    Great Video. No nonsense, no loud music, good quality video and audio. My mechanic says 5 hour job ($850), but I think it might take 2 hours or so. I am not sure how long it would have taken you without the videoing. Funny how so many videos differ in accessing and removing a water pump.

    Really great job on the presentation of your video on the water pump, just found a large stain on the garage floor under our 2011 Buick Enclave yesterday and was sure what my next job was on the car.
    I love it when a video gets to the point there are a lot of backyard wrenchers who seem to thing they have to cuss and drink and play metal head music in the background. They should watch your "done right" videos.
    Also great idea on using Amazon for parts, that hit me like a hammer and a real DUH moment, well 68 years old and still learning, so thanks so much for the help.
    Yooper Jim Oh ya our Buick dealership quoted $600.00 plus on this job NOT

    Thank You! The video came out just before I replaced my water pump in my 2012 GMC Acadia. The only trouble I had was getting the gasket in place. I ended up resting the gasket (metal with silicone center that came with the AC Delco water pump) on the engine and was able to hold the water pump and start the bottom bolt. I also had trouble getting the (2) top bolts started, but I reached up my left hand through the opening at the top of the wheel well and hold the ratchet while I worked it with my right hand. Your tips were very good, like removing the fender bracket so you can look and reach through to get the top bolts. I only needed a deep 10mm and a small ratchet. I agree with you after watching other videos that going through the fender well was the easiest way. I used the same water pump you used. The GMC Dealer wanted $517.00 dollars and I did it for $145.00. You saved me a lot of money, thanks again.

    My water pump just went this past week on a 2011 Traverse, so I'm pretty thankful this video exists. A lot better than the $555 the dealership quoted me for this repair!

    God Bless you! i have to do this exact same repair and even though i have the manual, after looking at different videos to help it only made things more daunting. But after many searches, God blessed me to find yours! All doubt to fix this vehicle myself are erased!! I can't thank you enough! If you have a donate button i would send some of my savings to you. This is right on time as God always is! absolutely superb video.

    Great repair video! Thank you for sharing! I remember replacing a water pump on a 73 plymouth satellite with a 318 v8 when i was a teen. One week later the bearings went out on the new pump. I was not happy but I did the work again. I never had to replace the water pump again :) I was very proud of myself as was my mom. The issue with this water pump was everything was attached to it. So many spacers. It was such a pain :) Glad to see you did not have to take to much off to get to it :) I like to see videos like this even though I am not able to work on my cars anymore.

    Thanks for the video. I just replaced the water pump on a 2012 Equinox 3.0. Just a few hints for anyone attempting this repair. Idid the repair from the top, not underneath like this video. After removing the air filter box, You have to support the engine and remove a motor mount. It only took 6 bolts and 2 nuts to be removed to gain very easy access to the water pump. The most difficult part of the repair was getting the serpentine back on. From start to finish, it took about 5 hours and saved $500+. Anyone with a floor jack and basic tools can complete this repair. Only thing I had to buy was a $12 inch-pound torque wrench from Harbor Freight.

    Acadia, enclave and traverse - all lambda platform are all POS. I have 2010 Enclave -- 4 safety recalls. Replaced power steering pump 3x. Coolant leaking in water pump . Valve body of tranny has been replaced . AC condenser was replaced . Now it's a ticking time bomb for wave plate issues . And yeah looks like my timing chain was stretched as well - there is aloss of power when you hit the gas pedal cruising 65 mph. I have to schedule an appointment to stealership . All scheduled maintenance are done by dealership. The reason that this POS is still with me because I purchased extended warranty but will expiring on December of this year. BTW all issues happened before 50K mileage .

    Be warned- the bolts that they sent with the AC DELCO water pump from amazon was about 1/8th inch too long, looked like they should have worked but leaked like a sieve. removed them one by one and installed the old bolts. check before you get into it too deep- this truck sucks to work on and that water pump is real biznitch. Unless there were big changes from the ‘09 to the ‘11, there is absolutely no way to wiggle it out the bottom as you say. I was able to send it out the back and reach over the engine and pull it out over the top. Put it in that way too and it it went in pretty easy. Other than working around the wires that choke that area, it was the only way.

    • @russhall1097
      @russhall1097 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had to place a wood block against the crankshaft pulley and pry the engine slighly away from the frame member, then the pump would come out. Same thing putting in the new one. The engine will move a bit with pressure. Also, when installing the new belt stick a wood block against your wrench to keep off the tension. This allows positioning exactly the belt on each pulley.

