How does 1 game manage to be so fun, sad, dreamy, aesthetically pleasing, scary, peaceful, beautiful, & trippy at the same time. Bravo on this one, Sega 👏
I have no emotional attachment to NiGHTs, and the presentation of this world alone almost made me break down crying, it's so pretty. I can go a year or two without sonic, we NEED NiGHTS back!
Whenever I played this back in the day, I would always go back to the tutorial and just fly around the area just vibing to the music. It's just a really soothing game
I absolutely ADORE the idea of NiGHTS... A Nightmare creature turned good that helps children overcome their trauma and makes their Dreams come true. Look at the World, and tell me we don't need her back! The way it's presented as well is surreal, but beautiful, like "Alice in Wonderland" but kinder, if you can say. Flying through the notes with Helen was MAGICAL. Especially when you know the lyrics to the song... And can I just say: EVERY scene with Wizeman and Reala was ABSOLUTE GOLD!!! The voice acting for those two is SPECTACULAR! Who'd have thought Wizeman's voice was MoJo JoJo from "Powerpuff Girls"? Let alone that he was The Voice from "Scream".... You really feel like he's Nightmares given form. Simply spectacular... This game is absolutely dreamy, and I would LOVE to see our favorite androginous/nonbinary/genderfluid imaginary therapist flying harlequin friend again at some point in the near future! We love you NiGHTS. And we hope to dream about you again, soon enough...
Are we not gonna mention the fact this dude got in a car, drove to the air port, went through air port security, boarded and took off in a matter of 2 seconds?
NiGHTS into Dreams remains to this day one of the most brilliant & sublime score attack games ever conceived. Journey of Dreams, while failing to match the original's brilliance (mostly due to filler, and stages forcing you to keep pushing forward, robbing the player of more opportunities to explore every nuance and simply enjoy flying), is still a fun game, and worth experiencing for the brilliant soundtrack and amazing visuals, if nothing else. In other words: thanks for sharing this!
The feels in this game are probably one of the strongest I've had in 23 years of gaming. Simple presentation, yet elegantly resonates with some of the most challenging things we can face growing up. Not to mention that absolutely marvelous soundtrack sells every feeling it invokes. While the gameplay as a standalone is certainly flawed, that aspect of it is almost completely masked by its exemplary performance to get the player invested in a story just with the overall feeling on its own. Out of all the games I've played, 2 have made cry during the ending. The first was Kingdom Hearts, the other was NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams.
I know this comment is 2 years old as of me seeing it but i relate to your comment. This game makes me feel something. Also NJOD and KH are tied for my favorite video games
Underrated game. One of the last few times sega cared enough to try and revive a franchise. Had a lot of good times with this game. Still have the preorder "making of" dvd I got with it too.

While I have a lot of issues with JoD, all things considered, it's amazing it turned out as well as it did. I lost my Gamestop "making of" DVD long ago. Had to ask a friend to rip his for me. I'll probably post that video a couple days from now.
Do you still have the DVD? If you have a dvd player on your conputier, would you mind ripping the contents off the disc and upload it to TH-cam? I would really like to see this video

I’m happy to see all the comments are so positive for this game. I was a little off and on with this game at first as a kid cause I thought it was difficult but once I started dealing with my depression when I was 10, I really clicked with NiGHTS and started playing it to the point of 100% completion. To this day it’s the only game I’ve ever totally completed and I am so grateful to NiGHTS to have been there to help me through my saddest moments

Definitely not as good as the original, but still such a fantastic game. Only real thing I didn't like was the voiced NiGHTS, and that's just because I believe in a silent NiGHTS being a core concept in what added to the mystery and charm of the original. In this one, NiGHTS and that Owl explain everything, so there's a lot less mystery and awe to the world the characters are in, and the story is open to a lot less interpretation. I'm just a stickler for it honestly, I did truly love this game, and series for that matter. Really wish Sega could keep this series going, as there's really something magical and fun about it.
Agreed. The whole ambiguous, dreamlike quality of the first game is totally lost. It also doesn't help that Sonic Team's usual storytelling has all the subtlety of a hand grenade...
Gameplay wise this is much better because in the original the camera was so far zoomed in on NiGHTS most players would fumble around and had to memorize the level to actually get decent. In this game the camera is further back and pointed generally in the directions of your interest allowing you to react accordingly. The controls are slightly touched up to but that to be expected. Storyline wise I don't give a shit.
@@cixlo But the thing about having it zoomed in and having to memorize the level allows for a short game like NiGHTS into Dreams to have loads of replayability. There are only seven levels so having to go through them time and time again draws out the gameplay. If the camera was as far out as JoD then all the levels would not only look incredibly cluttered considering everything is rendered from the moment you enter the dream but you'd breeze through the entire game in maybe under an hour and maybe never pick it up again. Which is what I did with JoD tbh. Once I got through those levels the game just kinda sits on my shelf. And its a shame because I *love* NiGHTS.

