There's another option to make the "TRUE" or "FALSE" invisible. While the suggestion to make the font color white will work in general, if someone highlights the cells in a color (such as red or gray), then the white font would show up. Instead, go into "Format Cells..." and change the format from "General" to "Custom" with the custom format being 3 semi-colons ;;; The cell will still have the TRUE or FALSE value, but the text will be invisible regardless of font color or highlight color. P.S. I always enjoy Leila's videos on Excel
@@kuntito Leila discusses this in her video th-cam.com/video/tGY70sdpaLc/w-d-xo.html Quick summary. Custom format for positive, negative, zero numbers and text are separated by semi-colons. If you don't give it a format (before each semi-colon) that means do not display anything. Text is the format after the 3rd semi-colon.
yes, this a LOT of problem. I want to use table on Onenote, but when is big table it's unusable because you can't copy and paste. At the same time, Excel doesn't allow you to checklist, so it's like: Microsoft are you stupid? You want us to use your tools but you won't let us.... . Google Sheets does have this option but the problem is that it doesn't have the zoom option when clicking, so it's also frustrating. I still wonder how it is possible that Google and Microsoft do not take these things into account. Be patient and we will find it! If someone reads this and finds it, please reply.
There is other videos where people created a Macro to create all the checkboxes for you that are already dynamic! I created 1189 checkboxes in just 10 seconds!! ;)
Had a dauting task of updating a conditional formatting heavy checklist created by a former colleague. I've been taking online excel classes thinking it will eventually get to what I need to know to edit the checklist but I lost patience as I really needed a fix sooner than later. By watching this video once, I have a better understanding of the functionality of checkboxes and conditional formatting that I was able to figure out the fixes I needed. Thank you so much for your videos!!!
I am using only check box Formatting . I never used filter option to see the balance tasks. I used to see balance manually. That filter option is saving lot of time to see the balance tasks. Thank you so much for your wonderful and complete automation suggestion. It is saving a lot of time for me.
This is a pain compared to Google, I've been using Google for 2 years now back to excel and this checkbox is soooo annoying on excel and its not even dynamic
Can you show how to put a check mark in a cell and it places today's date of action in the very next cell? Where would today's date be placed within the sheet for the dynamic affect? Your videos are awesome, I use them to train my staff all the time. You're a great trainer. Good voice and steady flow of instruction so its not to fast or too slow.
Thank you for explaining! I was had been looking for this for a while now. Seeing you work with these non dynamic functies though makes me realise this is way too trivial for larger size documents....
Probably the best workaround w/out getting into VBA. (Frustrating Excel doesn't offer in cell checkboxes - even Smartsheet has it). With some VBA and using unicode ballot-box characters, there's a way to make in-cell checkboxes that toggle on the double click event. VBA just looks at the left most character of the target cell, and if it is ☐, changes it to ☑. Or vice versa. Only replaces the left character so it leaves the labels unchanged. That way the checkboxes can be copy/pasted and moved around like normal cells. Disadvantage is that users have to change their macro security to allow for running VBA.
Thank You Leila! One suggestion for this lesson. Make a reference back to the formatting cells tutorial. Particularly the custom formatting. Might be better for viewers that have something other than a white background. Keep up the amazing work and best wishes!!
I am a long-time viewer and I always enjoy Leila's videos on Excel! I learned a lot from her! Jus could you indicate somewhere on the screen which version of MsOffice you are using, please?. Sometimes I am confused with your old or new videos. Thank you for your great job and please do not stop!
you've made me super excited today. really loved the checkboxes in excel. thank you so much, Leila really love your videos they're like presents for me 👍👍
I think my decision to switch from Microsoft office to Google workspace is completely right now. Google sheets can do this much better than Excel with less hassle.
I feel as if I could have really used this knowledge 4 or 5 years ago, but I found some other way to do what I needed. This would have been the more elegant design, however.
Question: Is there no way to have like an infinite column of checkboxes without doing it manually? I would like to use it for a conditional formatting feature but it wouldn't be worth it if I had to put the checkbox there myself compared to my current method.

Hi @Leila the checkbox function - is it dependent on Windows 10 vs 11 with the same Office 365?

Thanks, but how do the 3 semi-colons make the text invisible? @Robert Thompson

That is a LOT of work for something so simple as a checkbox. Very surprised MS hasn't added this as a design feature yet.

I'm still wondering how come MS hasn't implemented a feature like this by this time. Checkboxes in MS Excel are not simple to create and handle.
no it isnt and there are many alternatives for faster this is to customize stuff.

I was actually wondering the same thing. I will manually be checking the boxes but i need a way to automatically uncheck all the boxes
@@SimpleAbundance you can change all the “TRUE” values to “FALSE” and it will uncheck all the boxes at once.
