I never even thought of planting beans in those. That's awesome. Thank you for sharing this!! With groceries costing what they cost and having an aging parent with a very small space, this is brilliant. I will definitely be doing this for her this year so she can have fresh bean's.
I have been growing bush beans in my Greenstalk for years. Also bush tomato plants do wonderful in a Greenstalk. Peppers Greenstalk I have an herb and salad garden Greenstalk also. My harvest are crazy. Give container gardening try.
Never get tired of fresh green beans, they can be cooked so many good ways. Favs are teriyaki and bacon n onion. I want to try those dragon beans. Also asparagus beans. Biggest problem I’ve had here in south Florida is the hot wind, just general high heat, and the little containers dry out fast. You have a wonderful back yard. You are such a well spoken and cute young lady, I will subscribe!
To work with the hot winds, and sun scald you can buy a sheer woven sun cloth that you drape and secure to posts with clamps over your rows or patch. This lets in rain and plenty of sun, but minimizes any damage. There is a darker version if you want to maintain the HEAT in your rows to extend the growing season, of lettuces or second broccoli growth, or even tomatoes. Beans will continue to flower if adequate light and warmth is provided, so more beans to eat! Keep watered and work in a small handful of fertilizer (for flowers n vegetables) around each.
Thank you so much. You should see me new videos. I know can grow twice the amount of food. I currently have a 20 foot Black Cherry Tomatoe growing in my small space.
I loved this video. This is the first year of my life and I'm 63, that I've had a run in with fungus knits, uggg. Thanks for your input about the cinnamon. My hubby wanted to buy chemicals to get rid of them, I'm not into that stuff. I also didn't realize you could grow so many bean plants together in such small a area. I can't wait to get started. Wish I was in your location, I'm in Kansas and it's late February, I'm so ready to get my garden going, my little green house is over flowing. Until next time, happy growing.
You can use a food container with small holes poked all over the top to get rid of fungus gnats. I use half warm water/half apple cider vinegar with a drop of dawn dish soap to break surface tension so they fall in and drown in the water/vinegar combo. They are super attracted to apple cider vinegar. I put a pinch of sugar or honey in if I really want to get them coming in quick to the trap. After they thin out, I dump it and rinse it for the inevitable surge of the next round of hatched gnats coming out of the soil. When that happens, I repeat the process. That usually gets rid of the whole batch of them and the problem is over. Cinnamon never worked for me in the house, apple cider vinegar worked far better and faster.

I live in Florida and we have like 4 different types of fire ants on our property. I have a fire ant guy that comes and treats my property every 4 months but not around my garden. I use containers to garden as I am older and have arthritis and some mobility issues with my ankles and knees anymore. But I find those ants hate the smell of cinnamon. Ohhhh no 4 types!!! This is how I got ants out of my garden I had them once th-cam.com/video/C4R4leHpHTQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pkEzpNlr2J3GbGFF. Ants aren't a huge problem here in the desert but sometimes we get them.
So glad I found this video. Had to order a case of the planters from Dollar Tree online because none of my local stores had them. I’m not only planting bush green beans but also bush black beans and bush pinto beans. Yay!
I did this in my stackable Dollar Tree planters last year with Burgundy, Gold Rush, and Contender Bush Bean mix. They did great! I stacked 2 high so every compartment would receive rain evenly.
So it would have been great but we had a crazy year of fires in California which made out weather terrible, also the bag soil I used from home depot was completely infest with everything and on top of all that since the fires affected our temperatures we had 70mph haboos roll in with 110 degree Temps. Haboos are a giant wall of sand that moves across the state lol. I was so jealous because everyone that started them with me when I did the video was sending me all these pictures of their towers full of beans.
@@TeamBensonHomestead That is too bad. Are you going to try again this year? How long does a bean bush last for? You said that they grow big over time, so is it harder to rotate the stackables after a certain growing time?

I just found your channel and I have to tell you that I enjoyed this video so much! Can't wait to watch more! Great gardening advice!!! I bought 12 of those Dollar Tree planters in January and will be planting Contender bush beans in them in about 2 weeks. I garden in south Mississippi and our spring is getting a later start than usual this year. Have a wonderful week! ~GCG
In the midwest, those lovely pots would be a mess after the 1st rain. I'd suggest using a drill to poke holes in the bottom before adding soil. I love the cinnamon idea. Thanks for sharing.
@@TeamBensonHomestead Your welcome. Learned it from Next level Gardening. He gardens in California but has lots of tips. Another tip-- when seed started weather using store bought or yr own diy seed starting mix always moisten mix with boiling water to kill those eggs.
Just found your channel after 10 yrs gardening in Sunlakes. Haven't tried bush beans, haven't had luck growing pole beans or long beans! I believe I'll try Bush beans. Thank you, glad I found your channel, made my day! Subscribed!🤗❤️😎
It was 89° here today and it’s still officially winter. Spring is official in 2 days though. 😜 I hate trying to grow anything that trails in containers. So this is great to know about the beans. I missed out on the stackable pots. They never keep enough stock in of what everyone wants. I see some halfway decent priced ones on Amazon, so I may order those. I hate those fungus gnats. Last year I got a lot of them. This year I did a ton of research to try and keep from getting them. I switched to Happy Frog potting soil and switched to coco coir to grow my seedlings in. So far, so good.
Yeah I swear the Dollar Tree only makes so many to make people wait every year lol. Gnats are the worst. Normally I let me potting soil dry out before putting it in my garden
I'm excited to find your channel. I'm 52 and pretty much a first time gardener this year. I will be doing most of it in a Greenstalk, but there will be a soil garden too (I'm just too phobic of snakes and worms to enter that lair!) I'm planning on starting some seeds this week. So far I have mostly herbs, but I'm also going to start some rainbow chard, romaine, and cucumbers.
what a wonderful video! Thank you so much. I just picked up the stackable containers from Dollar Tree and now I know exactly what I am going to plant in them. New subscriber!
I’m so glad you made this video because I was able to get 30 plants in 5 stackables and then 6 more in 2 other planters (I did that before realizing I can plant 2 seeds per side of the pot). Also I planted 10 strawberry plants/crowns in 3 stackables and they’re doing great! I drilled a hole in the center of 6 stackables and drove a 3’ rebar into the ground, placed a concrete block over it and slowly stacked the planters on top of the rebar and concrete block. This way they shouldn’t tip over in the wind (hopefully). I’ve heard you could also use a 2” x 12-18” length PVC pipe instead of the concrete block but I just had the block available. I can also rotate the planters fairly easily for the best sun exposure as needed. Still, it looks beautiful and I’m so happy with my beans growing out of these planters! I also planted my blackberry and elderberry crowns in my stackable planters for now until they get bigger and I can prepare their permanent spot on our property. Thank you again for making these videos because it has truly saved me so much money and trouble and gave me ideas to plant in a way of which I hadn’t thought. Watering goes very quickly as well and my plants are so easy to maintain. I have two GreenStalks as well and honestly these stackables are so great to work with and makes vertical growing so approachable on a strict budget. I don’t need to buy the Greenstalks anymore. Growing is so satisfying this way! Visually it’s also stunning to look out my window and see them. They’re just so aesthetically pleasing to look at!
Dragon tongue beans are my favorites. And Malabar spinach does well here in the heat. I use cinnamon for ants but will be trying it for fungus gnats as well.
If you haven't tried them before, I think you may well like Red Swan beans too. They are prolific, pretty, and very tasty. They'll keep producing for ages. I usually grow Blue Lake as my climbing bean, and I've tried many others as bush beans, but that Red Swan beat them all last year. They also froze very well too.

