorry, I didn’t see your question until now. When you’re building a sketch, you’d be working on your observation of the object. If you’re working from your imagination, then I think you would go on your feeling of what is proportional. If you’re working with construction lines, you can change your mind as your sketch progresses. Sorry I can’t be of more help in this way. It would be easier to demonstrate on paper of course! I need a laboratory sketch
I've been into product sketching recently. What makes me hard is the drawings look too stiff that when i try to add details it becomes too complicated and hard to understood eventhough that details should be there? 😿
Maybe have a think about line weight. Keep your lines nice and light, then only make the important ones a little darker. Your whole sketch will tell the story without getting over complicated.

this is a great video, but the 3D object doesn't work with the side view, end view and plan view at 4:55 in the video. It just doesn't go together. sorry for the complaint.
Looks like I’m missing a single line on the side view (where the ends taper), but otherwise I’d say it’s all good. The principle is the important thing.

These would be so much more useful if you went through it in real time and not sped up. I’d love to see a course on this with a project taken from start to finish seeing all of the steps and explanations along the way. Show us the entire process and teach us your why’s along the way
I agree but sadly, longer form content has really poor analytics for me (people don’t stay watching for long). This results in YT thinking it’s unpopular so they don’t push it onto people homepages. When videos don’t get watched, there’s little incentive to keep producing them. My motivation is to pass on (and keep alive in some cases) skills that I have taught myself through years of teaching others.
However, I am writing and producing some courses at the moment. These will go through all my processes in fine detail and will include lots of exercises that will make them accessible to anyone wanting to learn.

gotcha...funny because was gets me to move on is when the content speeds up and you learn nothing about the process. I was thinking more of a patreon type of system...design a course or a project or possibly "go live" and take donations during live stream. Like david finch does on his monday draws series. Anyway. Love your content but I'm here to learn not just watch neat stuff come to life
@@agradoville yeah, it’s tough to appeal to everyone and even more difficult to get the algorithm to work for you. Even if I wasn’t doing this around full time work, there still wouldn’t be enough hours in the day 😀

Thanks for your valuable feedback. It’s very difficult to cater for all tastes in a video that only gets promoted by TH-cam if people watch the whole video from start to finish. Slower videos tend to perform less favourably. The good news is that I’m creating courses at the moment that will cater to people who have the time and interest to go more deeply into these methods.

It does take a lot of time and patience. It could be a load of other factors.... are you relaxed, or stressing about not improving (then tightening up)? Are you locking your fingers and wrist (you should be)? Etc etc

@@roshnirana4573 imagine you’d broken your wrist and you had it put in plaster. It would stay locked in one position. Try not to pivot around your elbow, but move from your shoulder instead.