@@frootloopthechatot9766That is literally how i learned to play songs on the piano since i couldn't afford lessons yet people at my old church would let me play the piano after services, it feels weird to remember that being am ex Methodist turned Norse Pagan ngl but it was a nice memory
the craziest thing is I never heard of Nights until now, but years ago as a kid I had a dream about a place that was similar to the Dream Gate, there were doors, and an old wise man explaining to me what these doors were.
So a while back I got all A ranks in NiD, once I did that I set out to get all A ranks in this game. It took me a while to get it but I managed to do it, just wanted to say thank you for this video. Without it, it would of taken me longer to do.
I have this game in my Wii, and i tried to play it 8 years ago but i couldn't even pass the first levels cause i didn't understand what to do, so i'm gonna try to play it again now that i think i will understand it more than before 😂
Might be late, but get the classic controller to play this game if you don't have one alraedy. WAY easier to play it that way, and it's more like how the Saturn version is played.
When we got to play Dreams Dreams by flying into notes as NiGHTS I could hardly pay attention cause I started crying. Especially when the Nightopians started singing along. Amazing game.
I watched this a few months back because I was doing an all A rank run. I didn't do it immediately But after some practice and watching you play, it all paid off. Got all Dreamdrops too. Never got to say thanks. So thanks. This really helped!😄👍🏼
Yeah, it just takes a bit of practice. The main thing to remember in this game is that the L/R triggers can give you quick little speed boosts without consuming any of your dash meter. Plus you get points for using them when collecting items.
You really don't need to memorize too much with the chase missions. One of the few big improvements in JoD over NiD is the shift in camera angle. The camera was moved to a three-quarter perspective behind NiGHTS, so you can easily see what's coming most of the time. :)
still dont see why this game got so many mediocre reviews i remember playing this vaguely in 07 and was on of the only few good times i had on the wii....... such a disappointment
+itsstillthinking1999 IMO, the criticism was warranted. The game does have a lot of flaws. My two biggest gripes: 1. The game doesn't control particularly well because of the choice of platform. The least bad control method is the GameCube pad. It's exceedingly difficult to get pinpoint accuracy out of it, and the octagonal gate around the thumbstick can be a major hinderance at times. Fortunately through emulation, I was able to use the Saturn 3D pad for this playthrough which helps a lot. 2. The scoring system has been scaled back tremendously. It's nowhere near as deep or interesting as in NiD, which in turn limits the game's replay value.
+Saturn Memories Agreed. Some folks speak poorly of Naka, but he was a terrific programmer. I'm sure if he had had a part in JoD, the core of the flying portions would have remained intact, rather than replacing them with the key gimmick. That small change sucked so much of the replay value and score attack out of NiGHTS.
ProDaKah ! Naka didn't want to create another NiGHTS unless they could do something completely new wtih it. I doubt a Naka-lead sequel would have resembled NiD. And keep in mind, Iizuka was the lead designer for the original game. He usually likes to talk about world building when he speaks about NiGHTS, but presumably, he would have been the one responsible for coming up with the scoring system and such as well. And who knows how JoD would have turned out had Sega not shifted the game from 360/PS3 to Wii mid-development. Apparently Iizuka had a much larger scale game in mind, but was directed to cut it down and move it to Wii.
+Saturn Memories I forgot about that shift to Wii from 360; certainly that stunted the game's growth potential. Even so, (and not to give Naka more credit than he's do, because there's a lot of that too) Naka's gaming preferences and portfolio clearly highlight score attack as a primary game component, and given that NiGHTS was his idea - plus his very dominant personality - he probably had a great deal of involvement and influence during development. Even if the next NiGHTS under him was completely different, I've no doubt it would've been another unforgettable experience. Sonic wasn't his creation, and it showed with how little he cared about it as time progressed. He has always been protective concerning NiGHTS, and its clear he didn't want a sequel made unless it could also be new and groundbreaking.
+Saturn Memories I wonder IF SEGA made a 3rd NiGHTS game it will be 8 dreamers (human kids) 6 of them (4 of them are already in Nid & JoD) will be with NiGHTS who is already living in Nightopia notices some of Reala's Goodles and Wizeman's Level 3 Nightmaren are kindly cooperating with Nightopians because an evil Nightmaren who's said that he is more powerful than Wizeman along with his two evil jester-like flight-capable beings are here to try to take over whole Night Dimension while the other 2 (a brother and sister) will be with NiGHTS's rival Reala who he has noticed that his master Wizeman the wicked's place Nightmare is under siege and he tells his master Wizeman that he is off to see the Old Lady (wizeman's opposite) in Nightopia and after that visit to the Old Lady's cottage he gets an Red Ideya of Courage embedded on his chest he's off to see blue bird (owl's friend)
