I really like this channel. I love all science based videos but this channel seems to do things differently. Instead of tackling a question in 5 minuets like SciShow, "The Good Stuff" spends a lot of time and really gets into the heart and soul of a question. Thank you guys for your fantastic work.
What about oversleeping? Is that possible? I can sleep a solid 12-14hrs and wake up tired and stay sleepy all day but if I sleep 6-8hrs I'm more awake. I love sleep so its worth the day sleepiness for the extra hours in bed. Am I broken? I'm tired... ZZzz... -_- ... great videos btw it was super intresting cos sleep is a passion of mine... *yawn* goodnight
Hooray! Last video of the SLEEP Playlist is up! Not that I'm glad that there's no more videos or that this is all over with I'm just glad that you can all see all the videos now you know what I mean come on guys duh guys.
pineappleboyfilms Informative, maybe, but funny? I know you guys are friends, but still... Besides, I'm still waiting for my powers to develope, and NOTHING'S HAPPENING. Last time I based my life expectations on an online scifi series... Sheesh!
I am a teenager, and I talked out loud while watching this video. My response to the tips on how to sleep better and wake up earlier was: "yes. Yes. YES!!" I am severely sleep deprived and can relate and attest to every fact in the video. This helped me so much! Thank you! ZZZzzzzzz
These guys' comedic timing is so well-developed. I just found out about this channel a couple days ago and find myself laughing out loud several times per video. It's extremely rare that I laugh out loud. What fun!
In answer to the question about the four hour sleep pill, my response would be “So what, do I get tired at the same time and wake up at 2:00? Will I get tired earlier from waking up sooner? What does that actually mean?” Honestly, we frame our LIVES around sleep. It is the hard divide between days. It would be rather hard to appropriate your time without a necessary stop like that. That isn’t really covered here, but the psychological and mental value of sleep as a definite end of the day is immensely important.
Great playlist - plenty of digestible information throughout with a healthy amount of humour thrown in here and there to keep you engaged. Nice work guys.
f.lux is a realy good software for late night working on the computer , it changes the colors of your screen as the day passes so your eyes are more relaxed
I actually did this during my whole high school period!!! I woke up everyday 4am to play until 6am and then go to school. The thing is, i was going to sleep 22~23 everyday, so thats pretty far from 8h hehe
I loooove my sleep and since I started working in early childhood, my sleep pattern has been a lot easier to regulate. Sadly it does often mean going to bed at 1030 like a grandma, when I'd prefer to stay up that extra hour. But more and more I find I'm waking up feeling awake and happy instead of groggy and reluctant to get out of bed. I find ASMR really helpful if I can't sleep. I also have an app that tracks my sleep.so I can see if I'm getting a restful sleep or if I'm tossing and turning a lot.
I couldn't sleep so I watched this playlist. Very good and incredibly interesting. Will continue with my own research at uni :) Thanks for the opportunity to hear from these brilliant professionals!
samramdebest Playing an instrument or listening to an audiobook is pretty much all I can think of, since they're both auditory. No wonder people don't get enough sleep, there's nothing to do when you can't see!
I recently started taking a tbsp of honey before sleep and it's doing wonders for me! My sleep is deeper and I'm even dreaming and I remember the dreams! I also, try not to eat past 9 p.m. and I had to stop caffeine because it was messing my sleep cycle up.
That's pretty interesting! I hadn't thought about how we really don't care as much about sleeping as we do about other things like nutrition and exerciser. Maybe our society needs to change. It's not okay for everyone to live exhausted all the time.
Thanks, that was really interesting and helpful. From now on sleep is number one!... after food...and homework...and school...and friends...and family... and fun...and exercise(ish) so number 8!
I just love this channel--especially how you guys take the time to find the experts and let them share their thoughts in addition to yours. You guys are great, thanks for sharing! :D
I have a question for you guys, does it matter when you sleep, like does it matter if you go to bed really late, but also wake up really late? Or is it just important to sleep enough?