Great garden! Yes, I grow bush beans every year. They are so much better and take up less room.
Thank you 😊 yes bush beans are so nice. You can get a ton of beans in a small space.
You really are made for this. Great channel. Thanks for the info. Just bought my first stacker.
Thank you so much 💓
I just found your channel and I have to tell you that I enjoyed this video so much! Can't wait to watch more! Great gardening advice!!! I bought 12 of those Dollar Tree planters in January and will be planting Contender bush beans in them in about 2 weeks. I garden in south Mississippi and our spring is getting a later start than usual this year. Have a wonderful week! ~GCG
Big welcome to my channel! And nice those planters go so fast. I hope you guys didn't get hit to hard with the crazy weather
@@TeamBensonHomestead We didn't get snow but it did get down in the 20s. It killed a lot of my garden, even the protected stuff.
Oh no well sending you tons of warm vibes for a great growing season.
Contender has done better for me (in MD) than any other variety! Great flavor, and I did some excellent dilly bean pickles with them also.
Amazing!
Thanks!
Great video thank you
Thank you 😊
In the midwest, those lovely pots would be a mess after the 1st rain. I'd suggest using a drill to poke holes in the bottom before adding soil. I love the cinnamon idea. Thanks for sharing.
They don't love the rainy season here either but now I learned when to plant in them.
you have a wonder little garden with a big impact ....great job
Thank you so much 💓
Your garden is amazing. I'm going to copy you on this one. Thanks.
Thank you my garden is my happy place
@@TeamBensonHomestead Me Too!!
We're so blessed to be able to have them.
Thank you. Love idea of cinnamon
anytime I hope it helps you!
Vermiculite light layer on top keeps fungus knats far away. That is what I do with seed starter when starting inside seeds like Tomato/,Peppers
Oh that's a great tip thank you 😊
@@TeamBensonHomestead Your welcome.
Big welcome to my channel!!! I'm happy to have you here!
Thank you!
Anytime 😊
See stackabke dolar tree everywhere but my stores don't have any, i have some bean sprouted, purple bush beans
They sell out pretty but sometimes they restock them online.
Bush beans are awesome!! 89 degrees!!!
Yeah it was warm today but it's only for the next two days. But we are full spring it feels like.
It was 89° here today and it’s still officially winter. Spring is official in 2 days though. 😜
I hate trying to grow anything that trails in containers.
I always dry out my soil
From the store. Especially fox farm. Wonderful soil but it can be wet and gnat filled.
❤❤❤Just happened across this channel. Good luck. Thanks for the tips
Welcome to my channel !!
Big welcome to my channel and yay congrats on your first garden!!! May you have an amazing harvest and a beautiful growing journey!!
I really enjoy your presentation. A new subscriber here. Thank you for sharing.
Hey thank you so much and big welcome to my channel
what a wonderful video! Thank you so much. I just picked up the stackable containers from Dollar Tree and now I know exactly what I am going to plant in them. New subscriber!
Big welcome to my channel I have some going right now in the pots!!!
Yay I'm happy it was helpful and nice you got a lot of plants. That's so exciting!!!
Dragon tongue beans are my favorites. And Malabar spinach does well here in the heat. I use cinnamon for ants but will be trying it for fungus gnats as well.
I love love love dragon tongue bush beans
If you haven't tried them before, I think you may well like Red Swan beans too. They are prolific, pretty, and very tasty. They'll keep producing for ages. I usually grow Blue Lake as my climbing bean, and I've tried many others as bush beans, but that Red Swan beat them all last year. They also froze very well too.
Oh I will have to try those. Red is my favorite color so I love having red things in my garden.
I'm going to try growing my fall bush beans in my $Tree stackables! What a great idea!
Nice you will have to tell me how you like it. I'm going to be planting bean towers this fall.
I’m so excited to try this! Glad I found you! From GA
Welcome to my channel! I just planted some more beans in mine for this year again.
