Are you from University of Oregon? (Your hat). I am from Oregon Stare University. After I graduated with my electrical/computer engineering degree last year, it took me FOREVER to find a software engineering job. I finally ended up getting a position as an embedded systems software engineer. So grateful!!!!!!!
@TimothyLeeGrant1 yes I did. Big congrats on the job! That’s big. On a side note, I’ve been putting a theory together on the video AI from TH-cam. I suspect the Oregon “O” should have been picked up by the AI. So wonder how that sways viewership.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge about this subject. It's interesting to see how companies are reacting relative to outside factors in the economy, politics, law, etc.
@GaminYoon1 I agree, wild how these things change the landscape. it seems that companies are very quick as well to change positions once something happens.
What do you think about bootcamps to get into tech? Have you seen people get hired after completing? I have no degree and have been considering a 10month bootcamp.
Finally caved and took a job as an application support analyst (customer service). I will get some experience working with SQL and there is possibility of working towards an engineer role within the company. At any rate the experience is probably much more applicable than my previous job working in a kitchen. I'm also wondering if I would be a good fit for software engineering, I'm very good at coding and understanding the underlying concepts, but I don't like to code in my free time, and I wonder if constantly having to create things in a role such as SWE will burn me out. I didn't know if that was a common thing among developers or if it was a red flag per se.
I have had some interviews, Although I had an hr call today and they told me if companies are in a hurry to hire they will only conduct 1- 2 interviews at max because they need the help.
The field is far from dead. However, it is more competitive. Work hard, keep practicing/learning, and play the numbers game. There is no need to be a doomer.
