This was the first Pacino movie I ever watched when I was in high school. Wanted to see what the hype was about. His performance literally tattooed on my mind for nights and years after. Became my favorite actor ever since and started my love for classic movies.
I read a book by Sidney Lumet : the director of ‘Dog day afternoon’. In that he said, that in the 1st take they had a problem in the camera and Al Pacino finished the take and Sidney Lumet said, “Al, back to the top I want to go again.” To which a frustrated and exhausted Al Pacino said, “What?! You’re kidding.” But Lumet went for the second take anyway. And in the 2nd take Al Pacino gave such a brilliant performance that it had Sidney Lumet in tears and Al Pacino accidentally looked at him mid - scene. So at the end of the phone call it’s Al Pacino looking at a teary eyed Sidney Lumet. And that’s amazing!
Chris Sarandon was pitch perfect as Leon. Incredibly believable improvised dialogue. Also, the way Leon held his robe together, almost a gesture of modesty, was brilliant.
"Sal wanted to go to Wyoming. I had to tell him it's not a country. He don't know where Wyoming is. I'm with a guy who don't know where Wyoming is. Think you got problems?" ROTFLMAO
this scene is brilliant, his reaction to the realization that it all was for nothing was perfect. Imagine you were a king or some sort of ruler, you started a war that cost millions of lives over something that wasn't true, something that someone told you that turned out to be a bad joke. How would you react?
Not entirely for nothing. Even though the robbery was a bust and the real Sonny (John Wojtowicz) was ultimately arrested, the money he made selling the rights to his story allowed him to pay for Leon's (Elizabeth Eden) reassignment surgery.
Even if you watch this scene with the volume muted, you can still feel Pacino's pain and regret with the "Oh I dunno y'know, life's so funny" line. It's such a bittersweet moment and is probably my favorite one in a film comprised entirely of great moments.
Al Pacino is such a legendary actor. His performances in every freaking movie is out of the world, he is so versatile that I sometimes ask myself is it really Al Pacino?! What an actor!🙏 always an ardent fan of his.
Chris Sarandon was fantastic. I totally believed the relationship between Leon and Sonny, and Sarandon gets extra respect for avoiding camp and mugging.
Al Pacino is amazing, absolutely phenomenal. I would say one of the best actors of our time. He captures and conveys every subtle emotion that Sonny is going through as the fickled, self-absorbed and selfish Ernie basically blows him away and Sonny realizes that he sacrificed himself for someone who doesn't care for him or love him. And the real Ernie was incredibly callous and selfish. After John Wotjowicz paid for his sex change operation with the proceeds from the movie rights that he sold, Ernie said that he never wanted to see him again! The late Wotjowicz ended up cutting his veins and he almost died.
Hey 'SouthCanada', I jut thought I'd mention that the incident wasn't all for nothing...at least Sonny got 20 years worth of free meals and shelter outta it! LoL but seriously though, this movie would've been considered an independent film if it wasn't made in the 70's with Pacino in it. Nevertheless it was one of the greatest movies ever made.
And then just for kicks he decided to impersonate the king of Florence. Unfortunately, he was discovered and executed. Now he's a well-dressed skeleton, nicknamed The Pumpkin King.
The phone conversation was actually improvised by both actors. Brilliant!
When you think about it.. it really does 🤩
The Scene was unemotionally , by a String wish of Pacino
Back when talent and art and subtlety existed
You can just see the pain in his eyes :(

John Emmanuel Bautista same here!
This whole telephone scene was improvised by both Pacino and Sarandon. Brilliant

Al Pacino was SO HOT in this movie.
Totally devastatingly, drop-dead gorgeous! The most beautiful man ever!
Exquisite.
Totally, he's completely soaked in sweat.
No
They turned off the air conditioning in the bank. They were all hot.
Pacino virtually mugs you with his dazzling performance.
This is the best description of Al’s art I’ve read.
What is this this pretentious bs 😂
"Sal wanted to go to Wyoming. I had to tell him it's not a country. He don't know where Wyoming is. I'm with a guy who don't know where Wyoming is. Think you got problems?" ROTFLMAO
Chris Sarandon is also Jack Skellington. I met him last year, and my god, he‘s the nicest actor I’ve ever met.
Antonio J. H Mantilla You’re so lucky he also must’ve been very charming
TakerMJCSFAn Oh hell yeah he was, and he also told me to say hi to my dad for him. :)
Who was the worst?
Man those telephones made great props.

