Here's a look inside a 1970's Philips radio cassette. It didn't need a massive amount of work on the face of it, but the design and build quality resulted in it becoming a somewhat frustrating and not very enjoyable job.

WOW what a lovely little machine-fully functional tape deck with Cue/review full auto stop,pause and tape counter-as well as a quartz clock.
I remember seeing these in Boots and Currys,in the early 80s-I bought a similar model,Philips,but without the clock-,about this time,lovely little radio/cassette-sold it to a work colleague,a little time later,because they liked it !!
Next went in for a sharp GF 8080 Stereo-another fantastic radio/cassette with co-axial speaker system and APSS on the tape Deck-find the next song,or go back to the start of the previous song on a cassette !!!
Changing the subject,love your collection of boomboxes on the shelves,towards the end of the video-looking forward to seeing these,and you repairing and restoring them !!

Yes - this was a nice time for radio cassettes - lots of features - although this started to come at the expense of build quality in some cases. Those quartz clocks are great, but they have a tendency to pack up due to the complicated zebra connections. I've wrestled with them now and again, with greater or lesser success!
The GF-8080 is one of my favourites. Very heavy, beautifully put together and sounds great for it's size. I refurbish one of these about once a month, and I featured one on my channel last year - here's the link:

A few years after I got the GF 8080 I went in for a sharp VZ2500-a fully portable(but very heavy)boombox,with a built in vertical Turntable,which could play both sides of a record without turning it over-as well as a 4 band radio and Dolby Cassette Deck with APSS !!
Ahh yes one of those five minute jobs that go on and on well done your persistence has paid off in the end .
Haha yes - it's always the 'quick' jobs that take the longest!
JVC 9475 service/repair since you are asking, do you have a list?
The list is as long as my arm, unfortunately! However, I have 2 9475s that need looking at, and I've been meaning to give them a go, so watch this space - just a few vids in the pipeline coming up first.
Nice restoration video. I’m curious as to the age of this unit. My guess is 1978/79.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I'm honestly not sure of the date. Radio Museum dates the model to 1980, but I guess there might be a couple of production years - but yes - somewhere around there. Nearly 45 years old already!
Can i send you my Sharp GF9090 to fix 😂 it all works well, except the tape deck, chews up tapes, stops when play is pressed after a few seconds! Fwd and Rew/ search work find, Think it needs new belts and a good clean up on the mechanism
Hi, and thanks for watching.Sounds like you've got your hands full there! All 3 belts are likely to need a change, and possible renewing idler tyres and maybe even the pinch roller. I suspect the capstan bush as well - these turn to goo, and prevent drive to the take-up reel. Consequently, the tape is pulled through but spat out, and the auto-stop will kick in as it thinks the tape has finished. I'll be working on more GFs soon - but in the meantime, you might want to check this one out. Similar issues to your 9191.

I've got one, but unfortunately play doesn't work anymore, rwind and ff work fine, so does raido, clock and the built in light sensors, I'm hoping it's not the belt because going by what I've seen here it will be a very tiring unfun job
I took a look at it just now and I think it's the gear that holds and moves the play spindle that's causing the problem, play works for a second then stops, I press pause and then unpause it and spins again for only one sec then stops, pinch roller is fine and keeps going though
It might be worth looking at it. Mine had fought me all the way, and the edited video is missing a lot of the grief! On a fresh day, I'm sure it wouldn't be so onerous! It might be a slipping clutch - I had that on one of these before. Worth a look though in case the mech just needs a clean from old dry grease, etc
@@retro_restosseems there's a couple of teeth missing in the orange cog just below the pinch roller, and there's no way I've a replacement or can do anything for this anytime soon :(
