I agree that if you have to force it with 50 11 products, it's not for you. You have to have a proper moisture protein balance, and I prefer a one product WNG with a cream that has hold
I do my wash and go in the summer when the weather is less severe in London, England. I literally use leave-in conditioner and walk outside with my towel-dried hair. Lol! All this raking and shaking and shingling and multiple products was never for me. I just do not care about definition that much to spend all that time defining a wash and go in the shower wet with water in my eyes and product going down my back...no thanks. Lol! I'm a lazy natural if it takes to long to style I'm not doing it. I put most of my effort into care.
I have mixed texture but I love to wash n go. I took Anthony Dickeys Method + A Love4me and tweaked it and voila, I arrived at my own method. I live in a highly hot and humid industrial city (Lagos Nigeria) so, I wash frequently because I use heavy products coupled with gunks, sweat etc. If I'm wearing wash n go, I love to detangle first with African Pride Pre Shampoo then I clarify with Kinky Come Clean and I condition with 2min Reconstructor. I add my Leave-In Styler (Camille Rose Aloe Butter Gel) and smooth and rake Wetline Gel into my hair out of the shower. I air dry (my hair dry in record time because my weather permits it), re-moisturise within the week and wash after 7 days. I don't stretch it or disturb it and if I want to restyle it, I throw it into a puff or a bun and call it a day.
@@missfabidia I'm happy to help. 1. I wash every 7 days, not 3 days 2. I use shampoo both clarifying and moisturising when needed 3. I use gels with plasticisers not curling creams because I have a mixed texture and I live in a highly hot and humid industrial city 4. I don't cover my hair with satin scarf at night because our own weather here can be extremely hot and I don't like using air conditioner to sleep.
I know what you’re doing is difficult. Some people just don’t know how to appreciate you, but I do. I’m a senior citizen who went natural around the pandemic. I had no idea of how to take care of my hair. Salons were closed and there were only two who did my textured hair anyhow. I was stuck in the house and didn’t know what to do. Like I said, I’m a senior citizen, but I’m also immunocompromised. I couldn’t go out if a thousand salons opened. If it hadn’t been for your videos, who knows where my hair would be. I just want to say thank you for being here. Your videos not only helped my hair, but got me through some lonely days.
Thank you for sharing information and your knowledge. You are saving me money and going natural saved me money. No more sitting in the salon for long hours and relaxers breaking down my hair.
I wash my hair weekly and WNG is the only way I know how to style my 4b/4c highlighted hair. I like to keep a simple routine with a single product (it can be just leave in, mouse or both. I use the gel more for my edges). Every 15 days I alternate between a hydrating mask or a protein mask. BTW, the Aphogee pro vitamin leave in conditioner (that you recommended) is gold!!!..I love it and use it to refresh my curls EVERY SINGLE DAY ❤
Same, I have been doing wash n go's for 1 year now and I absolutely love it. I get no single strand nots, no matting. I do it once a week. Wash, deep condition and use 1 styling product on my hair. I do not have to force a curl at all. I have 4b hair and it's fine. I do absolutely understand that some folks hair do not like wash n go's. We should all do what's best for our hair. It's all about figuring out what works for each individual.
Wash and go was the first time my hair broke off by touching it😭 . They took hours to do and only last 1 day. Twist/braidouts and or a curl/wave former🤗 for me
This video was so informative. I appreciate you sharing this information. I paused the video because I had to wash my hair and took your advice and style on towel dry/damp hair....and you were so right about soaking wet hair diluting the products etc. My product acted differently on my hair I was shocked. Thank you
My thing is, what’s so wrong about a wash and fro? I’ve never understood that. It’s simple, quick and takes way less product. To me it’s not so much the style itself being bad, but more so how people perceive themselves. A fro (or any semblance of it) shouldn’t make one feel unkempt when 1)that’s how it grows out of your head and 2) you DID put in the work to care for your hair-which doesn’t have to be some long drawn out process. We need to let go of ‘done’ looking the same for everyone within the space of natural hair, and one version somehow being better than the other. Allow the coexistence.