You know, this would be an awesome movie! Edit: Better idea! An anime in which Nights is the self-proclaimed protector of children's dreams and each episode he enters a different child's dream and helps them beat back whatever nightmares are plaguing them! I think that'd be cool! I mean, I'd watch it!
the music.... it remind me of being a kid at my grandma's house playing the wii all day and her cooking me sweets and getting McD's, no worries, no responsabilities, no work... ah to be a kid again
@banjotooie64dkuy Huh. Didn't know. But I really hope one if the Smash Ultimate DLC Characters features NiGHTS: Into Dreams represented in one way or another.
Does anyone else wish they would rerelease this game for the Switch Systems. I just love the music 🎶 so very much. I only had this playing for like 20 minutes and I was fast asleep 💤.
It's strange. I didn't play the NiGHTS games at launch, I was late to the party. Yet because of NiGHTS being in games like Sega Superstars I have this huge emotional attachment to the character and music :')
I never actually played the game itself, but I loved this story and everytime I come back to this game, I am always on some sort of emotional rollercoaster! I wish Sega would make another game!! NiGHTS is such a great character and I would love to see more games in the future!! Also, does NiGHTS somehow survive in the true ending?? This has always thrown me for a loop.
From looking at it, looks more like he's reborn from the Idea of hope and Helen and Will's hearts being united. He's no longer a nightmaren. At least that's my theory.
God this game is so beautiful. I never played it before but the setting brings me back to my childhood and I just wish I could go back. It’s giving me this weird state of depression and extreme nostalgia
Although I've never played the official NiGHTS game, I kept choosing her as my avatar for Sega All Stars Tennis. My cousin chose Reala everytime I picked NiGHTS, and I always kicked his butt when we started the rallies(note that this was 7 years ago.)I can't believe he forgot we played that game!!
3:44 Are we not gonna mention the fact this dude got in a car, drove to the air port, went through air port security, boarded and took off in a matter of 2 seconds?
We can agree that most of us played this game, loved it , stopped playing early on either because we got distracted in the tutorial VISITOR or we grew up and never came back but it still resonated with us . For someone that loved and still loves Kingdom Hearts, Nights also invoked an air of mystery, mysticism and a central sense of DU-AL-LIZE happiness ( plus both soundtracks are GOD tier)
Y'know, even without upscaling it, this game is gorgeous, aging remarkably well for an early Wii title. Then again, most Wii games that went for bright colors and cartoony visuals aged better graphically than a lot of seventh gen games (See also: Zack and Wiki).
I never got to play the original game but this version has a special nostalgic place in my heart, I also in all my years of playing this game never beat it until recently which felt amazing btw, finally getting to finish this game and see it to it's end like I always dreamt but there's still lots of extra stuff so that's sweet ig
My only prior exposure to NiGHTS is sonic riders and that pinball minigame in sonic adventure. Just the opening cinematic on it's own already has me invested in them as a character! I feel like if sega ever made a theme park, a NiGHTS themed roller coaster would be awesome.
i've never really owned this game before as a kid bc i was too poor to have a Wii lol, but i really loved watching gameplays of this game in youtube. would love to see a remaster of this game and finally play it. this gameplay gives a gust of nostalgia somehow.
As much as I love Sonic, I must admit that Sonic Team performs much better when they make more original games. After Sonic Forces, they seriously need to take a break from Sonic and make something new, otherwise they’ll be creatively drained. Sonic Team has the capacity to make great stuff, and games like Nights are proof of that.
oh god. so it's really been more than 10 years since i played this. and i really sat here and watched all of this. i cried when i saw the memory forest concert part, i remember that stage so vividly... what a beautiful and one of a kind experience this game is. wow 💖 absolutely made my month better with all these memories
They should make this game a saga about Nights defeating Wiseman in other people's dreams because if anyone remembers, Wiseman says "as long as their is darkness in the hearts of people, I will never be defeated." Game developers should read the comments on youtube.
These games are so beautiful. I've never played this one because of how different it is from the first NiGHTS (my current favorite game) but just the way it looks is selling me on the game.
You may want to give it another try sometime because they're really quite simple. Just gotta use one analog stick, a face button, and optionally, the L/R buttons.
that was the most jarring thing for me, I couldn't do the forest melody stage because of lack of control with the wii controller. sometime after i finally got a controller.
Each time in order of the game you do the Octopaw link challenge and listen to the music: First: "I feel like having a dance party." Second: "Okay, it was cool once." Third: "This is just getting old." Fourth: "Oh my God. It's starting to ANNOY MEEE!" Fifth: "Jesus Christ! Someone cut my ears out so I can get hearing aids that I can manually toggle!" Sixth: "Last one. If I've gone this far, I can suck it up one more time." Seventh and so on: "HOLY HELL, WHY DID I PLAY THIS MISSION AGAIN!"
How does 1 game manage to be so fun, sad, dreamy, aesthetically pleasing, scary, peaceful, beautiful, & trippy at the same time. Bravo on this one, Sega 👏

