      Hi. I hate seeing birds in tiny cages with wire floors. They deserve so much more. I try to provide interest and an environment where they can exhibit natural behaviour.

    I really love your setup for them. They have so much enrichment and it looks so clean. I have 5 quails (1 male and 4 females) and I adore them. I love when my male crows, I’m closest with him but I love my females too.

    It is a sweet video and you obviously care for the quails a great deal giving them names and cleaning their cages daily. I've only seen quail in the wild (I hike the California trails) and they are so beautiful to watch running and landing from flying. It does sadden me to see quail or any birds in cages though, but you are keeping them safe from predators and even from themselves. They look happy and healthy. Sweet video.

      Hi. The more space the better I think. These coturnix quail wouldn’t survive long outside. Everything would have them, from rats and cats to dogs, foxes and larger birds. I aim to provide as stimulating environment as possible.

    thank you. nice to know Curly is happier. Does this difference in cage size seem to bother the older quail? mainly appetite or territory.

    • @mygardenanddinosaurs
      @mygardenanddinosaurs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My intention was to have the cage as a single habitat for all the quail but boys don't always co-exist well together so I had to half it. That said, they are still very happy. I think enrichment is the key. Give them lots of interest.

      thank you. they do seem chirpy and happy. very active guys and girls. I did not realize how talkative they are. I suppose because they are mainly ground dwellers and have to communicate through the grasses. thank you for sharing and have a blessed day. @@mygardenanddinosaurs

    Oooo, you’re tempting me, Mags! They’re very sweet. Do you get many eggs?

    • @mygardenanddinosaurs
      @mygardenanddinosaurs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Fiona. Boy do you get eggs. They can and do lay more than one egg per day. Not always but fairly frequently. I have eggs coming out my ears so to speak. They are cute little potatoes but aren’t as domesticated as chickens so def have a wild streak. They are renowned for seemingly random acts of violence against one another. Mine have pretty much lived in harmony with a couple of exceptions. Good news is that they are pretty hardy and seem to recover from quite nasty pecking injuries really well. All the best. Mags

    Probably a daft question, but what happens if they eat the hemp bedding, is it safe?

    • @mygardenanddinosaurs
      @mygardenanddinosaurs  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s not daft really. I have never had a quail eat the bedding. I’m sure little bits might be consumed if stuck to food but nothing significant.

  • @pastaislovepastaislife
    @pastaislovepastaislife 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    how do you keep the cage sooooo clean? Haha I heard they are messy and poops everywhere. I wonder if they could be trained like hamsters and rabbits to only poo on specific places?

    • @mygardenanddinosaurs
      @mygardenanddinosaurs  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They are little poo monsters. I use a hemp bedding called aubichick. It really dries out poos and they disintegrate. It means the quail don’t suffer with poo balls on their toes. I skim the surface most days and replace as needed but the aubichick really makes it easier and much less smelly. I wish you could toilet train them though 🥴

    is 50 litres big enough or do you reckon 100 litre container is better ( both can fit all the things in your video )

    • @mygardenanddinosaurs

      I would say, the bigger, the better. Give them as much room as you can, for their overall wellbeing. Thanks for watching. Mags

    I'm new to raising quail. What is the litter called your using?

    • @mygardenanddinosaurs
      @mygardenanddinosaurs  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there. I use a hemp bedding. The brand is Aubichick but any hemp horse bedding would also do. It is dust free and absorbs the moisture out of poops so they just disintegrate so you don't get poo balls on the quail's feet.
