    - For anyone wishing to make their own Shark Chum and traces we have videos on The FishLocker Workshop channel. We have had several people ask if they may contribute towards trips like this and our videos in general, for this we have now begun a Patreon. Thank you and have a wonderful day. 😊👍🏻🎣🦈 www.patreon.com/TheFishLocker

      I was taught using chum is cheating. But that's for cage diving I guess. That cage diving shit is destroying shark populations every sing place tourism places go. Easier for them to use the people as a pay day than go catch fish. Sickest though is Japan with dolphins. There is a city that legally allowed to "harvest" dolphins. 100+ pods every single day they trap in a cove and then walk in with Spears and stab. It's disgusting. They started selling it as tune and half community almost died from poisoning since aquatic mammal animals have insane amounts of Mercury. Yeah ladies. Your skin absorbs shit. So your poisoning yourself every time you put it on and also killing a dolphins, since they killed off most whales

    Just found your channel. Really like it. I'm originally from the Outer Banks of North Carolina, but live in the mountains now. I saw a lot of Great White sharks being caught off Beaufort, South Carolina so far this year, big ones. What kind of sharks do you generally catch in the UK? And what size? Looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos.-CJ

    Another cracking video. Having got a drone, now our hero transforms into John Cousteau as I think that’s the first footage of a fish under water and near the boat. In a recent vid I saw John and James on board and this is not an aircraft carrier he’s fishing from. Which makes me challenge The Fish Locker when he says « the key to this kind of fishing is... » Clearly the key to the idea of pulling a blooming great shark onto a floating bath tub is to let John take all the risks, while we watch from the comfort of our armchairs😉🐟👍Good on you JL. Stay safe everyone.

    Another great adventure recorded for posterity and our viewing pleasure. I remember when my Uncle Barry use to go shark fishing out of Looe in the late 60s 1 shark was a result 7 would have been unheard of. Just goes to show catch and release is the only way to maintain stocks of these fabulous predators. The underwater film of the penultimate shark swimming away was terrific. Really enjoyed this video. 👍😊🐟🎣

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      - Thank you mate. Between you and me, the shark fishing was better in those days than currently as far as shark populations go. Catch and release is 100% working but we still aren't up to the good old days levels. Anglers have just refined the way we target them over the years. Also, Looe although it is historically the Mecca of shark fishing that is a lot to do with that being where the Shark Angling Club is based. Shark fishing in Penzance and Falmouth was always better by location. 😊

    Great video John. You'll probably know this mate but the name gurnard comes from the Old English verb 'gurn' or 'girn' meaning to cry, or moan, or complain. Which is what they do in the boat! Hi thank you for posting this video. Stuck in my sick bed watching this and thinking how shark fishing has evolved since my first trip in 1970. We used heavyweight 50 or 80 pound gear with huge, heavy Penn Senator reels, which were no fun as the smaller blues could just be winched to the boat and there was no catch and release everything was gaffed and it was considered normal to kill the shark to pose for a dockside photo. How could we be so short sighted!! Regards Bill

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      - I am so thankful that mindsets and attitudes have changed mate. Sadly we still have a few of the old guard that see those as “the good old days” my answer to then usually is “Is it not enough to know that you have won? That in a battle of wits and strength and skill that you have beaten the animal. That you have to kill it for a photo?” Glad you are a fisher of the modern times mate. 😉👍🏻🎣🦈

      As I said in a previous reply, a friend of mine went shark fishing in the 80s and showed me the pics of his trip - the boat was covered in blood and there were dead sharks everywhere; I remember being really shocked and very upset at this sight. Just finished watching John & no, you can't complain!! A conservative estimation of the weight of that last shark in my view but does it matter? A disappointing day's fishing for you would be a red letter day for anyone else, you literally are sea fishing in the UK personified & you're doing it all alone!! Going back to the start of the video when you say your lunch is rudely interrupted
    by a bite, every angler worth his salt can relate to that experience, I've been carp fishing in the past & not had a run all weekend when I've answered the call of nature or started tucking into some scran only for a screaming run to develop, sometimes the fish is still on, sometimes they drop the bait but at the end of the day it's known as sod's law!! I had to look quite a few times as it wasn't too clear but I reckon a cuckoo wrasse might have been the bait that caught that last shark? Enjoyable as usual John, encyclopedic & knowledgeable are two adjectives that spring to mind when I watch your videos, all the best pal!