I so agree with you. I have worn an fro (short) since I went back natural...just like in the 70s. I am too lazy for all that curl defining...lol. I just wash, condition, leave in and moisturizer and pick out. I love my hair. It never tangles either. I shower without a shower cap everyday and it stays moisturizer till I wash it (every 3-4 days). Easy, peasy.
I 1000% agreeee😂I am a wash and fro girllll, it feels good! No tension or extra stress on my hair, just free. I don’t feel like i gotta have my hair slicked down and twisted, or super neat to be “done”. Why can’t I pick it out real quick, and keep it pushing? Other races go out into the world without having to have their hair “done” all the time 🙄The downsides for me is people constantly asking is this all my hair 🙄
Wash n' Go's for me is swimming against the tide. My hair is naturally a fro. A twist out is more ideal. Is it faster? Hell no. 😂 But I have a full head of hair. Also, I think some of these young ladies don't know the source of the term Wash n' Go. I've seen videos of them taking over an hour to do it. It's wash...and go. Supposed to be quick.
Agreed WNG should only take 30mins hints to why you should add it to your shower routine by the time you get out the shower everything should be done it sounds like and I could be wrong you haven't achieved maximum hydration and protein balance once your there you will know cause your hair will naturally curl and hold a curl for longer try the Anthony Dickey method if you want to live in your curls I wish you the best on your healthy hair journey
Don't be too hard on yourself with the "um" and "uh"! It's part of speech for many languages. It doesn't mean you're less articulate, it's just a way to say you're thinking.
I love wash and goes, because with the right products, I can redo it with just water. It takes less time than twistout, and if I accidentally fall asleep without my bonnet, I don’t have to worry about my whole style being ruined, because I can just redo it with water. I stopped doing twist outs years ago. My hair was growing really well with very few ssks when I was stretching it but now I literally just style and go. I’m a start back stretching it again, I just haven’t found a product that behaves like the original wetline so stretching my hair doesn’t give me the results I used to have and love (non-frizzy defined coils)
@@missfabidia I’ll try to do wash and goes on a daily basis, when I don’t have time to really redo it I put it in a ponytail…. Like I said, my hair was growing a lot better at with less knots when I was stretching it
I legit co-washed my hair DAILY for almost 2 years and stopped when I started watching your lives. Now realizing my hair looked deflated/damaged/thin + I was never able to retain length…it was a sad trying time. Yes, I do have to deep condition weekly because I wear my hair out in WNG 70% of the time the other 30 it's in a flat twist updo when I go in the salon every 3 months for my blow out and trim
I understand why you feel tired. People tend to be ungrateful and it's discouraging. I want you to know that I appreciate you 🥰 *Sending you virtual hugs* 🫂
I’m so glad you touched on porosity. Because a lot of people out here think they’re low porosity when they just need to clarify their hair from product buildup
I have found all of these statements to be true. At this point I wear it for one or two days in-between braids and that works best. Thanks for the confirmation!.
I have 4C hair and i didn’t think wash n go’s was for me until I started doing wash n go’s DAILY(Anthony Dickey-Hair Rules) This method works for me. My hair style is an undercut and this is the best method for my hair. It’s easy to manage and stays moisturized. it’s steady growing. I’m sure this method is not for everyone. Just have to find what works for you.
I’m convinced natures blessing is good for all hair types. Never heard of it until I started watching your videos. I rarely comment but this is why I love your channel. I'm glad I found you in 2018, because you simplify all of your hair knowledge for your audience and debunking a lot of myths about natural hair.😊
I do a wash and goop because I’m lazy. I do it all in the shower. Once a week. Detangle in the shower and then goop kinky curly in two sections. Would probably look better if I took the time to do sections. I have tried twists but my curl pattern always takes over after 2 days. The wash and goop lasts about 5 days and then starts to look frizzy as the products wear out but I like the frizz too so I rock it like that. I let the style transform as the days go or put it in a bun. Hair is fine to medium and past armpits when straight. I will say Narada is right though. It does clump on its own and I don’t put a ton of stuff in it. Type 4 hair no split ends. Trim 3 times a year.
