Text guide: / odin_mechanic_facts_th... A quick tutorial on how Odin's unique mechanics works, how to pressure Odin and how to avoid Zantetsuken. Hope it helps.
SUPERB explanation... I failed this fight so many times, even after watching a couple of guides. Today, I watched this video and beat him on the first try afterward. This is the best, most thorough and most effective guide on Odin I've seen! I applaud you sir.
Note: I cannot look at the code and it's unlikely anyone will be able to until a PC version comes out. Everything explained here is based on my experimentation and experience fighting Odin solo with every character. The mood gauge I edited in the video is there purely as a visual representation to explain the concept. I do not know the exact numbers involved in the background so I might be a bit off. Nevertheless I feel confident that this is accurate enough to understand Odin's behaviour and avoid triggering Zantetsuken.
Dropping you a like because this is the most comprehensive Odin guide I have seen, and people who might struggle with fighting him need to see this. Most of the info online about this is not helpful. I learned by trial and error to go all in on damaging him in a short amount of time to get him to use Sleipnir's Furor, and that Yuffie's shooting star at range will make Reprisal whiff
got some tips for you if u have the time, watch optinoobs video for the build and strategy for the first 9 battles. as for odin watch solestro's video talking about odin and then play full might odin until u can beat him and or know his moves
What i did is training solo on full might with Cloud only. It helped me a lot getting to know which skills i can block and which one is better to just evade. On general tip for Odin fight, you have to deal a lot of damage on a small time for him not to be bored and summon the "warning" and after the death move. Practice a lot and you will get the hang of it 😊
@@steveozone4910 for my build reraise was not needed. Of course, if you are afraid of losing it at the last round, you can equip it. But, i do not recommend due to 2 reasons: 1 - its expensive (36 MP). 2 - Arise costs 22 MP and ressurect you with full HP whil3 reraise you get like 25%, making it easy for Odin kill you again on 1 or 2 hits. If you pratice enough, not getting hit by Odin and damaging him, Reraise wont be needed
Finally someone who explains what's actually happening when I get slapped around! I finally cheesed him with Yuffie, so me and Odin are friends now. But it's nice to know what the heck was going on. 😅
I managed beat everything and platinum the game but I still think stuff like reprisal is overkill when your basically on a timer to deal high damage to stop instakill unavoidable boss moves.
Nahh, it just means you have to actually think and strategize instead of just brute forcing your way to victory like you can for most of the game's encounters
I had trouble (full might) at first then I found that if you cast poison and deprotect on him, have someone cast a couple of elemental spells (thundera etc) he will go to his debuff phase, even if you take a bunch of hits. He’s actually very easy when you stop trying to dodge him and start just trying to debuff and damage him.
I’m going to try this, I feel like I’ve died by just trying to debuff him and missing out on easy hits Going to respec to have my team mates auto cast elemental
If you’re close to him with handcuffs during the second half of the fight he can interrupt two atb spells with reprisal. You need to have some space between you before you cast to avoid being interrupted
hello, thank you for the amazing guy. I’m working on this right now. I spent hours playing the main game and I got to the side quest where all the summon monsters are level 65 does this apply to that same battle with Odin and the other summon monster you have to fight at the same time or is it different because there’s two monster at once ???
Yes with some additional mechanics. If you focus on attacking Odin in that fight he will eventually vanish for a bit and give you some time to deal with Alexander.
One simple trick explain here save me in the battle without fail. First my party os Yuffie, barret and cloud. Use Yuffie as main and evade, debuff and some more evade. If he ever uses the Gallahorn Move… go berserk on ATB abilities. Unload everything you got in those 3-5 second. Like explained, it reset his interest in the battle and you can continue to hit from afar, evade and debuff.
I really don’t know what I’m doing wrong. You’re explanation got me to phase 3 easy sometimes I don’t even have to cast defaith or any other status effect but once he does that temporal imprisonment I cancel it with limit attack and immediately after he does zantetsuken. No warning or anything just immediate death. All I can do is watch as my 4 minute attempt get shoved right up my arse.
Ok well I done it the next try after posting this. I didn’t wanna waste revival earrings but I did. He done the same thing though I summoned pheonix just before he done it and revival earrings got me up and pheonix kept me going with health. That was stressful
I bruto forced it through sheer willpower lmao. I did not know about the handcuff thing so thought it was a timing thing. So i built the atb from range and only used braver right after he used a skill
Is this about a later challenge in the simulator? I still haven't gotten to the point where I can take on the more challenging battles. The basic Odin fight isn't near as complicated.
This is how the basic full might fight against Odin functions. I keep getting comments on my videos asking why he never uses Zantetsuken against me so clearly some folks are having trouble with him. You probably didn't have that trouble because your playstyle was aggressive enough to keep his mood in check.
Use cloud, yuffie, and tifa. Literally just bum rush him. Once one character does and ability switch to the next and use another ability. Rinse and repeat. Doing this gives him no time to breathe.
You need to get him to half health before he uses his ultimate attack keep using debuffs on him His other attacks don’t do to much damage so just avoid as much as possible build your limit and summon bahumit When he’s using his ultimate have revival earning on all your limits should be maxed out that should either kill or stagger him then just finish from there That’s how it worked for me 😅
best bet is to use yuffie and dodge like crazy and attack with doppleganger and blindside from a distance. when the other 2 have atb make them use strong magic spells for damage
Absolutely ripped through him with Red, Yuffie, and Tifa once I learned how the mood gauge works because of your video. Normally my go to party for boss stomping is Cloud, Aerith, and Barret but that’s built around survival and for Odin you just need to keep pummeling him.
Holy shit. I’m not sure I even understood the video, but I just picked Tifa, Red XIII, and Yuffie because of your comment and absolutely shredded him on the first try! Thanks
It's hard to say for sure since I cannot look at the code or anything like that. It's all based on my experimentation. I feel like a regular block will still lower the gauge because you take damage. A perfect block doesn't lower the gauge, it might even boost it a tiny bit but perfect blocks on their own are not enough to keep the gauge from emptying.
I think you’ve gone too far with the mood gauge concept. To me it’s way simpler that you have to pressure him to prevent from gathering power for an ultimate attack. I’ve done him on the easiest might level after 5-7 restarts for sure. Double summons fights for prototelic seems impossible at the beginning of chapter 13 now. Also I’m surprised how well you do perfect blocks. I struggle with timing a lot.
No i'm pretty sure I'm right. Zantetsuken happens pretty fast if you take a lot of damage. You can delay it a while without pressuring him if you deal specific amounts of damage. I don't see why the idea of a gauge that goes up and down is outlandish. Games use those for hidden or visible mechanics all the time. The Assess basically states that it works like that even if it's cryptic in its wording.
Disagree. This kind of puzzle boss fight is great at forcing players to get out of their comfort zone and try new strategies. What is a "better way to increase difficulty" anyway? Final fantasy has always had a lot of puzzle bosses all the way back to the SNES. Probably even the NES but I'm not too familiar with the first 3 games. Once you puzzle out how these mechanics function, you can clear the fight very consistently. There's nothing arbitrary in this fight other than your unwillingness to engage with the systems and that sounds like a skill issue to me.
I don't mind a few, but it's been non-stop since I got to the end game. It's definitely not a skill issue. I've been playing games for nearly 40 years games these days are pretty much a joke. This fight just introduces mechanics that aren't really explained like the hidden mood meter and how you have to run and dodge to dodge his attacks instead of just dodging like you've been doing for the last 80 hours of gameplay.
@@TheSeeker225 I figured them out on my own. I dunno. Have you considered trial and error? Learning pattern recognition? These seem like useful skills to practice.
I'm so sick of this game and it's stupid instakill attacks, just the most annoying braindead way to manufacture challenge, without doing anything interesting.
Most, will attempt to Beating them to get special items... But if you managed to beat them... Then you're probably never need the special items in the first place... So I failed to see the point... The general mechanic explanation about how status effect and poise works are exactly what I needed for part 3.

