Ben I really appreciate your enthusiasm about making these marquee numbers. Thanks for all the work and time you are putting into your channel. I hope it all pays off when you get a ton of sales off Etsy for your plans. I'm glad you buy your lights instead of wiring them yourself, it is just easier and faster to buy them and plug them in.
Hi thank you very much for your comment, It is a lot of work but I love to make and figure out things. So it has been a fun challenge! And yes the Etsy store and TH-cam channel have been growing amazingly, which is great! It just shows that a lot of people were interested in the same things and there isn't a lot of other info online. I am very grateful for the views, comments and plan purchases that I have received. And yes I agree 100% the lights have been way easier just to buy and place in! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment👍
Thank you so much for all of your videos. I have started my on rental company. I am excited to make my own items. I get request for the large cakes people come out of any ideas for that. You are awesome please keep doing what you're doing. It helps the little guys like myself just starting out. Thank you and GOD BLESS YOU!
Hi, thank you so much for watching and commenting. I have never built those cakes. But if I were to I would probably make is similar to the Plinth video I have on my channel. I would make three separate stacks of cake tops using plywood as my circle top and bottom. Then 1 x 4 solid wood as my supports between the plywood. And just make three starting with a large base and then medium one that stands on top of it then finally a top. Then probably have a foam board top for the top to come out of, for safety. Yeah it would probably look like the Plinth video I have up just with a hole in the center and larger. Good Luck!
Ben, have you ever looked into heat forming plywood? Basically get the timber warm/hot then slowly bend into shape to form the rounds of things like 8’s and B’s etc leave it strapped for a few hours then slowly release the straps and the timber should hold its shape at least close enough to pin it to the back. Just an idea may be worth a trial run some time 👍
Hi, Yes I used to use regular plywood. Then I switched for a couple of dollars more to sanded plywood for almost everything and It just makes everything easier and looks better.👍
Thank you so much for all your videos! I love that you are able to help us small business owners diy some of the pricey items and have them look great! Keep up the amazing job -
Hi, I just ordered some material I am going to try soon. I am going to make a curved letter and see how it works. Hopefully I will have the video up next week.
Hi, I have two videos that touch on the subject here is this one th-cam.com/video/HQxca0VqOAs/w-d-xo.html and I believe this one at the seven minute mark discuss the christmas light option th-cam.com/video/lvK22KldVRY/w-d-xo.html Good luck!
Thanks for the video and all the info! I bought the template for the 2 on Etsy. I’m wondering though, how wide should I cut the side if I want to create an overhang in the back instead of having it flush? I’m thinking so I can add a clamp to it for balloons. Thank you!
Hi, thank you for the support. If you want to make a over hang in the back. I would not make it too big, maybe not over an inch or so. The reason is when nailing the inside sections of the numbers. It can become difficult when placing the nail gun from the back to nail the inside. If you have a big over hang the nail gun will have trouble fitting and being able to shoot the nail through the wood vertically. For balloons what we do is just add command hooks to the back and tie it to the balloons with 260 balloons. It works great, hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.
I’m making the number 8 right now and man is it hard I thought it was just me but when you said it at 3:54 I was like geese at least I’m not the only one haha 😂 thanks for your videos ! Very helpful ! 🙏🏻
Hi, it depends on which lights I use. I have used a couple of different one just to try out and they are different openings. I have this video and I discuss the different sizes of lights in the middle of the video th-cam.com/video/lvK22KldVRY/w-d-xo.html
Hi, I have built some 4 ft letters and 1/2 inch worked great. Now for 5 ft I do not know, that is tall. I try my best to stay away from 3/4 because it is so dang heavy transporting on and off. So if I can get away with 1/2 inch, I would but that isn't always the case.
Thank you very much. My wife and sister stopped renting a while back. I just create projects for the TH-cam channel. I definitely love the look of it and I am sure it would rent! Thanks for watching!
Hi, thanks for watching. Really just a circular saw and jig saw. But you can get away with just using a jig saw. And yes just plywood. I am planning to do a video soon making the number 2 soon.
Hi, this video goes more in to detail about building them easier and in description it has a link to a website that discusses the materials at the bottom of this video th-cam.com/video/lvK22KldVRY/w-d-xo.html
Hi thanks for watching. I use just plain caulking. Do not use silicone caulking as that is not paintable. As long as the caulking is paintable you should be good!
Hi thanks for watching. The numbers all stand by themselves on flat ground. Except the ring. I want to eventually make a stand for it so I can add some letters and such.
Hey I’m doing marquee numbers for an events vendor and I’ve had great success. But I’m doing #4 and I can’t make it stand up 😢😢😢😢 I’m like having a lot of trouble. Could you give me a tip to help the #4 standup as it falls over on the belly side.
Hi, no not 1.5 inch. Half of 1 inch (1/2) or (.5) inch. I believe .5 inch is 1.27 cm but I am not great at conversion, just looked it up. Sorry, hope this helps. I wish our measurement systems were the same, it would make things easier
How much would you charge per number if you would make these for someone? Just the labor part of it, not l or and materials. I have to make numbers 2-9. Thanks!
That is a difficult answer because a lot depends on your setup, your time is worth and how long it takes you. If you have a full workshop it will be way easier than just a circular saw, some people are ok working for $10 an hour other want $30 an hour? Some numbers are easier than others as well. The number "8" is a pain, lol. The number "1" is easy. Some people can build a number in 2 hours others it will take a whole day for a number. So you can see it really is specific to your situation and how much you are comfortable making while not overpricing the job? Sorry I could not of been more help and good luck!
@@MakerDecor i totally agree with all you said. I have a huge CNC machine so I cut out 40” tall numbers in 3 minutes. The hard and time consuming part are the edges and angles 📐
Hi thanks for watching. I do not, I made these for events a while back to rent out. I never sold them. I have been just trying to find a easier way to make them for a while. So, that's why there are different variations.

