I’m pretty proud of this one! Making this video made me appreciate this song so much more than before. I have to mention, I didn’t find out until a couple of days ago when the creation was well underway, that someone has recently released a compilation of this. I normally try not to post songs that people have done recently but as you guys know from my poll on the community page, I’ve been planning this one for almost 2 months. I started working on it casually in April of this year. So I mean no disrespect to anyone by going ahead and releasing this one now. Big thanks, as always, to you guys… the viewers. Excellent job on this - can you imagine how difficult it would have been for Rush to get air play in the 1980s especially with a song that lightly criticizes radio. Their success, as they have often mentioned, is due to their very loyal fans.
Just for context, I grew up a few blocks away from Geddy Lee back in the day. This song was a direct reference to a local independent radio station that broadcast from Brampton Ontario in the '70's. CFNY 102.1 their slogan was "CFNY - The Spirit of Radio" they had no playlists. They played obscure underground music of all types. No corporate rock. The different music breaks were referencing this, as they had a Reggie DJ as well who had his own segment. Rush loved them. Peace.
They were still doing interesting things in the late 80’s early 90’s, playing rock bands that were under the radar from the UK and North America, embraced the club scene and underground rave scene in Toronto at the time. Deadly Hedley was a great DJ at the time and if he liked a song he’d give it another spin and say “ So Nice We Have to Hear it Twice” with a slight Jamaican accent and it was always a big tune if not at the time than a month later. Good times.
We had two independent radio stations where I live back in the day and they were both college radio. Two really different formats. One had regular dj’s playing a more freeform format and the other station were college students filling in for an hour or two sometimes three. We had a black and white uhf television station that played music videos at least two years before anybody ever heard of mtv. All these independent stations really broadened my sense of music appreciation and awareness. I’m really lucky to grow up back then
@yyz4761 was that Muchmusic? Or a forerunner....I could DX sometimes, clock in MuchMusic videos from CANADA all the way out in Cleveland. In the US, we had community or listener supported radio as well as college stations. The community radio were run by a board of volunteer governors, and they usually had large libraries of real vinyl, especially reggae, but also classical, to punk to old blues, and barbershop quartet. I dont know how many are still in operation now. These would be dream places to sample from like they do in today's dance music, but that technology didn't really exist back then. Commercial radio probably doesn't have vinyl libraries at all nowadays. WMMS Cleveland broke RUSH in the states after they played "Working Man" which became a gianormous hit locally.

Momma. This was a masterpiece! I'm in my late 40s and seeing the joy of these younger people experiencing Rush just made ME start crying. It's like the joy of it over powered me. Simply amazing. You deserve all the subs and likes in the world. Thank you. Highlight of my day.
I have literally been rocking out to Rush since my mom went to see them in 1990 when she was 7 months pregnant with me. I love watching people experience Rush for the first time. I was lucky enough to see them twice before they retired.
Just done the exact same thing so I obviously feel the same way!!!!! Being a drummer and growing up listening to Rush, then watching these kids getting excited over the same song/band 40 years on…. WOW!!! What a great video…. Love it x
Spirit of the Radio is one of my top 5 songs of all time and I revisit my obsession with it every few years. I've been amazed at how many reaction videos have been made for this song over the last year or two, when the song is over 40 years old. You put together a spectacular collection of reactions. A song that effortlessly makes me smile is (finally?) getting the recognition it deserves. Thank you for this.
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary
Thank you for that informative description of Neil's style. I'm not sure if you've seen it yet but I did do a compilation for his Frankfurt solo... as a drummer you might enjoy that video as well. Apologies if you've already seen it! th-cam.com/video/_phjcbdWqKE/w-d-xo.html Thanks again
The one thing they all have in common is the smiles on their faces as they listen to this great track, their look of joy as the listen to a truly great band😊

One of the best video compilations EVER! I've loved that song since it came out 43 years ago. To see so may different people loving it for the first time made my heart full. RUSH can bring the world together! Well done, WonderMommaOG!!! We are all human. World peace through RUSH!
