Kerb weight is 194.5 kg and not 185 kg
    Tripper is not standard
    Center stand is not standard

I double checked the spec sheet I was sent and they say “185kg kerb weight (without fuel)” so I guess the 199kg for the Himalayan is with fuel? My bad but also just going off the info they gave me which is a bit misleading. Also it definitely says in the UK press release that the Tripper comes as standard, so perhaps it’s different across other markets? Either way I’ll pin your comment for others to see re the weight 👍👍👍

Triumph could buy the entire stock, repaint them (so that’s a special edition, don’t you know) and sell for 3x the price. Form, function and cool - awesome job RE

Not so sure there. 3x is what £15000. Which gets you a 1200cc scrambler fully spec or a Rally Pro 900. Both have significantly more tech and quality. However I do like this new RE and am moving to a country where I will be considering it

I had a gold coloured one of those, one of my all time favourite bikes. Am 63 now had over 40 bikes. Loved the 2 stroke and off road ability. 0-60 was as fast as my mates ho da cb360. At the time it felt fast. I have gone back to a smaller bike i can thrash and red line which takes me back to my younger days. Modern bikes have unneeded power that is electronically controlled. If they still made that dt175 I would buy one. I think this is ugly compared to the yamaha. Itest rode a himalayan but just too slow for me, also tried an interceptor which i liked. Why dont they put the 650 engine in this.? Even if just an option for Europe or US as I realise the asian market are lower cc. Great effort by re who are not skanking people like overpriced triumphs

I too am 63 yo and I have the same tastes in his as you have indicated. Can't count how many I've had over the years. My favorite enduros were my two 1975 Yamaha DT400s and my two Yamaha XT500s. Simple, cheap, easy to work on (fixed my DT400 shifter pawl broken spring with a rusty carburetor spring in a field once). Not like a lot of these fugly, expensive electronic wonders.. The older bikes just look better.

I honestly love this. I still have a soft spot for my Himalayan, it was a fun single will loads of character, it was genuinely a blast off the pavement. The low down weight, the gear ratio, and torque on offer, it all just hit the sweet spot for me. Sometimes you don't need to change something when you've hit that mark already. I look at this and imagine being 17 again, with a passion for Scramblers, Sleds and Trackers, without a bulging piggy bank, but wanting to buy new and carry that RE name. This nails it. I've got their Meteor on loan at the moment, and love the cockpit, Tripper and just the nature of a single. I don't think any other manufacturer comes close in terms of accessibility, affordability and sheer value for money. I could honestly imagine owning one alongside my Scram 1200, as a commuter and back lane hacker. RE are smashing it. The only downside for me, would be the drop in ground clearance, and lack of a bench seat option.

I didn’t like this at first, but it’s growing on me and would suit my preference for back roads and light trails. I really need to sit on a Himalayan to make sure my 6 foot frame doesn’t dwarf the bike.

Im just about 6 foot tall and 210lbs and I couldn't even flat foot a himalayan. Its a super tall bike. I feel like the scram being a little shorter might be the best bet

Man that’s a hard choice. I was seriously getting ready to pull the trigger this week on a Himalayan, but now I’m perplexed and need to think this all over again. The 411 is sharp looking. Also I would have no problem taking that thing off road over small jumps, or even cruising back roads that are dirt or gravel for ten miles straight! I honestly think I’m gonna hold of on the Himalayan and go with the 411. I’m so glad I found this video. #RoyalEnfield #BritishOldSchoolBikes.

Bought a scram 411, great for scenic highways, and back roads (dirt/gravel) the comfort of the seat was a major decision maker as I enjoy day trips (100-200 miles). This is my 2nd RE (meteor supernova), wanted something of dirt/gravel roads

The other main changes include, the handlebar now sits 60mm lower and brought 20mm closer to the rider and the headlight position is lowered a little bit as compared to the himalayan, and the suspension is little bit tweaked to match the scram nature and also the ABS is now not switchable which is unlike himalayan

  • @alansenecal5548

Like the Himalayan but now, at 73 years old, I think I'd like the new Scram 411. Mostly small town and rural roads for me. At 6'3" tall, the loss of a little seat height might be a bit different but hopefully not a problem. Also, loved my big bikes, 650s up to 1200s but those days are gone for me. I just want something to cruise around on with a little back road riding once in a while. Thanks for your great review.

It's nice, better than the himalayan, but they could have made it look a little better. It's a bit of a half arsed job. Just a smidge more effort in styling, maybe a better looking exhaust, flatter seat and a special tank, could have made it look far nicer and completely separated it from the himalayan. At that price, I'd rather buy a used himalayan and scrambler it myself! Now, if they made a scrambler 350!........

Looks interesting as I wouldn't be using one for anymore than some easy trail/ backroads exploring I wouldn't feel comfortable doing on my CB500F with its fat 17"inch front wheel.
I'm also interested to see difference between change over price CB500X. Red and white looks pretty snappy. At present in Australia, petrol is at $2.20 AUD - higher in the regions. A 19" front wheel appeals to me a lot more than a 21".

