Great Artists of the World 2011 Lea Salonga's Valentine Concert with the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra held at Queen Sirikit Convention Center Bangkok, Thailand
First of all, Lea has one of the most beautiful vocal tones a woman can ever wish for. Second, she's not straining. The power's from her diaphragm strength. If you look at her standing posture and the positioning of her jaw, everything was in the right places to deliver this song, showing us how much she KNOWS her stuff. You'd know that if you were a vocalist. Third, this is a musical number, it takes personal INTERPRETATION of the song to deliver it in its full context and Lea nailed it.
I know your comment is 6 yrs old, but I agree with it strenuously. I am a vocal coach and singer for decades in Chicago. From her debut in Miss S to this very day she is a beautifully trained singer. Every note is supported and she never runs short of breath. A beautiful thing it is. I love the video of her reunion with her leading man Simon Bowman. I saw the play 7 times between New York and Chicago. I have also watched her audition video a zillion times and always marvel at the look on Boubil's face when he realizes that they had found, at long last, their perfect Kym.
In the midst of online bashers, fake news, trolls, and political turmoil, it's refreshing to hear an ethereal voice like Lea's. It somehow gives us hope.
Before, I was a 100% Barbra Streisand fan when it came to this song, but now I find myself splitting it up 50/50 between her and Lea. The amount of emotion that she puts into this song is amazing and inspirational.
As for me, I still prefer Elaine Paige’s performance (although I guess that perhaps the version in Cats and the one that Lea is singing in this video are different), but I agree that this is awesome.
When this show opened in NY I was there opening night. Betty Buckley played Grizzabella and was magnificent. I saw the show several more times in its multi-year run; including seeing Lea Salonga playing the part in London's West End (their Broadway). I saw many play the part including greats like Elaine Paige but until Lea Salonga I didn't think anyone would ever meet Betty Buckley as she would thro herself into the part so deeply. Then, hearing Lea Salonga, the part came to life again for me.
@@zilam98 I am 99% sure that Lea never played Grizabella in the West End - only in the Philippines. But Lea did sing Memory with Il Divo on tour in 2014.
Midnight Not a sound from the pavement Has the moon lost her memory She is smiling alone In the lamplight The withered leaves collect at my feet And the wind begins to moan Memory All alone in the moonlight I can smile happy your days (I can dream of the old days) Life was beautiful then I remember the time I knew what happiness was Let the memory live again Every street lamp seems to beat A fatalistic warning Someone mutters and the street lamp gutters And soon it will be morning Daylight I must wait for the sunrise I must think of a new life And I mustn't give in When the dawn comes Tonight will be a memory too And a new day will begin Burnt out ends of smoky days The still cold smell of morning A street lamp dies, another night is over Another day is dawning Touch me, It is so easy to leave me All alone with the memory Of my days in the sun If you touch me, You'll understand what happiness is Look, a new day has begun
Lea Salonga is an archangel on earth. Surfing through this parade of recordings is a tidal wave of technical and artistic brilliance. In these new renditions she out sings Elaine Page, Judy Garland, Judy Kuhn, (Pocahontas) and all others with an ease beyond the absurd. Looking for the greatest female singer ever? Its Lea Salonga first, last and forever.
I always love, when she sings in concert, she gets into character, especially if she's performed that character on stage. She IS Eponine, she IS Kim, and here, she IS Grizzabella.
Isa to sa paborito kong version ng memory.kasi yung pinakagusto ko eh yung kay Dulce at Regine Velasquez pareho kasing powerful and soulful.Ngayon tatlo na ang favorite ko
She is really a legend! She sings beautifully n one can feel the emotion in the songs she sings Just love listening to her . i saw 4 of her shows in Broadway
I love elaine page's performance as grizabella, but lea salonga is easily my favorite actress, regardless of her role I havent seen sarah brightman in this role (if you mean that she has been, I dont even know), but I dont like sarah brightman in general, so I wouldnt go into a performance of hers with high hopes anyway
Absolutely stunning! Such beautiful strong tones in your voice Lea, such clear annunciation of the lyrics as well. Truly this has to be one of not the best performance ever of Memory!
Lea has that magical element that she transforms herself into the character that sings "Memory" - she fully inhabit the character on the stage as she sings. Amazing..
Kim Grizabella Eponine Out of the many talented artists who may have portrayed these roles, only Lea does it the best with the perfect pitch, not a single note out of tune, with that crystal clarity of a voice.
Somewhere in heaven, there must be an angel wondering, "Who stole my voice?".
Scott Ferris i like this 😂
This comment makes my heart happy
What more would you expect from the woman who provided us with the singing voices for TWO Disney Princesses?
@@Isildun9 ❤❤
I truly believe God gave Lea that gift......there is no stealing in Heaven.