Alex Lifeson, one of the best gutarists ever, Getty Lee one of, if not the best bass player ever, and Neil Piert, the greatest drummer ever. Together the most under rated band ever. Thank you Canada for these guys
From a Gary to Geddy your one of the most talented musician of all time! No one touches your talent on bass, keyboards, and singing! You are the definition of Unique and RUSH is not RUSH without your playing and vocals! To quote the movie: I LOVE YOU MAN! Alex and Neil as well!!
Your videos are flawless. Other compilations don't even come close. The time and effort you put into these is obvious. I loved "The making of" section.
I've often wondered what it is that makes reaction videos so entertaining. To answer, at least for myself, it is twofold: (a) first, it is about watching people experience the joy I had when I first discovered Rush and their greatness; and (b) second, it is about sharing what I've since learned since and helping them along in their future discoveries. What a tremendous tribute to the most beloved and, at once, underrated, band in history and one of their many great compositions! Thank you for this masterwork - about a masterwork!
The final cut came out great! All that work paid off! I like the analyses you chose to include after completion of song, especially the appreciation of the band. 😊
I love how Ged's signal to the audience to clap is, well, how it is, ha...especially the way everyone is perplexed by it. Thanks for the hard work and featuring Rush! Pro quality vid!
All of you gave an amazing and funny reactions. It gives me pleasure to see you guys love the music I grew up with. I saw Rush live at Madison Square Garden back in 82/83 and they are just as amazing live. I am 61 now and I share this music now with my grandkids and I will ask you all to do me the same favor. Keep this great music alive I am counting on you to carry the torch😎✌🏻

Pretty simple : you get in your car in the morning and turn on the radio, looking for your jam, you turn the different channels searching for a song to make you happy.
Another win, Momma! Back to back, Spirit of Radio is my all time Rush favorite song! Thanks for bring us awesome reactions and keep up your good work! Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷
NEIL PEART’S NARRATION ON EXIT STAGE LEFT DVD: There’s a tremendous ambiance about a concert hall…to even before a band starts playing…from the time the doors open..this place feels electric you know! That’s one of the things I like most about the road that feeling of standing in the hall when the doors open feel the excitement bursting into the hall. I must admit I feel very comfortable playing live a lot! A very modern urban setting for that Tom Sawyer mentality and a very carefree stride and a very self-possessed kind of air. Xanadu: The question we tend to ask the most often is WHAT IF? I think of you had to simplify a motivation or simplify a moving force in our music that would probably…suffice! Red Barchetta: Well it seems to me a car is one of those handy metaphors and volumes have been written about the sociological and cultural impact of the car and what it represents but it also has a very fundamental sensual feel and it’s a metaphor for sexuality and freedom. We’ve certainly tried to guide everything by the principles that were interested in and the freedom of choice and the material we’ve been playing and expression of music that we found to be exciting would excite other people as well. If the songwriting is important and playing really well on stage is important it’s gonna make the difference between feeling good or not feeling good when I walk off stage feeling that I played as well as I can or as close to well as I can then I feel very satisfied and good for what you have done. YYZED: I think there is a very strong relation maybe not generally recognized between drums and between words as the rhythmic structure and phrasing and the rhythm of verse especially is very strongly rooted in the same syncopation as drums the same patterns of thinking overall work for me with words as much as they do with drum beats.
I watched this twice yesterday and I can’t get over how brilliant your editing skills are. Thank you for doing these. I know they’re time consuming and your finished products are always appreciated. I look forward to your next project.
I was lucky enough to see Rush open their tour supporting the Permanent Waves album featuring Spirit of the Radio in January of 1980. I can still remember looking at the immense drum kit lit up in the dim arena just before the band opened with 2112.🤯
One of my favorites from RUSH. it's great to see such a diversity of people rockin out to this song. It goes to show the power of music . Great job on the video by the. OOOORIGHT ✌☮ 👍👍
One of my all time favorites. Nothing is better than watching it blow someone's mind for the first time. Watching it blow 20 people's minds for the first time? Chef's kiss. You got me subbed for life. I especially like how you show at the end now how you put these together. Mad skill picking those timestamps and lining it all up. Highest respect!
