I did improve the speed of my AI BOX (not the one in the video specifically) by using a small fan.. worked wonders as the usual temps were 85 to 90ºc and were lowered to 30/40ºc.. it lags a lot less now.
I like this user interface the best of all the AI boxes I've seen so far. The night mode is particularly interesting, as the day mode, which is standard on all other AI boxes, is too bright for night driving. Thank you for the review!
Thank you very much for this video. I have watched several of your videos and also subscribed. There are so many options for Car Play. What would you say would be the best option for me. Here is my list of priorities to consider. 1. Best option for Smooth and fast Wireless car Play 2. Ability to watch Netflix and also download other video apps. (No games needed) 3. Best video quality and least lag for playback. For an Audi S7
I bought this one thanks to you! The discount coupon code worked great. I'm loving it till now, really smooth and fast on apps. Really like the amount of options the hardware brings over the raw perfomance of the rocket. I do think it gets really hot I'm probably gonna try to cool it with some thermal paste or pads to see if I can get even better results. It works in south america btw. Thanks a lot Antony, I really appreciate your content!
So basically dual WiFi. Some do support this. Where you’re connected to hotspot and wireless CP and AA still works alongside internet driven Android apps
Thanks Anthony for the review. I have had a bit of a tough luck with this device. Its not the device’s fault, but my own. It was working fine until I downloaded and installed a third party launcher like FCC Car Launcher, and since then the device is in a boot loop. Apparently the in-house launcher has something connected to the booting sequence and hence I am stuck. I have got the firmware flashing tools from the manufacturer but I am still unable to fix it. Not asking for any help here, but just in case you happen to find a way to fix this, please let me know. Currently, I am back to my previous device.
Oh wow. That makes me a bit hesitant to try another launcher on these boxes. I tried carwebguru once and it was ok but didn’t try it long enough for stability
@@CarPlayLife carwebguru is working quite well on my Picasou 2 which I have gone back to since the GT6 Pro ran into the above mentioned problem. Anyway, thanks!
Is this still the one you would buy (or go for Exploter ApplePie Rocket) if money was no issue for streaming / playing video content from a flash drive with least lag? Which one do you use yourself?
In more modern cars you can expect less lag that what I demo here. I’ll be doing a modern car update to show the lag difference. You can see a sneak peek of this in my most recent Polo 2024 video where I use the CarlinKit UHD. Bang for buck the Linkifun is great! For ultimate power the Rocket is better but if you’re just using one main app and dreaming video then the Linkifun or the CarlinKit UHD 6225 edition will do just as well. I’ve been using the UHD 660 myself but CarlinKit just supplied me a 6225 version, so expect a video on that on the channel in a couple of weeks.
Thanks for such a detailed reply! I do have a new car and it sounds like I should go with Carlinkit UHD if I just want to play movies from a usb drive. Do you still use yours as a primary system on day to day basis (nav, music, etc) or is there still too much ui friction? So you just use native CarPlay /Car Ui and only use it when you need to watch something. I thought you’d be using Rocket as your daily driver since it’s a next gen device.
Before my new car I didn’t really have a need for an AI Box. I’m not in the car long enough to make it worth while. But I can see the appeal when charging an EV for example. So I’ll be going back through them for my own use soon. I’ve only tried the UHD and they was ok. I’ll dive back into the Rocket to see how that fairs. I’m not a fan of its native UI though. It is a beast in performance over all the others out there. So if I can fix its UI I’ll be using the Rocket for sure.
Great review. Does it support calling directly without connecting to a phone? Does it support Google voice commands directly without being connected to a phone?
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻☺️ It gives the impression that you can call from it but it didn’t allow me to from the built in apps. Calling app just opens up the calling screen for when a phone needs to be connected over BT. As for Google voice this should work as long as a data sim is installed and supplying the adapter internet without any WiFi attached to it.
Hey, what is now the best and fast Box now? What would you buy in this time. I have a Alpine ILX 905 and have Apple Carplay & Android Play & 2 HDMI ports. Thanks
Best and fast doesn’t necessarily come in one package. Fast th-cam.com/video/I7X-qJr0Vuc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PIMyU2rm6CBbHmwD Best, I’ll save for a future video 😉
After the amount I’ve used over the years, everything starts to blur as to which one is best in different uses. So it needs time to sit down and use them enough again to rank what is best. Add that everyone uses them differently and it all starts to get complex. I have a data sheet that tells me benchmarks and launch times of apps in each ai box tested. Now that is a rough way to learn how fast each are, but in my experience, the fastest doesn’t mean the best for, say video streaming, of hdmi playback etc. the variables are huge and I can’t really answer this question as accurately as I’d like to individually, unless you just want to know what’s the fastest. That’s easy the rocket ;)
Yes you can side load onto these ai boxes. As for best sync. That is for an entirely new video sometime soon. I can’t remember all the adapters sync performance to know the best one off the top of my head. I’d have to revisit each one again and that’s going to take AGES!! From vague memory, it doesn’t need to be a super performing adapter. It just needs the right software and tweaks to the chipset/hardware to be able to do it right
@@CarPlayLife I've been combing through your videos for the past few days. I do really like your structure. Very consistent. But yes there is so many. I totally get that huge Android pan here. But Apple has always killed it in the software department with low performing hardware in the beginning and android phone makers had amazing hardware but the software side was mediocre, in return sucky performance.
Sadly not. It’s just from their store online. They have been super responsive and very helpful so I’d like to thing their after sales and support should hopefully match that 🤞🏻
Hey Anthony, maybe you can help me. I'm looking for an Android AI box that doesn't tell the CarPlay interface when navigation is active or has an option to prevent this. Background: I have a virtual cockpit in my car that shows me the map of the car's internal navigation system on a large scale. However, as soon as CarPlay detects that navigation is active on the external device (like every AI Box I tested so far), a huge compass is shown on the virtual cockpit. However, I would like to continue to see the map of the internal navigation system on my cockpit.
Wow that’s quite a niche question and scenario. I honestly don’t really know. What’s the car brand model and year? Maybe one day I can try this out at some dealers.
@@CarPlayLife It's an 2019 Audi Q3. It seems there is no possible way to activate "dual navigation" via OBD coding. So my last hope is to find an AI Box, which doesn't tell the car, if navigation from Waze or Google maps is running.
So even running GMaps on the ai box itself tells the car nav is running? What about nav within CP or AA from the AI box, does that still tell the audio system it’s running nav?
My car only has wired/witeless carplay, no android auto. If i were to get this it would allow me to have android auto or does my car have to already have that native? Is this the best adapter to acbieve this?
Yes, that should work. But I’ve not been able to test this on a CarPlay only car system. But it should work as you described. It’s one of the better ways to do it. The other way is a CarlinKit 4.0 adapter. But this is just an AA adapter no android OS apps etc. What car brand, model and year are you trying this out on?
@@CarPlayLife mini cooper se 2023. When you say carlinkit is just an adapter with no apps what would it's function be then? So this linkifun would be the better option then?
The adapter would just offer wireless android auto or wireless apple carplay. 5.0 will not convert where as the 4.0 would. The linkifun works great for AAuto but costs more, however it would also open doors for running apps like video streaming apps TH-cam and Netflix.

Did you have the Rocket and didn't like it? I am considering either going with this one or the Rocket.
What we need as a ai box, when we enter carplay or android auto box box should work as a carplay or android auto box that doesnt need wifi sharing.

Is it possible to use touch functionality when using HDMI input? For example, when connecting a PC, is touch input available?