@Axsoul CAMPBELL...whereas I'm pretty sure it was just a dream with nothing paranormal attached to it.
Are you sure that you don't met NIGHTS?
@@pablozanoto5801, I can't recall it was so long ago, but by the time I went through one of the doors I was in a winter wonderland... and I woke up
Looks like you may have visited the Night dimension. :)

Oh, the memories of playing this on my Wii!!
This game is STILL beautiful! ❤️
So a while back I got all A ranks in NiD, once I did that I set out to get all A ranks in this game. It took me a while to get it but I managed to do it, just wanted to say thank you for this video. Without it, it would of taken me longer to do.
this reminds me a lot of peter pan in a way, flying, the british accent, the dream world kinda like never land with its weirdness,
I have this game in my Wii, and i tried to play it 8 years ago but i couldn't even pass the first levels cause i didn't understand what to do, so i'm gonna try to play it again now that i think i will understand it more than before 😂
Might be late, but get the classic controller to play this game if you don't have one alraedy. WAY easier to play it that way, and it's more like how the Saturn version is played.
This was my first game and I still find new love for it every time
Love NiGHTS in the opening! So graceful!
5:02:50 - she was the child singer from the original version Dream Dreams back in 1996. A really nice touch.
When we got to play Dreams Dreams by flying into notes as NiGHTS I could hardly pay attention cause I started crying. Especially when the Nightopians started singing along. Amazing game.
2:54:00 I don't blame NIGHTS and Helen, that part was funny. Hahahahaha.

Expectation: Try to get at least 30 links! 22:34
Reality: Literally maxes out the link count to 999 27:44
And they only get an A rank, like that's bull on the rating system man
I watched this a few months back because I was doing an all A rank run. I didn't do it immediately But after some practice and watching you play, it all paid off. Got all Dreamdrops too. Never got to say thanks. So thanks. This really helped!😄👍🏼
Thanks Saturn Memories!
For loving my comment!
Yeah, it just takes a bit of practice. The main thing to remember in this game is that the L/R triggers can give you quick little speed boosts without consuming any of your dash meter. Plus you get points for using them when collecting items.
Saturn Memories I still play the game today. Well, only the chase missions anyway. They are surprisingly easy to memorize!
My two biggest gripes:
I used to love this game. The flying in the sky at night.
This games bosses scared the shit out of me as a kid lmao
Late but same lmao I always had to leave the room when the girania boss came on
This was me with Queen Bella the Arachnophobia hit HARD
You know, this would be an awesome movie!
Edit: Better idea! An anime in which Nights is the self-proclaimed protector of children's dreams and each episode he enters a different child's dream and helps them beat back whatever nightmares are plaguing them! I think that'd be cool! I mean, I'd watch it!
I agree 😊 I wonder if they can get Spielberg to Direct it
Yooo that anime would be 🔥
Please make it!! I wanna watch that!
That beautiful quality!
when she woke up crying over nights i felt that
the music.... it remind me of being a kid at my grandma's house playing the wii all day and her cooking me sweets and getting McD's, no worries, no responsabilities, no work... ah to be a kid again
It took 11 years that the sequel for NiGHTS into Dreams has to be created.
Around 4:13:20 it seems like Helen loses her British accent for a few lines?
Yeah she did
They all do
Yes
WE NEED A NEW NIGHTS GAME WITH ANOTHER GOOD SOUNDTRACK LIKE THIS ONE 🥺🧸
It’s so nostalgic. I had this game, but I never understand it how to solve everything - I guess I was dumb 😂 I love it
SEGA knows how to make great games and gaming icons
Sonic,NiGHTS...Most favourite of mine.
@banjotooie64dkuy wait, vocaloid was Sega?
@banjotooie64dkuy Huh. Didn't know. But I really hope one if the Smash Ultimate DLC Characters features NiGHTS: Into Dreams represented in one way or another.

