Before vertical stand: my slim ps5 disc drive was rather loud in vertical with no stand. With cheap clip in horizontal stand: disc drive a little quieter. With vertical stand: whisper quiet. Good enough for me.
It exists for the same reason Sony made the slim models, which were to cut manufacturing costs make more per console and not pass them on to the consumers. This is probably the same mindset when designing and pricing the $30 stand. Sony virtually has no competition at this point, so they can do as they please, and fans will just eat it up.
Mine will always be horizontal, to be this is a subtle hint that they dont want you to place it vertically. The likelihood for problems is much higher.
What really bothers me is that for the same price, you can buy stands on the internet that come with cooler fans, LED lights and buttons to control the system (on/off). Some of these “parallel” stands also offer controller charger stands built in. Not the best quality, but way more functional.
Sony are really dropping the ball when it comes to accessories - $30 for a stand, $200 for a premium controller with bad battery life, $200 for a remote play tablet... OK, this is a stand and no-one "needs" to buy it, but at least price it accordingly and put some thought into the presentation. Overall it just feels like they are phoning it in at this point and charging premium prices just because they can.
It reminds me of the horizontal stand that Sony released for the PS2. Yes, that's right, you did read that correctly. Sony actually released a stand for the PS2 that you could sit it in when laying it horizontally. I believe it was more for aesthetics than anything else as the ends of it had the same light to dark blue gradient as the vertical stand. I remember actually laughing out loud at it when I saw it on store shelves as even back then it was rather expensive for something that was pretty much pointless.
I just bought my first PS5 (slim) and it's the disc version. It does stand on it's own but I was wondering if it helps with air flow from the bottom of the system? If not, I will definitely not be buying one.
The fact is the stand with the original ps5 was plastic junk for a console costing AU$750. I prefer the higher quality metal vertical stand which actually works with the original amd the slim and feels a lot more high end than just a bit of plastic that screws on.
I bought my Slim via eBay and the stand was included in that auction… I ended up reselling that stand 😂 the slim stands perfectly fine without one as well
Good information. I'm not a fan of the money grab that this is, BUT I did not know it is compatible with both versions of the PS5. It does look better than than the original stand but not sure Ima replace it for $30
If you put the ps5 vertical without a stand it has a bit more trouble pushing the hot air out through the bottom. I,ve seen people put them close to the tv near a kabinet and having some overheating issues. This stand would prevent that and more stability is nice if you got pets in ur house that run past it.
If its anything like the previous official Playstation Stands - they should jump up in value a few years after discontinuation because no one bought them and they're now impossible to find.
Not only will the Sony dorks buy this 30$ stand but they will also overheat their system because the liquid metal moving down because of gravity and overheat their Slims just because having it standing vertikal 😂

It's like everyone forgot that the PS4 slim and pro had an official stand for $20
And yet the same Spawn Wave was complaining the PS5 Pro didn't come with a stand when it announced, and yet 10 months ago it was useless...so many contradictions with gaming content creators
Watching this now knowing the pro doesn't come with the stand lessens the blow knowing you dont need the stand to keep it vertical
The portal was a waste of money !
Before vertical stand: my slim ps5 disc drive was rather loud in vertical with no stand. With cheap clip in horizontal stand: disc drive a little quieter. With vertical stand: whisper quiet. Good enough for me.
The PS2 slim I bought the vertical stand for it. Loved the look. This one I’m not so sure.
So the OG PS5 comes with a stand, but they couldn't include it in the new version?
Like I said cash grab
It exists for the same reason Sony made the slim models, which were to cut manufacturing costs make more per console and not pass them on to the consumers. This is probably the same mindset when designing and pricing the $30 stand. Sony virtually has no competition at this point, so they can do as they please, and fans will just eat it up.
There are vents on the bottom, and I’m sure that helps with the air flow which by putting the stand on helps that
Pro tip. Vertical POS5 liquid metal will not retain equal depth across Soc and is horrible design.
I’m confused my launch PS5 came with vertical stand in the box
The ps5 slim doesn't come with a vertical stand in the box like the original one did, that's why this exists
Living under a rock huh?
Mine will always be horizontal, to be this is a subtle hint that they dont want you to place it vertically. The likelihood for problems is much higher.
Horizontal always seemed safer and just made more sense considering everything else connected to the tv is horizontal.
Have you found an answer to this because I’m worried it will affect air flow
Now you know why it exists. 🤣
Playstation has lost it's way...hopefully under new management things will eventually turn around
The stand is for the airflow from downside of the ps5... 😀
It exist to take your money.
I have cats. The digital version is definitely going over sideways without a stand.
This playstation has the worst design of any piece of tech I've ever seen
Well to be fair.... Sony is a Japanese company, and Earthquakes are a daily occurence there... so. XD
The fact is the stand with the original ps5 was plastic junk for a console costing AU$750. I prefer the higher quality metal vertical stand which actually works with the original amd the slim and feels a lot more high end than just a bit of plastic that screws on.
I wonder if Sony was trying to come up with a horizontal stand and had an Erica moment opening a pizza box and seeing the plastic pizza saver. lol
what do you mean
Who is Erica?
They're pulling an apple
that thing can stand on itself very well dont need one
I bought my Slim via eBay and the stand was included in that auction… I ended up reselling that stand 😂 the slim stands perfectly fine without one as well
Bought it used for 17 bucks.
Will the liquid metal slide to the bottom of the chip so it over heats faster
Yes cause gravity still exists for PlayStations.
A use case I could imagine is PSVR 2 since you’ll have cables going everywhere.
To think that in 20 years from now, retro-gamers will pay thousands for that rarity…
Only if it comes complete in-box, with that manual, the extra plate, and the screw.
If its anything like the previous official Playstation Stands - they should jump up in value a few years after discontinuation because no one bought them and they're now impossible to find.
this is somthing i would need as i dont have deskspace i gotta put it on my carpet floor and the stands bring it up just enouph so it wont overheat
Not only will the Sony dorks buy this 30$ stand but they will also overheat their system because the liquid metal moving down because of gravity and overheat their Slims just because having it standing vertikal 😂
Throw one up for the GameCube a far superior console!
Without a disk drive and with kids, the width of the stand is going to save many of PlayStation. That said, should be in the box.