I am pissed that people complained and talk shit . You were so chill and happy 95% of the video . I am not saying you can’t defend yourself but can they let you have a chill day !
My routine is simple. I wash my hair weekly and after washing and detangling I section off in like 4-6 sections and apply two different curling gels (or just one if I’m lazy) and then blow dry to stretch and I’m done. My curly hair has been growing without braids too and it breaks off less often❤
@@ibyou5062 yes I stretch it after the hair is styled and then use satin scrunchies to stretch it out more. When I air dry, my hair remains in its shrunken state so I prefer to stretch with my blow dryer.
This was very informative. Wash and Gos worked for me when I had a TWA but as my hair has gotten longer I’m now wearing two strand twist and my hair stays moisturized longer in the twists.
I have 3b and 3c mix of curls with low density but medium porosity. Twist outs never give me the fullness I desire. Wash and go is the only way that shows the fullness I desire.
Yes that might be most suitable for you. Just be sure that you are addressing your hair's moisture and keeping up with trimming when necessary and you should be fine
I feel like at some point that really starts to work against you but I haven't seen it myself to know for certain. I would love a client that does his method routinely. I personally think it's just as flawed as BGC but that's just my opinion.
@@AfrikanHairGod omg I got a reply! How awesome! 🥰🥰 I will say... I DO use what I learned from you: doing a blow out and press every 6 weeks and getting in there with a fine tooth comb so I can trim my ends. I also don't use gels either. I'm very generous with how you were saying to layer products. I really like both of y'all's methods. Thanks for the knowledge💜
I have 3c/4a hair n big chopped to less than an inch in dec22 and have only done wash n go’s. My hair is now approaching my shoulders and I trim every 4 months. My hair with no product is highly defined with wringlets I use 2 products max and my wash n gos last 7-10 days. I shampoo and deep condition every wash day and spray with water to refresh. Just do what works for your hair type. I wish braid outs and twist outs worked for me but I just don’t get the definition I want🫠
wow you're giving me hope right now 😭 have you noticed any damage like the type mentioned by Narada (flicky bits, split ends etc...)? Do you trim on blown out hair?
@@sonoxi1756 nope no damage! The most I get is single strand knots at the very ends of the hair and that’s when I trim it. I don’t use combs in my hair. I mainly finger detangle. I use Taliah Waajid curly curl cream to style or I’ll use her apple aloe hold me down gelle!
@@XmeimeisworldX thanks for the reply and the product recommendation ☺! I just have a few more questions . 1) How (blown out or curly) and when do you trim your hair? 2)Do you use oils directly on your hair ? 3) Do you stretch your wash and go's in some type of way? 4)How do you maintain them overnight/in the morning and weekly? 5) Do you know other product combos that can give a (moisturized) 7 day wash and go ? Sorry for all the questions, I'm still learning over here 😅
I'm kinda sad rn cause i feel the most confident with wash and go's and it's the only style that somewhat work on my 3c/4a, low to medium density, fine to medium hair strands 😭. Braid outs and twist outs can be kinda see trough and i have to pick the hell out of it just to look like i have some hair on my head 😂. Other more condensed styles such as braids or twists (w/ no added hair) are great when i need a break. But ultimately my goal is to enjoy wearing my hair out MOST of the time, that's kinda the whole reason why i'm natural 🤷🏾♀️. I will say though i think i could be a "good candidate" for wash and go's as my hair does get defined a bit on its own even when i'm just shampooing or conditioning. I never have to use more than 2 products and i never have to "force" my hair into a curl pattern, it just does and i try to "capture" it. So when i'm ready i will to try to experiment with the following routine : - (pre detangle if needed) - moisturizing shampoo weekly - balancing deep conditioner weekly (w/ heat) - curl defining cream - hair oil - then hair gel. Let me know what y'all think. (And sorry for all the long ahh comment😅)
Just make sure you moisturise your hair underneath the gel and don't over manipulate it when wearing wash n Go. Also, try pre shampoo to detangle before you shampoo; it is a real game changer for me.❤️ *Ps* be aware of your climate and weather conditions before setting your style.*
@@uberhaute_naturalz84 Thanks ! Actually, like I said towards the end of my (very long) comment, i'm considering using a curl cream and an oil underneath my gel for more moisture. As for the everyday maintenance I haven't found something that allows me to literally just 'shake and go", there's always some kind of manipulation (not a lot but still). I need to work on that 😅. Any tips ? My hair is about armpit length, it is too short for the pineapple method and it can get over stretched and look stringy VERY easily.