I used to do all of this for pay on mid to late 70’s cars, but not today, 65 years old and my tools are lost or obsolete. Just wanted to see how they are doing it today. Great video thank you! So I've read that there is a very specific torque pattern and other requirements to make sure the blots are tight...to the yield point. Did you do anything like that? Or just tighten them as much as you could? Looks near impossible to get a torque wrench in there.
    I'll be doing this next weekend. Coolant smell in cab and coolant on ground:(. Thanks again! Oh and thanks for the Amazon link to the fasteners and tool!

    • @SSLFamilyDad
      @SSLFamilyDad  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not torque anything down using a torque wrench, I can't imagine you could get one in there. I just tightened them as much as I could and did it in a cross pattern similar as you would do with a tire or anything like this where it needs to seal evenly.

But I think it was thermostat and the over heating caused water pump to break the seal and leak. It was a VERY small leak. Videos are great and exact! NO SURPRISES when making the change of parts. Good hints too.

    Friend here is Julio do Brasil.
    I have an Omega 3.6 (commodore vz) with Alloytec engine. Same as yours ...
    However I have some problems with it, I am new to leak radiator fluid behind the engine, the liquid comes from the front of the engine over the block and below the heads and will fall the back next to the transmission.
    I already touched that water supply nozzle, and the water pump was changed before this problem, so I thought it might be the new faulty pump.

      well, it isn't easy but if you angle it in there the same way the old one came out it should fit fine. Sorry I can't offer much more help than that, just keep wiggling and trying different orientations, you'll get it.

    you mentioned getting your pump replaced from the dealership if under 120000 miles. I couldn't find anything on a recall for it. is there some information you could give me to get it replaced for free?

      +Payton L just can your dealer, give them the vin and see if it qualifies

      So mine went at 101000 miles. Drove it at night to the dealer, leaking all over and overheating. Got a call next morning bad water pump, missed the warranty by 1000 miles. Charged me $750, but ended up paying $850, because my cabin air filter "needed to be replaced" and my throttle body "needed to be cleaned". I don't trust dealers. Here I am now at 110000 miles. Check engine light just went on. Code says thermostat. No heat inside and temp doesn't go up or stay up. Now I have to replace my thermostat. I just called the dealer and asked why they charged me $100 for insignificant maintenance items, but they didn't change the thermostat. No answer. I hate this vehicle.

      Alan Torchia , I have the same car. Same thing happened, you can change cabin air filter your and put in a better one that you can clean for 40 bucks, I got mine at Autozone. The throttle body on these engines gets oil seepage, I have had to have mine cleaned out twice. It’s common and not a rip out diagnosis. I’ve seen the pictures. The last time, shop said they had a better gasket which will hopefully stop this from happening again. They gave me a 50000 mile warranty on that. Good luck

    Its easier to do it from the top. Underhood fuse box comes off in 3 pieces. Jack up motor with block of wood. Pull motor mount and bracket, pull belt. Bingo. Way more room to work.

    Well done on the video. Even the simplest task can be daunting when you don't know where to start. I find the newer cars much harder to deal with than the ones I grew up with particularly with all of the shielding that hampers direct access. If you don't mind I would suggest two things that might make tasks of this nature easier. One- check out a web site called rockauto.com I don't know whether they are cheaper than what you are using but it would be worth a look. I use them regularly. Two- if you have a compressor or are willing to invest in one, you can drop $20.00 at your friendly Harbor Freight for an air powered ratchet. I can't imagine how I ever got along without one.

      My son and I replaced the water pump, serpentine belt, and thermostat on a 2011 GMC Acadia this past weekend. Your videos help us a lot. We had to take out the old water pump through the top of engine (no biggie) and bring in the new one through there too. Took us one day to replace all three items, but it was well worth it. Thank again for all your tips!

      This was a 2010 chevy traverse v6. I ended up removing the top mount and pulling it out that way. ITt was also easier to get a tool down in there to get the old gasket out as well.

      +Mau Coronel that is how most mechanics are trained to do that repair. Take the engine out and fix it.

    • @Coronelac
      @Coronelac 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh, I see. Is the water pump tied to the engine timing? I just had someone install the water pump for me but I now have an advanced timing trouble code; also, the traction control system is flashing at me.

    • @SSLFamilyDad
      @SSLFamilyDad  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mau Coronel water pump is not tied to timing, could be something else got damaged or did not get plugged back in. They may have lifted the engine to get it out