Tell that to George W. Bush.
M. C. B. Exactly 😂
Plot of The King on Netflix.

Al is the best actor EVER!!

Al Pacino is an outstanding actor.
the way he said "bye" though
last phone conversation of Al Pacino in the film is utterly phenomenal! what an actor! that intensity! it couldn't be more real..
So epic acting
Fun fact: The same guy that played Leon went on to do the voice of Jack Skellington in the Nightmare Before Christmas
Chris Sarandon gave an amazing performance. All of the actors and actresses did.
Chris Sarandon was fantastic. I totally believed the relationship between Leon and Sonny, and Sarandon gets extra respect for avoiding camp and mugging.
Great to see Prince Humperdink in this scene.
And the cop from child's play.
Chris Sarandon 😊 and Al Pacino
Epic performance by the great Al!

+Rayarena And he was initially turned down at The Actors Studio.
and this is improvised too!
@@rayarena879 Elizabeth* * not Ernie. She was a woman. A jerk, yes but like you're going out of your way to misgender her
Michael and Judy.
these two actors’ portrayals … i was mesmerized, completely pulled in
Charles Durning was a WWII Army vet who fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
I love this part 😂😂is it suppose to be funny idk but Sonny & Leon have me in tears. Al Pacino played Sonny Wortzik soo perfectly!
forgotten great movie
Thanks for uploading this movie 💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
I didn't even know Prince Humperdinck/Jack Skellington played Leon until after watching this film a few times.
He actually invented an accent
For sure! It was a great movie.
Moretti, MORETTI is that you???!
Simply brilliant...
...is it me or does Leon looks like a really young Eric Andre?
It's you. It's always you.
She kinda does
Chris resembles Al. Mostly in other movies like Halloween and Fright Night.
panicos a fuckin cutie omg
This is the 2nd take of a previously filmed improvised scene
I can't believe that Jerry Dandrige...
Their relationship is my Roman Empire
This was parodied on Bob's Burgers. LMBO!
Russy Jody Ya lol
+Ricky
PppllRay I &
+Honey Chiles Leon sounds a little like Linda doesn't he?
Sam Harnish It does! LOL.
So that's good, you found something.
Am I the only one who thinks Chris and Al resemble ? Had no idea they were in a movie together lol.

Jerry Dandrindge! NO WAY!
this movie hits me right in the lgbt's
Your forgetting the q
Chris Sarandon looks so much like Mark Ruffalo
Al may Allah bless you.
That goodbye sonny meant I don't love you anymore
Actually it doesn’t because he later tells the hostages to write a will saying to give the man he loves the money.
@@kathrynorozco5416 No, he meant Leon didn't love Sonny anymore.
Tour-de-force, plain and simple.
Bruh...
Instead of becoming a transgender he went on to become a vampire.
he also killed Charles lee ray
And then just for kicks he decided to impersonate the king of Florence. Unfortunately, he was discovered and executed. Now he's a well-dressed skeleton, nicknamed The Pumpkin King.

I wish they had Leon more feminine instead of creating the idea that trans women are simply feminine men
It didn't create that at all. Trans people aren't all cut from the same piece of cloth; and this performance, for the times, was brilliant.
I thought absolutely acted like a woman in this scene he killed it
Im trans, I think it’s a great portrayal, especially for the community at the time.
Gatekeeping trans behaviors huh
you're kinda weird for this one