I start to make. Party decorations. Whit. PvC panel. 1/2 " and 1/4" work great
hmm, I might have to look into it. Thanks
The TIN is Genius !!!
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Thank you for giving your input on the different options. Makes for deciding easier.
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for taking the time giving us tips. You are the best!
Thanks for watching!
Ben am so happy I found your page! It’s helping a lot. What measurements do u draw on the wood before cutting out in cm etc?

Hmm. I have never thought about that. I would need to do some more research on it. Thanks for the suggestion!
Yes, sanded ply is best!!
Hi, Yes I used to use regular plywood. Then I switched for a couple of dollars more to sanded plywood for almost everything and It just makes everything easier and looks better.👍
Hello,
Thank you for the video!! It’s very helpful and inspiring. How do you get the roofing tin to curve around the marquee letter/number?
Thank you
Hi, thank you I have a video on the build here is the link. th-cam.com/video/gMi3boqX99s/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much for all your videos! I love that you are able to help us small business owners diy some of the pricey items and have them look great! Keep up the amazing job -
Thank you so much, I appreciate your comment!
Can you do a number or letter with flexible plywood? Like an 8 or a 6 making the curves?
Or with the roofing Tin, but making them curved instead of block
Hi, I just ordered some material I am going to try soon. I am going to make a curved letter and see how it works. Hopefully I will have the video up next week.
Can you do a video on lights please

How do you measure the angle at the top of the 1, maybe you can do a video on just how to find angles
I am working on a video for that topic. Hopefully will be out end of January, thank you.

Hi, thanks for watching and yes the numbers 8,6,9 are a pain, lol. Good luck and thanks for commenting!👍
Hello :)
What’s the measurement for the circle to make the holes? For those lights you are using in the video
Hi, it depends on which lights I use. I have used a couple of different one just to try out and they are different openings. I have this video and I discuss the different sizes of lights in the middle of the video th-cam.com/video/lvK22KldVRY/w-d-xo.html
1/2" sanded plywood is a great material when your letters are 3 feet tall but for 4 and 5 foot tall letters would you recommend going to 3/4?
Hi, I have built some 4 ft letters and 1/2 inch worked great. Now for 5 ft I do not know, that is tall. I try my best to stay away from 3/4 because it is so dang heavy transporting on and off. So if I can get away with 1/2 inch, I would but that isn't always the case.

Wow I love that diamond ring marquee😍 do you have many rental requests for that?
Thank you very much. My wife and sister stopped renting a while back. I just create projects for the TH-cam channel. I definitely love the look of it and I am sure it would rent! Thanks for watching!
So you used only plywood for the numbers backing and siding? And what tools do I need to cut the plywood? Thank you for the help.
Hi, thanks for watching. Really just a circular saw and jig saw. But you can get away with just using a jig saw. And yes just plywood. I am planning to do a video soon making the number 2 soon.
Thank you so much for the video! With the lights how do you remove excess lights?
Hi thanks for watching. For the excess lights I just take out the light bulbs and tuck the extra cord in the back out of the way.
Hi, where can i find the marquee plan for number 8, 4ft tall?
Do you have templates for the flat marquees? I don't have much storage space so I really want to see the flat face ones
Hi, I do have the templates on our Etsy store. But I do not have an example of them. Sorry
You ever do in sheet metal?
Hi, yes I have. Here is the video th-cam.com/video/gMi3boqX99s/w-d-xo.html
great video
Do you have a list of all materials ?
Hi, this video goes more in to detail about building them easier and in description it has a link to a website that discusses the materials at the bottom of this video th-cam.com/video/lvK22KldVRY/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for this info!!! I’ll definitely be checking out your etsy shop to support!
Hi thanks for watching and the support!
Where can I get the stand so I can stack them?
Hi, I am not sure. I believe most are custom made out of welding metal for stability.
Cheers bro ....from ur new subscriber ❤️
Awesome, thank you very much. Appreciate the sub!

What type of caulking you use?
Hi thanks for watching. I use just plain caulking. Do not use silicone caulking as that is not paintable. As long as the caulking is paintable you should be good!
How do you keep the letters from falling over? Do you build a stand?
Hi thanks for watching. The numbers all stand by themselves on flat ground. Except the ring. I want to eventually make a stand for it so I can add some letters and such.

hi! when you say half inch, do you mean 1.5 inch (4cm)?
Hi, no not 1.5 inch. Half of 1 inch (1/2) or (.5) inch. I believe .5 inch is 1.27 cm but I am not great at conversion, just looked it up. Sorry, hope this helps. I wish our measurement systems were the same, it would make things easier
Have you made a barbie box?
Hi thanks for watching. I have not made a Barbie box yet, but definitely on my to-do list!