Love this! As a Rush fan who jumped on when moving pictures was new.... you nailed it and had some of my fav reactors. I also appreciate the sound quality and the fact that you didn't interrupt the master shot. Love also how you took the animation suggestion. Great work
Absolute Fire Ms. Wonder! Another masterpiece! It’s crazy to think that during the mid 80’s I actually got a little tired of listening to Rush, they were everywhere, selling out stadiums for decades, however, seeing all these reactors react to songs for the first time makes me love all these songs even more than I did before! I know it’s a lot of work to put these together, but I (we) are grateful, and I (we) hope you never stop! Thank you Ms. Wonder!
Simply Incredible Mash Up..What’s intrigued me about reaction videos. Is to realize they’ve never heard these songs before. And thanks to you, I’ve gotten turned on to so many other reactors channels. So your not only blowing me away. But opening new doors for me to discover so many younger people getting turned on. To the music of my Life. Thank You So Much, I Appreciate you and all your hard work. ❤️🙏💜

Three dudes. I recall Rush on the old Rockline radio show in the mid-90s. After being congratulated by fans on their new album (Counterparts, maybe?), Geddy Lee said, "Thank you very much. Now we need to learn how to play it live."
This video is just absolutely amazing. I have been a huge rush fan for many years. Thank you for all your work on this content!!! Love watching people discover and react to Rush for the first time. Keep it up!
My butt has been royally KICKED with this production, @WonderMommaOG. You have BROUGHT the goods! The level of your production MEETS that of Rush and this selection "Tom Sawyer". You have done them JUSTICE. You are very special.
We did not dissect the music. We just heard it and loved it. Our radio stations would play this and Earth Wind And Fire and we never ever distinguished. We just loved listening to music.
Also if ya dig and enjoyed this video by Rush and so amazing and loved yalls feedback which is always fun 😀 you may also enjoy the song " Most of All " By Glenn Kaiser and Where Roses Grow Live by Rez Band Awesome songs check them out. Also I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and a good question to ask yourself if you were to die today would you go to heaven ? And if yes why ? To find out more please read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on TH-cam. 😀
lol Yes, this one took a little bit... I wanted to take my time with it but had some roadblocks along the way including parts of the multiple section edits disappearing and having to redo them. Thank you!
Your editing skills are chef’s kiss🤌🏽 I feel the feelings the people are feeling while watching. It’s special. Thank you for your hard work and gift. ❤
Wow hats off to ya! That was a wild ride! It makes me emotional seeing how Rush still brings joy into people's lives! They are a gift and so is montage! Respect to ya WonderMommaOG! Beautifully done
This was the opening song for their shows for years. They just dove right in baby. God those shows were astonishing. You left physically spent every single time. They ring every ounce of energy out of you.
I adore when ppl hear my favorite band & of course the GREATEST band of all time RUSH. I flipped over the Holy Trinity of rock from day one in June of 74 at 14 years old & playing Bass three years at the time. I'm 62 going on 63 & I've never put it down. To this day I'm still rocking out on stage in local bands & I must admit, Rush was the ONLY BAND EVERY ALBUM made me run home when I got they're new album at the time & grab my bass & want to learn not only every song they recorded but learn theroy time signitures rudements, the whole bass & music shabangabang. The greatest music teachers I ever had & they never knew what they did to that 14 year old kid back then ha ha.
We lost Neil Peart on January 7th 2020 to brain cancer! Geddy Lee called him: THE PROFESSOR because he had a verbal and musical vocabulary that I would put against anyone including Beethoven and Albert Einstein all this from a guy who didn’t graduate high school! Not only was he the drummer-percussionist of RUSH but he also wrote the Lyrics! RIP PROFESSOR
This is my essay to people who may not know RUSH or who Neil was professionally and his contributions to the art of drumming and lyrical writing! Enjoy! RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! 17:49 God bless these young men. I know what you are talking about. There is so much crazy rock going on that it is hard to concentrate on the lyrics even though I am a native English speaker. I get you brother and may you still rock on
WMOG! You should be proud! GRAND SLAM OUT OF THE PARK!!! I love the way you did the intro clips before the song! Outstanding! I know you put hours and hours into this! Great job once again! Can't wait to see what you put out next! 😉🤫
This was an incredible compilation. This is my first time seeing your work but I am impressed. I liked the "making of" portion, it solidified what I already thought by the end of the After Thought Commentary, a lot of work went into this. And this on one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. Thank you for this. I have probably seen 1/2 of these reactors' video for this song, so now I know I can go find a few more. Thanks for posting this and I saw your pinned post...You have every right to be proud of this one!!