Or you can try a one product WNG. Find a cream with hold like a cream gel. I like to use hair rules curly whip. African pride also has a cream gel. I haven't tried it for a WNG, but I loved it for my twistout. I refresh with the hair rules finishing hydrating balm mid week, and I'm in a very hot and humid city, Dallas Tx
@@lashundavis4231 ooh I didn't think of that, thanks ! I guess what worries me about using a cream gel as one and done is that it might not last me a full week. I don't like to refresh, I like to style once and that's it. I will still look into the products you recommended tho! Btw have you tried the Eden body works coconut shea curl cream ?
@sonoxi1756 My WNG lasts 7 to 10 days, and I don't mean restyle when I say refresh. Maybe I'm wording it wrong. I just add moisture to the ends by rubbing the product in my hands and scrunch into the ends. No, I haven't tried that product.
Sunscreen and sunblock aren’t the same. You can get lighter on sunblock while sunscreen takes in the rays and even distribute in your skin in a way that is not dangerous as without any protection at all.
I use BGS or Sun Bum for sunscreens but I get both from Target. Sun Bum may be sold at other places. Some folks swear by Shea butter being a sun protector, but I do not know
Sunscreen is tricky so you may have to try a few that work for your skin. The best ones I’ve used for our black skin is Sun Bum and Bondi Sands.. budget friendly. The face ones and the body ones are the same ingredients the last time I checked so if you want more bang for your buck you can always go for the body one. I also use a few brands of asian sunscreen but it’s so many kinds I have thrown away cause it made me look ashy
(I'm at 1:14 so please forgive me if I'm just not at the point where you mention this) When you instruct your clients to use water in between appointments, are they also to add more grease? If not, does smoothing the water in "reactivate" the existing grease? Thank you!
29:21 basically, it's more important to recognize what dry hair looks like/ is than it is to recognize porosity? Lol 41:45 tbh i like LCO(where i assume L means Liquid water lol) and to put oil on last since it gives my naturally dull hair more sheen. I think that's the only difference.

@@ibyou5062 yes I stretch it after the hair is styled and then use satin scrunchies to stretch it out more. When I air dry, my hair remains in its shrunken state so I prefer to stretch with my blow dryer.
@@honks9484 oh alright thank you !
@@AfrikanHairGod Thank you for replying! I love your videos.
Thank you for all that you do ❤💐💐
I have fine, dense, 4c/4b hair. I do the Anthony Dickey method. Putting water almost daily really has helped the moisture
I feel like at some point that really starts to work against you but I haven't seen it myself to know for certain. I would love a client that does his method routinely. I personally think it's just as flawed as BGC but that's just my opinion.
@@AfrikanHairGod omg I got a reply! How awesome! 🥰🥰
I will say... I DO use what I learned from you: doing a blow out and press every 6 weeks and getting in there with a fine tooth comb so I can trim my ends. I also don't use gels either. I'm very generous with how you were saying to layer products. I really like both of y'all's methods. Thanks for the knowledge💜
@@namaste348If you dont use gel, what do you use instead ? Im also a fined haired girl and Im experimenting with wash and goes 😊
No Ulta? Thats considered the black Sephora where I live. 😂
😂😂😂
I have 3c/4a hair n big chopped to less than an inch in dec22 and have only done wash n go’s.