I've got platinum trophy, yet I never knew some of the technicalities you explained (like the yellow border on the status). Great video

I went through 3-4 videos before I found yours. Great high quality guide and fantastic edits 👍
Great guide with actual explanation of the mechanics instead of just saying ‘cast debrave and use atb commands to win!’ Thank you!
Amazing analysis. Quality breakdown of the fight 👍👍
Guide was helpful af n your voice was satisfying, thank you
Properly the best guide of all time
Never understood repraisal. Thank you
Thanks for guide bro. Much appreciated!
This is awesome! I've already beaten the game. Haven't done anything in hard mode yet or gone for platinum but this is literally, platinum information
What a great video. Well explained. Cheers
Thx this video helped me beat him the 2nd time at full power after watching this

Very informative, i never understood the handcuffs. I thought it was like challenging that character lol

I'm feeling both prepared and nervous for my first encounter with My Little Sleipner: Friendship is Magic 😅 Thanks for all the tips 😎
If you’re close to him with handcuffs during the second half of the fight he can interrupt two atb spells with reprisal. You need to have some space between you before you cast to avoid being interrupted
I wish I would've seen this a long time ago. I brute forced my way through Odin and especially the Odin Alexander fight and was VERY frustrated

Just finished "Bonds of Friendship" and didn't really understand how he worked. I woulda saved myself a lot of trouble/ time watching this first.
THANK YOU!!!!

30 seconds into my fight, without being hit more than 2 times, he's using his Zetzuken ability on me. This is bS

I cursed my tv out 20x before I finally beat him. I got closer to killing him on my 1st try than all the others for some reason
The mood gauge at the beginning, is that from that FMV game MODE?
:)
Use cloud, yuffie, and tifa. Literally just bum rush him. Once one character does and ability switch to the next and use another ability. Rinse and repeat. Doing this gives him no time to breathe.
Nope.
You have to hit him to use abilities.
Hitting him just triggers his one kill move.
The combat in this game is so techical and complex it's insane and i love it. I love final fantasy 16 but the combat is no where near 7

Once you beat Odín and Alexander together, you know this fight Is Easy as hell compared to that one, and i did it on lvl 50😊
Bond of friendship Odin Spatial Distortion always keeps me separated from zack. Stupid challenge
Does perfect block affect the mood gauge like a regular block.
It's hard to say for sure since I cannot look at the code or anything like that. It's all based on my experimentation. I feel like a regular block will still lower the gauge because you take damage. if only it was this easy lol