A few points I would like to make. First my background: riding for almost 60 years and a Honda BMW Ducati dealer since 1979. That said in your reviews I would like fuel capacity taken into consideration when giving curb weight. I want to know if a bike has tube type tires. I want to know if valve stems are readily acceptable ( Honda is bad about this ). I also want to know if a bike has a hydraulic clutch ( MotoGP bikes have this for a reason). And lastly ( but important ) does a bike have a center stand, if not is it available as an option. Hope you read this, if so thank you for your time. I also greatly enjoy your reviews. One of if not the best in my opinion, David Bodden

Oh, almost 60 years riding! Well, well.
Is that riding a wee scooter around grandad's farm on sunny summer Sunday afternoons?
Maybe you mean well, but appealing to self and time as an authority-here, is irrelevant.
I would trust a kid of 1-2 years that tears it up, builds his own bike and eats bugs vs yer 60. Clear?

I had the himalayan and must say it has bags of character. However it was let down with some quality issues, headstock bearings not greased properly and failed at 12k miles. Rusting pannier rails within 1yr, gear selector sensor failure and misting cloak issue twice. RE were impossible to contact and poor dealer support. If you buy make sure you gat a good dealer there are some out there and don't be put off by the Hp stats it's a great engine and will pull 2 up on long journeys
Hope they have improved the quality

  • @viswasrujith8426
    @viswasrujith8426 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Bikewale of India stated that they are in touch with credible source within RE that they are going with a 450 cc Himalayan with 40 to 45 bhp and liquid cooled with a 6 speed gearbox maybe released in 2023
It is named as project K1 as it's a new engine model.
Re want to play it safe by making a 450 Himmy before a 650, as it will be a too heavy.
They want to give a similar power of 650 with a 450 and try to keep the weight as low as possible.
The main issue with the Himalayan in European and American markets is that they want Himalayan to have atleast 40 or 50 bhp with similar amount of tourqe. So naturally they wanted the RE twins engine in the Himalayan.

It's an interesting concept, I admit. I like the looks, but as a city-oriented bike, it simply need more power. I own a Himalayan, and really like it for what it is, I've put a lot of miles on it on road trips, both secondary roads as well as off-road. It is however very tough to move around traffic with a 0-60 of a Prius. Maybe I'm just conditioned by years of owning machines with many times the HP, but I don't see myself ever commuting on a bike like this in the city. The 650 motor would've been perfect for this application I think, while keeping the Himi with the 411.

The new RE scram 411 is an intresting choice along side with the Himalayan. Design Wise its good looking bike. Its still a road focus Himalayan. Royal Enfield has tried to make it different but not quit yet thier. However there are some things that looks good like the cockpit that looks clean and simple even though it Misses a rev counter. The colour choices are also good to. The engine Performance is decent enough, but RE could have given a different tuning for the scram 411 to give it a unique character. Glad it looses some wait. The Himalayan was a hard bike for city rides especially through traffic and city.
They should have changed the mirror, those mirrors looks bad and useless.
Overall Royal Enfield has done a good job by introducing the scram 411 for those who want a fun to Ride scrambler bike for daily usage. It doesn't bring any benchmarking to the segment.
Still its a nice choice to have.

thanks for the shout out about imperial vs US gallons. never quite got that. Now..having said that, the liters per kilometer, or whatever is really greek to me. I always appreciate TH-camrs posting stats in metric and ... standard, or whatever non-metric is called. (maybe antiquated?). Now when i hear MPG (imperial) i'll just subtract a bit for the US.

I’ve never ridden a Himalayan or similar, and I wonder how it/ this would perform on the m11 stretch of my commute. The closest I’ve ridden was the Fantic Caballero which wasn’t massively happy at those speeds but did a decent job.

Ive had mine for about 3 years and, whilst I am fortunate that its not my only bike so the high speed fix I get from my guzzi scratches that itch, I love the Himalayan and it gets more use than any of my other bikes. For a short motorway commute its okay but you would notice the lack of power however I drove my down from France to Spain and back without any issues. As for falling apart, well mines been fine. When I relocated to France at the end of 2018 the Himalayan came with me, the Multistrada got sold!

For me, the utilitarian look of the original Himalayan is much more appealing, sets it apart from anything else I'm likely to see. At my age, I'm not about to start doing any technical off road riding, but the idea of being able to if necessary is nice. At my age, I can't see myself wrestling with the larger more powerful bikes, should they fall into a ditch...

I think the RE's are cool but as a US consumer I wonder about parts availability. I bought the Suzuki DR650 because it's a bit bigger and the parts I can absolutely get from any dealership.

Can't wait to test the Scram 411 as soon as it is available in Europe/Germany. The Scram 411 in White Flame would be my choice. And if doesn't suit me well, there is the Interceptor 650 I still need to try out as well ;)

Yeah, I’d love to have one, looks great, looks like it’ll be fun on the road and be happy with a bit of light off road fun out of the box...a scrambler! Hope RE can offer at a good price in the UK and resist the temptation to chase Triumph’s premium pricing.