My hair is now approaching my shoulders and I trim every 4 months.
My hair with no product is highly defined with wringlets
I use 2 products max and my wash n gos last 7-10 days.
Sorry for all the questions, I'm still learning over here 😅
Narada there is no such thing as a natural sunscreen. Please don’t fall into that mess😭🙏
Got it 😂
lol I’m glad he saw this. I don’t play about sunscreen either
So when i'm ready i will to try to experiment with the following routine :
- (pre detangle if needed)
- moisturizing shampoo weekly
- balancing deep conditioner weekly (w/ heat)
- curl defining cream
- hair oil
- then hair gel.
Let me know what y'all think. (And sorry for all the long ahh comment😅)
Just make sure you moisturise your hair underneath the gel and don't over manipulate it when wearing wash n Go.
Also, try pre shampoo to detangle before you shampoo; it is a real game changer for me.❤️
*Ps* be aware of your climate and weather conditions before setting your style.*
I was not a fan of using the overhead dryer so consistently on my hair. I’m sticking to two strand twists with extensions for some fullness.
(I'm at 1:14 so please forgive me if I'm just not at the point where you mention this) When you instruct your clients to use water in between appointments, are they also to add more grease? If not, does smoothing the water in "reactivate" the existing grease? Thank you!
@@modernphilomena keep listening I should explain it at some point. They don't need to add more product just water.
@@AfrikanHairGod Thank you!
29:21 basically, it's more important to recognize what dry hair looks like/ is than it is to recognize porosity? Lol
41:45 tbh i like LCO(where i assume L means Liquid water lol) and to put oil on last since it gives my naturally dull hair more sheen. I think that's the only difference.
4:41 walmart might have black girl sun screen too. I prefer the brand Versed and Sun Bum. Sun bum can be found at pretty much every drug store.
Water proof hair is crazy 😂😂😂
Black girl sunscreen! It’s made for us!
I love you Narada! 😂❤
🙏❤️☺️
Just started my starter loc journey.. what kind of shampoo should I use bc i have 4c hair with psoriasis and have to keep my hair washed every other day any tips
The drippppp 🔥
You're from Missouri 😮😊 I'm from Wichita, Kansas but live in Texas now and they know I'm not from Texas as soon as I spk, Midwest swang 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤🎉🎉
I want you to be my hair dresser sooo bad 😂😂😂😂😂
Wash n gos aren’t meant for my hair either. I’m going to stick with medium two strand twist and low manipulation hairstyles from now on especially while I’m getting my hair to grow out the damage and get back to healthy hair with length
22:33 called me out😂 I need to change.
We gone end up having a no gel challenge lol
Now who is iesha lol? I wondering if she's who I think??
Thanks!
Thank you so much! I appreciate you too ❤❤❤

SHOW ME ON VIDEO. HAD THE TWIST HARD FOR SENIOR LADY TY U
Aloe vera gel (use as sunscreen)
youre lucky you still have the walmart 😂
Best sunscreen for melaninated skin is from Fenty. It works on my lightbright self and my chocolate chip daughters with no white cast.
Can we STOP WITH THE NATURAL,we dont call. ANY OTHER culture ethnicity "natrua😊l" this my hair get over your issues WITH IT. GOOGLE WHATEVER w been here to long for y'all STILL not understanding we have different textures.
Wash n' go is only for certain hairtypes. Majority of black women do not benefit from this style. It's yet another concept borrowed from nonblack people
Cantu products are horrible that stuff dries my hair out a lot of other people i know hate cantu products terrible if you just starting off 😂😂😂😂😂
2 questions please What are your thoughts on texture release as lots of women here in London are getting this over keratin. Also please your thoughts on henna as a hair colour for greys. Thanksss🤩🫶🏽