Thank you so much for the kind words. It's always nice to hear that people appreciate how much goes into these videos. I hope you find one or two more that you like as well. Welcome to the channel!

Canada 🇨🇦 Proud. Fantastic editing, great job. Just scratching the surface of Rush with this song.
The final cut came out great! All that work paid off! I like the analyses you chose to include after completion of song, especially the appreciation of the band. 😊
Hey, Elizabeth. Awesome job huh? Glad we were there when it was being made.:))
I love how Ged's signal to the audience to clap is, well, how it is, ha...especially the way everyone is perplexed by it. Thanks for the hard work and featuring Rush! Pro quality vid!
He was preserving his hands for playing. You can’t clap your hands every night on tour! 😆
How crazy. I've followed Rush since around 1978 and had no idea why Geddy was doing the hand thing!!!
RIP Professor. And thanks to the band for all the years of great music.
I’ve been rocking on this for 40 years, glad to see a new group appreciating their artistry.

Pretty simple : you get in your car in the morning and turn on the radio, looking for your jam, you turn the different channels searching for a song to make you happy.
I subscribed. The best reaction compilation I've seen to date. Don't blame you for feeling proud, you should be. Well done!
Thank you. Glad to have you, welcome!
Another win, Momma! Back to back, Spirit of Radio is my all time Rush favorite song! Thanks for bring us awesome reactions and keep up your good work! Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷
Whoo! Man that pumped me up. Made my evening, once again thank you Wondermamma.
Thank you Blair! 💪🏽
Thank you so much! Excellent song selection
I love the ending of this video and everything in between
NEIL PEART’S NARRATION ON EXIT STAGE LEFT DVD:
There’s a tremendous ambiance about a concert hall…to even before a band starts playing…from the time the doors open..this place feels electric you know!
YYZED:
I think there is a very strong relation maybe not generally recognized between drums and between words as the rhythmic structure and phrasing and the rhythm of verse especially is very strongly rooted in the same syncopation as drums the same patterns of thinking overall work for me with words as much as they do with drum beats.
Everybody loves this song. Your editing skills make that VERY CLEAR. 💥💥💥👍 You make the music BETTER,,,,,in YOUR way. 👍👍👍🤪
😊 Thank you!
Thanks for the carpet ride!! I’ve heard TSOR thousands of times, but never saw Aladdin in my head. Love it
Absolutely fantastic. The song, the reactions, the editing...exhilarating! And this guy's reaction is my favorite 5:42
Worth the wait!!! And omg the Aladdin!
Ty Momma! I'm sharing this everywhere
I'm so relieved people are liking the Aladdin bit. I was nervous about it. lol Thank you so much.
When I listen to RUSH ....So do my neighbors 👍💯...... greatest live band ever
I watched this twice yesterday and I can’t get over how brilliant your editing skills are. Thank you for doing these. I know they’re time consuming and your finished products are always appreciated. I look forward to your next project.
Much appreciated, Jim.
Glittering prizes and endless compromises Shatter the illusion Of integrity! Wow! Neil PEART rights all songs The Professor 👍
I was lucky enough to see Rush open their tour supporting the Permanent Waves album featuring Spirit of the Radio in January of 1980. I can still remember looking at the immense drum kit lit up in the dim arena just before the band opened with 2112.🤯
Awesome! I saw the same tour at the Capital Center in DC. Vague, fuzzy, warm, smoky memories. :-)
I was so lucky to grow up in the 80’s. Such a wide variety of great music put out.
Highest respect!
wow... thank you so much. Happy to have you, welcome! 💜
Wonder!
💜💜💜😊
Thanks for all the work you put into your videos. They are fantastic.
13:31 echoes with the sounds of salesman….. radio used to have what they called free format meaning you didn’t hear the commercials!!!!
Everyone listening to that song finally has a happy smile on their face. Rush bring the world together!

Alex Lifeson: RUSH guitarist and Guru Extraordinaire! The HEART ❤️ AND SOUL OF RUSH! THE FUNNIEST MAN ON THE PLANET AND GREATEST SPEECH GIVER OF ALL TIME!!! ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME: BLAH…BLAH…BLAH! HATS 🎩 OFF TO ALEX LIFESON 😎😎😎👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎸🎸🎸
Three dudes.