Very good playlist! Bravo!!! One question: In the videos you (and the doctors) mention the "good night sleep". Did you learned anything about siesta? In Mediterranean countries was very common to sleep after lunch, but nowadays we have (I think) reduced it a lot...
Hey guys, This is my first series of videos I've seen of yours (just added you after the mental floss calculator thing recently). Just wanted to say it was well done and informative while being funny and entertaining, and that your chemistry together is really endearing as well. I hope to see more from you in the future! I was kind of wondering as well, does Craig have any allergies along with the asthma, perhaps a dust mite allergy? Those things pretty much make a kingdom out of bedding and other thick fabric-y things that we get our powdered toast all over. I was just wondering what the primary cause of the congestion at nighttime was. Thanks again!
Interesting playlist, guys. I learned a lot. Still, It would have been even more interesting to hear some of those experts give their opinions on naps and polyphasic sleep.
There are people who remember their dreams more easily than others. I also have heard rumors about ways to more easily remember dreams. Any chance we might get a video about that?
I'm currently trying to turn my sleep cycle around 180 degrees. Until last week, I had to work from 1.30 pm to 11.00 pm. Now Have a different shift and have to work from 1.30 am to 10.30 am. It's really messing with my sleep. I sleep a lot since I am always tired now (well, even more than usually) but It feels like I don't sleep as deep as before. I hope I get the hang of it soon...
It is currently 4:30 AM. My circadian rhythm is off and always has been. When I am forced to wake up early (and early can be defined as like 9 am), I'm exhausted and I end up crashing in the afternoon. During college, it wouldn't be uncommon for me to sleep longer in the afternoon than I did at night. Also, it takes me a long time to fall asleep in general, and the usual methods don't work. I can't exercise and I spend a lot of time in bed because I have a bad knee (hopefully this will change soon, but I haven't been able to run since two surgeries ago). Avoiding bright light is...kinda impossible? And most of the other "don'ts" listed are things I don't do, anyways. Perhaps I should do a sleep study.
In winter, we cannot do the shades opening thing. We have to go to work and get up in the dark, if I'd get up when the sun rises in winter, I would be late for work.
I follow all those advices, im sleeping 8hours a day and i still wake up very tired(after an hour it passes), so there must be something wrong in my brain.
I really should work harder to get more sleep. Who knows what toxins I'm allowing to hang out in my brain with my inability to turn off at night. Plus, I'm sure my lack of a desire to get up in the morning will be decreased with better sleep.
+Mike Savage It seems like professionals that work in sleep clinics haven't even looked into other patterns of sleep, the science seems to be very primitive still. Personally I've spent a couple months on a schedule of approximately a 1 hour 40 min main sleep with four 15-minute naps. The amount I learned about how my own sleeping works and the way it trains the brain to quickly fall into REM has been invaluable, I went from having significant difficulties falling asleep and maintaining a regular sleep pattern and no ability to nap, to someone that sleeps exceptionally well and can take refreshing power-naps on a whim.
+The Bearfat Most medications that help you fall asleep impair the brain's ability to fall into REM sleep, resulting in feeling unrested upon waking, or needing to sleep significantly longer to get enough REM sleep.
zaxtrap Well, I'm not sure if it's available on there, but here's a live performance we produced of Mr. Old Earth himself, Todd Umhoefer, performing it. th-cam.com/video/DJA1wDrSEe8/w-d-xo.html
IRONY = It's 7.51am, i've been awake for roughly 40 hours (little over 2 nites & a day) & i'm watching this entire Sleep Playlist . . . still unable to fall asleep. Basically since high school (i graduated in 98) without sleeping pills i'm usually awake for around 3 days, then i'll doze off for about 3-4 hours, wake up & stay up for another 2-3 days, & then fall asleep & sleep for 24-30 consecutive hours. Then wake up, stay up for about 3 days & the cycle begins again . . .
"Schools starting later and less homework." That is defiantly something I can't argue with!
Yep.