I agree 150% Sega made some great games. I got love for the Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast even as an adult today!
Does anyone else wish they would rerelease this game for the Switch Systems. I just love the music 🎶 so very much. I only had this playing for like 20 minutes and I was fast asleep 💤.
This game looks amazing in HD, they should port this thing.
Back here after 5 years I’ve always wanted to play the games this incredible

It's strange. I didn't play the NiGHTS games at launch, I was late to the party. Yet because of NiGHTS being in games like Sega Superstars I have this huge emotional attachment to the character and music :')
Same, that main theme melody sticks out heavily to me
Aside from Saturn console having the most in-game vocal tracks to date, Sega (and Enix) has to be the most imaginative bunch of game creators.
Enix loved to copy Star Wars, Sega is good because its like a cartoon.
3:40 Dont worry son I'm just getting a pack of cigarettes.
You know what I would really love
Sonic + nights crossover
_..again?_
I just bought this game for $10 based on this video. This looks amazing. A great game is a great game no matter when you play it. Thanks!
At least that's my theory.
im crying ty for reminding me i used to play this with my brother a lot.. i miss him.
Bruh I used to play this when I was a kid I feel so nostalgic rn
God this game is so beautiful. I never played it before but the setting brings me back to my childhood and I just wish I could go back. It’s giving me this weird state of depression and extreme nostalgia
Although I've never played the official NiGHTS game, I kept choosing her as my avatar for Sega All Stars Tennis. My cousin chose Reala everytime I picked NiGHTS, and I always kicked his butt when we started the rallies(note that this was 7 years ago.)I can't believe he forgot we played that game!!

Are we not gonna mention the fact this dude got in a car, drove to the air port, went through air port security, boarded and took off in a matter of 2 seconds?
This game is art!

That music at the gate makes me wanna lay down and look at the stars
Loved this game so much!! They should bring it back for the Wii U!

Switch threequel where are you??
As much as I love Sonic, I must admit that Sonic Team performs much better when they make more original games. After Sonic Forces, they seriously need to take a break from Sonic and make something new, otherwise they’ll be creatively drained. Sonic Team has the capacity to make great stuff, and games like Nights are proof of that.
SEGA needs to release the NiGHTS games on the PS4 and other consoles.
Don’t you worry, there is a new VR space channel 5.
oh god. so it's really been more than 10 years since i played this. and i really sat here and watched all of this. i cried when i saw the memory forest concert part, i remember that stage so vividly... what a beautiful and one of a kind experience this game is. wow 💖 absolutely made my month better with all these memories

I think the game had an interesting concept, but the controls were too difficult for me
You may want to give it another try sometime because they're really quite simple. Just gotta use one analog stick, a face button, and optionally, the L/R buttons.
+Saturn Memories I used the standard Wii motion controller.
***** Nooooooo. Don't do that. Plug a GameCube controller in.
+Saturn Memories this was a few years ago and I didn't have a game cube controller.
that was the most jarring thing for me, I couldn't do the forest melody stage because of lack of control with the wii controller. sometime after i finally got a controller.
Each time in order of the game you do the Octopaw link challenge and listen to the music:
First: "I feel like having a dance party."
Second: "Okay, it was cool once."
Third: "This is just getting old."
Fourth: "Oh my God. It's starting to ANNOY MEEE!"
Fifth: "Jesus Christ! Someone cut my ears out so I can get hearing aids that I can manually toggle!"
Sixth: "Last one. If I've gone this far, I can suck it up one more time."
Seventh and so on: "HOLY HELL, WHY DID I PLAY THIS MISSION AGAIN!"
Yeah they really did need to change octopaw's tactics every single time to prevent things from going stale.
Oh wow this is unlocking memories