I recall Rush on the old Rockline radio show in the mid-90s. After being congratulated by fans on their new album (Counterparts, maybe?), Geddy Lee said, "Thank you very much. Now we need to learn how to play it live."
Rush isn't just a band. They were 3 world class musicians who inspired and loved their fans. By the way, the Aladdin clip was awesome.
Man, yall are making me tear up a little. ❤ so glad to see my favorite band's music will live on.
This video is just absolutely amazing. I have been a huge rush fan for many years. Thank you for all your work on this content!!! Love watching people discover and react to Rush for the first time. Keep it up!
I love that so many different types of people love this song and Rush!
omg. just found your channel!! Totally my jam. Thank you!!
lol... Thanks Paul! Glad you found me and hope you enjoy!
My butt has been royally KICKED with this production, @WonderMommaOG. You have BROUGHT the goods! The level of your production MEETS that of Rush and this selection "Tom Sawyer". You have done them JUSTICE. You are very special.
😭☺Wow, incredible compliment. Thank you!
The Caribbean outro was most excellent.
I loved this. Such a great reminder that editors create too.
Yes! Thank you!
Love the Aladdin segment! Nice work as always!
I bet Al and Ged would get a genuine kick out of seeing this...beer's in hand of course!
I’ve loved RUSH since I was in college and I wrote a paper based on “Free Will” and seeing these youngsters love RUSH is amazing!
I love it
We did not dissect the music.
It absolutely blows my mind how well you edit these compilations. It must take you forever! 👍
Thanks for putting this together. You make me want to go back and give their catalogue a listen to :)
You've been working on this one for a while. I can see the extra time paid off. Great job as usual. Rush in my opinion is one of the best bands ever.
lol Yes, this one took a little bit... I wanted to take my time with it but had some roadblocks along the way including parts of the multiple section edits disappearing and having to redo them. Thank you!
Excellent reaction video as usual. RUSH RULES THE AIRWAVES! Rush has to be required listening 🤟🏼
My favorite song by my favorite band. Amazing edit on the video as usual. I loved it.❣
Your editing skills are chef’s kiss🤌🏽 I feel the feelings the people are feeling while watching. It’s special. Thank you for your hard work and gift. ❤
Wow hats off to ya! That was a wild ride! It makes me emotional seeing how Rush still brings joy into people's lives! They are a gift and so is montage! Respect to ya WonderMommaOG! Beautifully done
Many thanks!
Love your videos. Thank you
This was the opening song for their shows for years. They just dove right in baby. God those shows were astonishing. You left physically spent every single time. They ring every ounce of energy out of you.
I've never actually listened to this song before? But now I'm loving it so much 💖. Playlist!!!!🎧💯❤️
I love the way you took the Aladdin cue and ran with it. You are the best compiler! Ha Ha!
Love seeing the stunned expressions, the acceptance, the follow-along, the breathlessness. All my favorite reactors in one place!
You killed it! Great editing, great work, keep it up! Awesome all around! Thanks for providing everyone’s thoughts at the end!
Awesome job WMOG!!! It was definitely worth the wait. Got my day off to a fantastic start. Can't wait for the next one. 🤩 🎶🥁🎸
Yay! Thank you!
Tomorrow is 5 year anniversary.
I’m reading one of his books right now.
So good I have to watch again! Love your show WonderMommaOG
This is my essay to people who may not know RUSH or who Neil was professionally and his contributions to the art of drumming and lyrical writing! Enjoy!
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! Congratulations!!! Great Edition, it looks like it took a long time, but it was worth it!! 👍👍
this song is amazing, just like your work...once again, you did a great job, thank you very much WonderMommaOG.... I'm your fan from Chile
Hi Claudio! Great to see you, thank you so much. Appreciate you stopping by on the live streams for this one too!
Ahhhh. Thank you again!!! Tom Sawyer is my favourite. But this is so cool!!! Seeing them in concert was awesome.
So happy now that my junior high and high school years were late 70's and early 80's. So many awesome bands that have stood the test of time.