Mike Orr Hey thanks!
Ace. I am going to show this to my parents. Video games when I wake up. I wholeheartedly agree.
Grant Davis just one round of tetris is all it takes

WheezyWaiter Awesome series on an amazing topic. Nice!
WheezyWaiter I've been subscribed since the beginning. Seeing the improvement on this channel since then is really amazing. Keep it up!
You guys are on fire. That was absolutely the funniest playlist yet. Still informative though.

I panicked when I thought Craig was younger than me, then I realized they were just joking omg. I literally had to look up his real age Ahahahah!

Such a terrific topic for a playlist. This one was quite fantastic. Thank you for it!

These videos are a perfect beginner's crash course in sleep medicine. Solid work. I love that he's got a WBEZ mug in the beginning lol

Very good stuff guys! :)
I could really have done with this video last night. I enjoyed the playlist a lot though! Looking forward to the next playlist.
I appreciated the sudden cut to an actual interview with Craig's Mom

as a person with lacking sleep you're much more likely to show interest to the topic at hand, so its pretty normal

These guys and this channel is great! Definitely worth contributing to.
Loving this playlist, it's really helpful (especially in the middle of exams!)

Exercise regularly?
Avoid bright light: what am I suppose to do the last hour?

samramdebest Read a book.
Kieran Mayer ...Which requires light.
+samramdebest Meditate
great playlist, im just having trouble accepting the fact that i need sleep

Watching The Good Stuff videos is = watching informative videos + comedy videos
😃😃😃
well prepared playlist and videos, tnx and good work!
I totally totally enjoy it! Thank you so very much!

Go directly to 8:10
The good stuff is great stuff!

I wish they did research food coma properly, I feel sleepy very often after a meal.
also eliminate noise
MAH STREEEEET! You passed mah street!
Right we need to all sleep starting from now
Definitely lower production and less seamless writing than what Craig produces nowadays, at least I feel. Still great content and good tips!
Thanks, Good Stuff!
good video! now, I need to sleep...
Watching this at 01:00 while trying to fall asleep...
this is school work for me
Nice timing to find this vid, it's 01:51 and i gotta get up at 7
love you guys
Good stuff.
In winter, we cannot do the shades opening thing. We have to go to work and get up in the dark, if I'd get up when the sun rises in winter, I would be late for work.
I highly enjoyed this one. Hmmm.
More sleep and less homework, sounds good to me!
My head feels really heavy when i wake up. What does that mean?
I follow all those advices, im sleeping 8hours a day and i still wake up very tired(after an hour it passes), so there must be something wrong in my brain.
School at 7am!? since when, its always been 9am here
Where can I buy The Good Stuff poster?
I went in for a sleep study there. They found out I had severe OSA.
My school starts at 7:00 so the students have to wake up by 6:00 to get ready and not miss the bus. (Which comes at 6:45)
Currently watching this at 1 AM *sigh*
1:20 in the morning on a school night...maybe I should go to sleep...
I'm watching this at 3 am...oops...
Dat wink tho. Brilliant!
I really should work harder to get more sleep. Who knows what toxins I'm allowing to hang out in my brain with my inability to turn off at night. Plus, I'm sure my lack of a desire to get up in the morning will be decreased with better sleep.
no mention of polyphasic sleep?
What's that?
+The Bearfat it is the practice of sleeping multiple times in a 24 hour period (2+)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyphasic_sleep
+Mike Savage It seems like professionals that work in sleep clinics haven't even looked into other patterns of sleep, the science seems to be very primitive still.

I fell asleep while watching this playlist. Ha!
Ah yes, watched the playlist, now onto the 2 hours of sleep until I have to get up for school :(
Definitely not watching this when I should be asleep, nope, not me.
We have all this data but no one listens...
I regret watching this at 01:32 AM in my bed.
I subbed cause of it's ok to be smart
Love it, love it, love it!!! Hilarious!!!
I DO respect sleep. It is my job that doesn't respect sleep.
Yes, watching this video while I should actually be sleeping was a bad idea.
How can I get that Old Earth song thats plays at the end?
zaxtrap link to Old Earth in the Doobly-doo!
Thank but I can't seem to find this song on their bandcamp site!
zaxtrap Well, I'm not sure if it's available on there, but here's a live performance we produced of Mr. Old Earth himself, Todd Umhoefer, performing it. th-cam.com/video/DJA1wDrSEe8/w-d-xo.html
This is great thanks!
*Points at camera* "You probably need sleep. You definitely need sleep." It's nearly 3am... So yes, I do.
4:43 *I am going to die because of the cringyness*
"People are sleeping less and less"
And there you see me watching this video at 2:34am...
who knew 4 years later that someone else is doing the exact same thing at the exact same time lmaoo
do you know what is funny ?
I just end this playlist and it's 4am

i wake up at 8am, take a nap from 11 till 12, live my life, 6pm, nap till 9, 1am, sleep, then repeat
2:16 fuck yeah
I'm watching this at 2 am
Is it ironic that Im skipping sleep to watch this?
I watched this at 1am. (It's not inbetween sleeps😉)
