COMPARISON - The 1984 - 1987 Honda ATC 125M - The Rarest, Most Hard To Find Honda Three Wheeler?

  • Here we go again lining up all the model years of one of Hondas three wheelers models. This time it's the ATC125M. Made from 1984 up until Honda had to stop selling them in the US in 1987, these little three wheelers have become endeared to many as "their first three wheeler". Unique because they were Honda's first "kid size", electric start machine.
    The 2nd gen 1986/1987 Model was even more advanced as it offered reverse; the only chain drive ATC to do so!
    There's more info where that came from. Check this vide out and let me know what I missed! I'm sure I missed something!

    How is it that I just learned about this channel??? Great vid buddy, thanks for putting in the time it takes to make these - Its an awesome resource for the rest of us.... and a far as I'm concerned, much more entertaining than wasting time on tic toc .... although I bet if you danced a little somewhere in your video your viewer numbers would likely skyrocket, just a thought ;)

      Ha! That is a great question! I'm definitely not shy once I post them... I pimp the link out to about any group that applies, so I think it must be that you're spending too much time with your face not buried in your device. And that is probably a great thing. Anyway, thank you VERY much for the kind words man. That means a lot coming from you. I figured it would be neat to do comparisons and also document the life and times of a trike addicted middle aged guy going through possibly a mid life crisis. Whatever it is, I'm just having fun. And I will take your dance suggestion under consideration... That would be outside my comfort zone... but I'm kinda there anyways... so why not! Hope you're feeling better and hope to see you at Trike Fest!

It got a bore, high comp piston, big mikuni and manifold, Uni filter, cam and a killer port and polish and it would light the tires! Preston, One fine detail for comparison since you have em all. I think the fenders on the 110’s had a dip/cutout on the side where the mud guards(?) start that the 125m did not have. It may also be a year model thing….I put 84 125m fenders on my 83 110 and ran across this difference when swapping the 125m mud guards over to 110 mud guards. I had to trim the little extra tab off the 110 guards to fit the 125m fenders. They also don’t seem to fit the corner contour 100% but very close. Like I said, some fine details I noticed when trying to interchange parts and pieces.

    I've been looking for a 200 or 250es here in the UK for a while, but stumbled upon a 125m locally for the right price
    It's a non-runner and I have zero mechanical knowledge, but this will be my learning tool and introduction to how these things work, from what I've read and seen, these seem like a good intro to learn
    The inside of my tank is slightly surface rusted, so I'm going to clean that and the carb out and see what happens!
    For some reason the thumb throttle is also backwards, it moves lots if you pull it towards you, but not if you push it with your thumb - strange
    The 4 down gearing caught me off-guard too. Took me a good half hour wondering why it wouldn't roll. Had to put a battery on it to figure it out when the light turned green haha

    Wow, just found your channel. This is the first vid of yours I've seen, and enjoyed the information quite a bit. I've just started looking into 3 wheelers for something to play around with in the neighborhood. My needs are 4stroke, elec start, reverse and small in size as space in my garage is tight. I've found a couple 125s in my area but thinking a 200 might be a little more accommodating as I'm 6'2 and would probably look absolutely ridiculous on a 125. Thanks for putting out the content. Now to go watch more of your content.

    • @ThisOldTrike
      @ThisOldTrike  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man! Thanks for finding me!! I'm glad you liked what you saw. Yeah, 6'2" on a 125M is probably a little small. Electric start 200cc is going to push you to a 200E, 200M, 200ES... but to get reverse you're only left with the 200ES. And at that point a 250SX isn't much bigger and will give you rear suspension. Anyway, lots of possibilities. Just watch a few more videos and you'll get everything figured out!

      I have an 84 TRX 200 that I'll be featuring in an upcoming video. That was Honda's first fourwheeler. My dad had one new and it was what I grew up on. So it's kind of a sentimental thing for me with regard to that one. I had an 87 TRX 250 about 5 years ago. Nice machines. And I had 3 Blue TRX 350D's at one point... they're tanks.... but not nimble enough for me. I was made an offer I couldn't refuse and they all went to a new home in Alabama.

The 4x4 I had intended up putting a snorkel on it mudded it for awhile wish I knew what I had back then lol. Good times tho. We didn't have one but the neighbor down the road had one we had three wheelers. Then the four tracks line up cam out an was great too.

    Do you think that it would be possible to put a 125m motor and transmission into a 1984 atc110? I blew my 110 up and found a 125m on craigslist that i wanted to use as a parts bike and thought it would be cool to have electric start

    • @ThisOldTrike
      @ThisOldTrike  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      An 84/85 125M motor should bolt up. The battery, if you're setting up the electric start, will be an issue because the exhaust for the M stays outside the frame to allow for the battery to sit inside the frame. The 110 exhaust goes out the center of the frame.