She's amazing because she gets in the Character no matter when and where she's singing she feels it.
Watch the original Barbara Streisand ...❤
Hands down the most exquisite female cover of Memory I have ever heard!
She is queen.. Who else got goosebumps at the "touch me its so easy to leave me" part?
When Lea belts a high note, there's just this very amazing and natural vibrato that makes the song sound more and more extraordinary.
She has the most magical voice. Definitely my top favorite female singer.
Hi
I ascended to heaven and met god at 3:14 oh my lord i just keep on replaying it
Lea Salonga is the 1st Queen of Broadway. She sings in an angelic singing voice and she is the most famous singer of all the Philippines.
Her voice rings like a bell; so clear and beautiful.
That's resonance. :)
@@Riri-oj1zs nah, that's her gorgeous vibrato :)
Her voice is like a medicine. It cures.

Elaine Paige, Barbara Streisand sang Memory. I find Lea Salonga's version the most magical, crystal clear and too angelic.
No

Well i wouldn’t say that she’s at the level of those you’ve mentioned
I know they say nobody's perfect, but she makes it look like if it were wrong.
Hi
Well, she has perfect pitch. :)
@@Riri-oj1zs but having perfect pitch doesnt make you a perfect singer
She did that for herself and it's incredible
If Heaven is full of voices like hers, I'm ready to go, now.
❤ Me, not yet, I still want to enjoy her beautiful voice.❤
Wow. The spectrum of facial expressions--anguish, sadness, hope, joy... on her face is incredible (a performance in itself)--as is her voice--
She's astonishing
world-class Filipina singer =)
true parekoy
Universal bro
This is how I imagine an Angel would sound like 😂
What I love about Leah that she belts in a mixture of chest and head voice. It never sounds shouty which many singers do.
omg how did i not know that existed!!!!!?????
Watching in 2017. This girls voice is perfection!
A lot of other Filipina and Filipino singers that have not been heard yet in the US. Salonga is ab fab!
Theodore Biele I got to see Lea Salonga live at a fundraising concert. Truly incredible.
Girl? She’s close to 50! She’s amazing - that’s true ❤️‼️
She's sooo amazing. I really want her perform the show in Thailand again.

Midnight
Not a sound from the pavement
Has the moon lost her memory
She is smiling alone
In the lamplight
The withered leaves collect at my feet
And the wind begins to moan
Memory
All alone in the moonlight
I can smile happy your days (I can dream of the old days)
Life was beautiful then
I remember the time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again
Every street lamp seems to beat
A fatalistic warning
Someone mutters and the street lamp gutters
And soon it will be morning
Daylight
I must wait for the sunrise
I must think of a new life
And I mustn't give in
When the dawn comes
Tonight will be a memory too
And a new day will begin
Burnt out ends of smoky days
The still cold smell of morning
A street lamp dies, another night is over
Another day is dawning
Touch me,
It is so easy to leave me
All alone with the memory
Of my days in the sun
If you touch me,
You'll understand what happiness is
Look, a new day has begun

Very good. This is a very difficult song to sing and not everyone can sing it.
A classic, yet clear voice. She has kind of a youthful voice, since she enunciates well.
