    My first electric guitar as a boy was a Watkins rapier 33 bought second hand off a neighbour for £15 in 1969. It was so great looking compared with others back then....

    That Rapier and Laney rig sounds great, and what great value for money for a gigging rig! I’m impressed.

    The other guitarist in our 60s band had a Rapier, nice to see it back! Not the same obviously, but they've captured the vibe I reckon! Looks nicely made.

    My schoolmate in the 60s bought one of these. He was left handed and it was just about the only affordable guitar available. I think it was about £30. Another school pal had a Harmony H75 which we drooled over!

    My first electric guitar was a Rapier 22 (couldn't afford the extra pickup!). I was heartbroken when it fell over and a 50p sized chunk of paint came off, leaving bare wood. I never felt the same about it again!!!

    Still got my '33' from the 60s. Just a few steps away from "Trigger's" broom syndrome. It's had new tuning pegs, respray etc. Lost the whammy bar (it was called a tremelo arm back then:-) It was a wreck when I bought from a school mate for 10/- (50p).

    Not a BAD sounding guitar Jamie! A Strat style with a different vibe going on! Those pick ups are nice, tho the mid & neck maybe a little dark! Bridge was perfect! \m/

    how did you get the laney guitar amp sounding so good I have heard one exactly like the one in the video and it always sounded very distorted

    • @guitarist
      @guitarist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi William, Jamie here. It was actually not too difficult - used the clean channel and just kept channel volume low and master at moderate volume. Pickups on the Rapier aren't mega hot either, so it was fine. It does do great dirty tones but I tend to use pedals into a cleanish amp so that's really what happened here. Also, if you do use one it's as well to take note it has both a high- and a low-gain input to plug into. The latter is attenuated by around 50 percent in terms of signal hitting preamp stage. Plug into that input and even a hot sounding guitar will clean up a bit. For what it's worth, it's a nice amp.

    Hate that it's got truss rod adjust the headstock ,not sure but I don't think the original had .Aesthetic no no for me ,lovely clean playing and it sound fatter than a strat.Nice tone .

      Having a truss rod is always advantageous over not having one.

    • @solomonsanchez1897
      @solomonsanchez1897 ปีที่แล้ว

      The originals had a cover over the adjust at the headstock. You could always buy a plastic cover to remedy that aesthetic no no, but I doubt that would satisfy you.