    Hi John,
    I've just watched your video and it's all very familiar to me. Thought it was about time to place a comment in your channel, haha.
    I love shark fishing from a small boat myself, which I do now and then near where you fish- the south coast of Cornwall- and also the south coast of Ireland, which is a similar fishery. My compliments on how you show your passion for fishing. I've read some of the comments on your videos and you're often referred to as the teacher, which I think is very true. Being a teacher myself (horticulture) I remember your video where you were explaining about all the wild plants growing around the coast. Very interesting and entertaining!
    Good work, keep it up !!
    Actually I've only just returned from a fishing trip to Cornwall 5-12 August and fished very near the area you always fish, but then at the eastern side of Dodman Point, St.Austell Bay/Fowey area. Went around the Dodman one day and caught some nice bass around Gull rock. Even thought of you a few times as you might have been around fishing yourself any of those days.
    Shark fishing wasn't great as there was very little movement in the sea. Small tides and very little wind for the the last few days of that week..Hardly any drift and rubby dubby that went all over the place but not in the desired straight line as you described yourself in this video. For beach lovers, the weather was fantastic though.
    My last fishing day was very special though. Not so much because of the number of fish caught, but this feeding frenzy I witnessed. Earlier in the week I had noticed a few smaller feeding sessions of birds with dolphins in St.Austell Bay, but this one was quite spectacular as there were whales and tuna joining the frenzy . Thought you might be interested.
    Type "Cornwall wildlife spectacle at sea" and you'll find it.
    Meanwhile, keep on posting nice videos and I will check them all out. Might meet you at sea sometimes next summer!!
    Best regards,
    Bart van Lohuizen, the Netherlands

      @TheFishLocker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      - Hello Bart. This is a very small world that we live in. I must confess that I have seen your videos before. I remember watching you fishing for blue sharks from an open boat on the north coast of Cornwall several years ago ( possibly and Orkney strikeliner style ) Having checked my phone I was actually fishing nearer towards the Dodman on the 10th August. It wasn't great weather the week previous but towards the end of your trip it was roasting hot wasn't it. It would be good to meet you on the waves some time. Take care, stay safe and have a wonderful day. 😊👍🏻🎣🦈

    Got a goofy question for you brother. Wouldn't the chum chunk last longer if you left it in the bucket and put the whole thing into the laundry bag? Just seems like having one exit as opposed to the water dissolving the chunk too quickly, might make it last longer????? Who knows??? Coming home from work and seeing you’ve made a new shark fishing video has made my evening! Great to be part of your trip and learn more from you. I still can’t understand why dolphins avoid the bait, and the sharks go for it. But that’s another discussion... in this video and the previous shark video you were going for blue sharks. Is there specific bait for different shark species? Would you fish any differently for a faster mako for example? Utterly fantastic videos as always. Thankyou for your huge efforts. Keep them coming.

    • @TheFishLocker

    Must be great to catch a shark, we don't have them in the North-sea, the last years we are able to catch some small ground sharks and what a cracking whiting, its years a go i have seen a whiting from that size, here if you have one from 40cm then you must fill in a lottery ticket!!

    John.. have you ever gone out and caught 'four coalfish'.. (phonetically pronounced with a regional accent... fookallfish).. ;-D
    I catch 4 regularly, although had a cracking day out last week.. first codling of size to be a meal, and first conger (strap). Pin pouting and whiting are in early this year South Wales..

    Hello again from Oz & another great video John, I had to smile about the sandwiches, it must be an international law as my fishing buddy & myself often joke about getting out the sandwiches or pouring a coffee to get a bite. Never fails ha ha, just a bit of info on the Gurnard we have here in South Australia, I once spiked myself on one & it was the most painful wound I have ever experienced, the Gurnards here have some type of venom/toxin which is very very painful.
    I've added a link to the result of a sting from our Gurnard, it's a pargraph a bit below the picture of the Gurnard.

    WHAT magnificent critters; those blue sharks! Interesting weather conditions you were fishing in, that lowish cloud front that was behind you most of the fiim. I don't know the difference between cold, warm fronts etc.
    WHY don't dolphins go for your bait?

    Your lady wife and myself are of like mind regarding gurnard! Finest eating fish in the sea. Twenty years ago I can remember being horrified watching a crew in Tenby loading them up as pot bait because they couldn’t sell them. Can’t get them for love nor money these days as they’ve become fashionable. Which I’m happy for the inshore fishermen because they need all the help they can get but I’m not so happy that I can’t get them any more! Get your lady to do us a catch it and cook it with gurnard sometime. All the best to the Fishlocker family👍🎣

    Thanks for the video. I do love seeing Sharks of any type and its always fun to watch. Dolphins, I have read, will team up on sharks if they feel threatened especially when they have a baby in the pod.
